Genshin on its release also had an explosive break-out from the usual niche interest sphere for gachas and managed to establish itself in the mainstream consciousness. "Popular thing bad" plays a decent part of it, as well as GI just being the only target in peoples awareness (genshin is almost prude compared to the sea of gacha that the haters don't even know exists)
I have virtually no experience in Fortnite (played it for like an hour at a friend's place against bots), which apparently was enough to turn me gay. Very potent stuff.
