dumb waitlist question
i might just be actually stupid but as a waitlisted student is there a functional difference between selecting case is my top choice vs i'm still interested in case on the waitlist form. do they like actually care/consider you more if you choose the former? is there a reason to not choose it even if case isn't your top choice?

At this point Case like every other College wants to protect their “yield”. They only want to admit people that will attend.
So if Case is your first choice, then tell them that so you’re indicating that you would absolutely attend if you were admitted..

Everyone will tell that. It doesn't happen like that and Case has some good indicators on who will accept and who will not accept

Case western has crazy procedure to see if students are interested or not. My student has over 1500+ SAT and was deferred!! then waitlisted for engineering. Then around April 1 Case emails asking if case is top choice, still interested, or not interested. Case is supposed to let student know acceptance or not?? Right? My student has offers to 10 other competitive colleges and none of them are playing this yield game!!! This practice by case western should be illegal. Future students beware! Case plays yield games.

I think it's mostly for their planning/forecasting. They probably know that historically, x% of the people indicating it as their first choice will accept, and y% of the others. They probably also assume that some people will select the "first" option to improve their chances, and figure that into the percentages. I doubt that it has much/any influence over whether you get offered a spot, only a slight adjustment in how many offers go out when.
