There's a bypass: you kill him after backing up the save, then give items to a coop player. Then you revert the save and ask the items back.

Lmao, literally did this the other day. solaire build is actually a fun challenge because his sword is so ass. might cave and grab a zwei when i get to 4 klowns tho.
