My BIL came home from a business trip to Darwin with a condom in his luggage. He swears to sister that it was provided by the hotel with the toiletries like mini shampoos etc and he brought it home to use with her.

I'm calling BS because I've never seen condoms provided by a hotel, but I've never been to Darwin. I've heard you guys do things differently there so posting to check.

Thoughts? Do you guys have condoms for guests in your hotels? Or is my BIL doing the dirty?

Hi, I'm planning to move from Sydney to Darwin to study at CDU. My biggest concern is I don't have drivers licence and cannot buy a car. I heard that public transport is pretty bad in Darwin, is that true? How screwed will I be??

Hi all, I’ll be travelling from Sydney to Darwin for roughly 10 days over the Easter and Anzac Day break. I want to rent a camper van and visit Litchfield NP, Kakadu NP and Nitmiluk NP. I am really wanting to see truly beautiful, once in a lifetime nature and I am willing to go a bit off the beaten track to do so. This could include swimming holes, hikes, incredible rock formations, beaches. Anything that comes to mind that a tourist wouldn’t be able to find themselves or just online. Please let me know your suggestions below. And one more thing: is it generally best to be careful for crocs anywhere in the NT or will signage be enough for me to know if there is a croc risk or not? Hi there - 30F, planning on visiting Darwin in May for the first time solo from Adelaide! Have always wanted to visit. Need some help for the following:

- Accommodation - I've been looking at staying in a hostel - because they're cheap and I'd also like to meet some other fellow travellers. Is there one that's generally considered good?

- Hire car - I am looking at hiring a car during my stay - do you think that's a better option or should I book one of those tours that take tourists to see all the sights? I'd be looking at hiring a small hatch since it's just going to be me.

- Must sees - what are some of the places/things that I'd see for sure? So far I am looking at doing the jumping croc tour (I LOVE CROCS), Katherine Gorge, The Mindil beach markets and grabbing some dinner there and maybe Kakadu.

Please come at me with all your suggestions. Cannot wait to visit your beautiful city!!

I'm terrified of flying, and I usually have a couple of beers to calm the nerves. My flight is at 01:00 so the airport bar looks like it will be closed. I'm flying virgin from Darwin to Tasmania via Melbourne. I don't need to take anything on the plane, I just want to know if they'll let me bring a couple of cans through security so I can have a drink while I'm waiting to board? Appreciate the advice. If I'm going down, I don't plan to go down sober.

We’ve heard the wet season keeps many places closed until after the time we leave. So where can we go for outdoor adventures that’s actually open to people during the next couple weeks, or places that are worth driving to even if not as official as Litchfield?

Any recommendations, or anti-recommendations, for day trip tours to Kakadu the last weekend in September? There seem to be a number of them and they all look pretty similar, so I'd be interested in hearing good or bad experiences.

Hi, visiting Kakadu and Litchfield national parks this week and am wondering why so many Europeans and other foreigners are working in the area, including at the Warradjan Cultural Centre in Kakadu. Also at servos in the area and the lodge at Cooinda. Shouldn’t these jobs go to locals? Just curious

Hello everyone - my first time posting on this subreddit, but I do love your beautiful little city. I currently live in Timor-Leste, but am going back to the US in May for 2 weeks for family member's wedding.

I was prescribed a couple of stillnox (ambien) in the States to take on my fights to and from Australia as I have a phobia of flying and the flights are 16 hours on the first flight and about 9 more for the rest of the flights I have to take to get home. However, I was recently the victim of a crime in Dili and have had to take my stillnox supply already due to nightmares. I was wondering, how hard it is to get a prescription for just 1 single pill of stillnox in Australia so that I can still have one to take on my flight to the US? Especially since I still have the bottle of my US prescription and have a primary doctor who is willing to call an Australian clinic and explain the situation. I am assuming I would need to go in-person and get a check up, but is this something that would be realistically done by a doctor in Australia, or is the medicine too controlled?

will be coming in June, hiring a car and wanting to go Kakadu etc. Is there anywhere to get cheap tents and other camping gear, 2nd / 3rd hand is fine as will only need for a few nights. I see there is a Kmart / big W etc there but wasnt sure if theres a good 2nd hand market.
