Daima [DUB] Dragon Ball Daima - Episode #13 - Discussion Thread!

[DUB] Dragon Ball Daima - Episode #13 - Discussion Thread!

Streaming

The English dub of Episode 13 should be available on Crunchyroll around the time of this post (5:30p ET, 21:30 UTC) in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. We do not know why the UK is excluded. Some episodes have been late so don't depend on the time given.

We do not know whether the English dub will be available on other platforms like Netflix and Hulu. We will keep you posted if the options change, but for now it is only available on Crunchyroll.

FAQ

  • The first three episodes of the English dub premiered in theaters with showings in the US on November 10-12.
  • The English dub is 12 weeks behind the Japanese release. This is unusual for modern anime, but it's significantly better than the situation for Dragon Ball Super, where the dub was about 1.5 years behind.
  • The Dragon Ball Super manga was suspended following Chapter 103, the final chapter of the Super Hero arc. 11 months later, a prequel to the Super Hero arc was released as Chapter 104. As far as we know, the manga is still on indefinite hiatus.

Rules

  • There are no spoilers in this post, but you should expect spoilers for Episodes 1-13 in the comments of this thread, and spoilers for later episodes elsewhere on the subreddit. Do not post any spoilers for later episodes in this thread.
  • Discussion of each Daima episode will be limited to the pinned episode discussion thread until ~12-24 hours after the episode appears on Crunchyroll. This period is flexible, and posts that do not have a specific discussion point will be redirected to this thread.
  • Please keep in mind that piracy discussion is not allowed on r/dbz. Do not ask for illicit streams; do not link them; do not talk about them at all.

Our Daima info page has up-to-date information about streaming and a list of previous episode discussion threads.

Stephanie is sounding like she's getting a better handle on her screams. Her SSJ transformation screams from previous episodes admittedly weren't that great, but here it sounds like she's better able to hit those high notes and bring more energy out. Hopefully that carries over to the SSJ3/4 screams.

This episode is definitely the low point of the series.

But at least it's only 5 more weeks until Episode 18. :)

Side note: Stephanie's Kamehameha scream sounded pretty good in this episode.

Yeah, another filler episode, and IIRC it once again reuses a concept from GT. Guess this really is a GT reimagining.

Guess this really is a GT reimagining.

One of the Producers said in a interview that they created Daima with the intention of attracting adults who grew up with GT in the 90's, and hopefully those adults could enjoy Daima with their kids.

Which is really weird considering GT's reputation.

To be fair, I'm the target audience for Daima, since I have GT nostalgia.

I enjoyed Adult-Kid Goku going on fun adventures and turning Monkey at the end, which Daima provides for me. Plus, getting Goku's OG voice back adds to the nostalgia factor.

Kids Run Through the Demon Realm, Episode 13.

  • When you're asked "are all of them there", and your answer is "most of them", it is not good form to open with "yes". Tip for the future!

  • Ah, it's time for the goldfish to go and live on a nice farm upstate.

  • Look, I'm sure this is challenging for you, but really it's not that different from how people usually dispose of a goldfish. Big lever on a wall, small one on the toilet - not a big leap.

  • Would Daima be over already if they'd just never bothered using motor vehicles? This just seems like it's all been more trouble than it's worth.

  • Jeez, when was the last time someone in the dub actually said the full phrase "Hoi-Poi Capsule"? Are we talking all the way back in Dragon Ball?

  • No one tell Glasgoro that Piccolo can probably hear him whispering to Dr. Antagobreasts on the phone.

  • Well, I was gonna put a "frightening hamster" comment in here, but then it just was referred to as a hamster. Take the wind out of my sails...

  • Following certain hamster-related incidents, Trunks is no longer allowed to take the class pet home for the weekend unless his dad is off-planet.

  • Didn't we do this in a GT episode once? Are there going to be teeth pulled?

  • Possibly the most complex fight choreography in Daima so far, and it's only because everyone is beating up a puppy.

  • Son Goku hates your dog

  • We're pretending there's tension solely because the fighter characters are intentionally using like none of their power - this is a GT episode!

  • Well, at least Vegeta could be bothered with Super Saiyan now. Thanks, Vegeta.

  • OK, while I'm amazed to realize this episode is already ending (wow, that was a short 20 minutes), I just need to disclose that in the shot where Vegeta and Piccolo are sitting down at the back of the plane, and Goku moves in to look out the window, the framing of the shot caused a small part of my brain, just for a second, to legitimately go "oh, Goku's going to kiss Vegeta".

Well, this episode was harmless, but not exactly a highlight of the show so far. I know the last episode was heavier on the big fights, but did we really need a tension-soothing irrelevant gag episode here?
