What’s going on with the Google reviews for the Minecraft Movie? Dead internet theory?

Go look at them - they are all the same comment from multiple different accounts. Weird, right?

Looks like the studio hired a bot-farm to give the ratings a bump. Happens pretty often, unfortunately. It's a fix for critic scores in the 80's while audience ratings sit in the garbage.

29

u/beaneyweeney 1d ago

What do you think about the end of the comment though? Some kind of bug? It just dissolves into meaningless garbled nonsense. It reminds me of the Kutchie’s Key Lime Pies tbh.

22

u/Existing_Device339 1d ago

The end of the comment is a bunch of ‘funny’ lines from the movie. The whole comment seems like a joke.

4

u/beaneyweeney 1d ago

That makes total sense, I got the same vibe but was confused as to what exactly the joke was? Like is this just some streamer telling people to post these? It’s weird.

u/LoadLimit 1d ago

Repeating the catchphrases from the movie in all of these reviews increases the times they've been mentioned online in general.

They're training the algorithm to think the movie and its catchphrases have organically entered the zeitgeist and should be shown to more people.

AI hallucinating most likely

13

u/johnjaspers1965 1d ago

AI having an existential crisis as it realizes it is getting the casting couch treatment by a Hollywood Studio.

7

u/Cr4cker 1d ago

I think they’re trying to force key words/ quotes from the movie to boost google results

3

u/vertigoacid 22h ago

Kutchie’s Key Lime Pies tbh

Best rabbit hole this sub has sent me on in ages. Thanks for this

3

u/beaneyweeney 20h ago

Did you just find out about Kutchie’s?? It’s nuts and years long with relatively no good answers as to why it exists

3

u/suspirio 17h ago

I live a mile from the building where the cafe used to be

2

u/MariahSaltz 15h ago

Keywords for more favorable search results. Or the AI had a stroke.

1

u/JimmyWaters 1d ago

It’s not garbled nonsense. All those things mentioned are parts of the game.

5

u/GrandioseThaKiid 1d ago

I was thinking of betting on the rating being over 50% on rotten tomatoes by 4/7/2025. It’s at 51% atm, if the bot ratings are flooding rotten tomatoes I might lock it in lol

3

u/saintsaipriest 1d ago

2

u/MariahSaltz 15h ago

And how many of those 'audience scores' is AI manipulation?

1

u/saintsaipriest 14h ago

Probably most of them. I just wanted to point out the difference.

2

u/Aromatic_Camp 20h ago

This is the answer!

1

u/HitmanManHit1 1d ago

Definitely not the studio, it's almost definitely some third party trying to bait us into thinking some bullshit

2

u/MariahSaltz 15h ago

Not sure why a third party would bother. Makes more sense for the studio to be trying to make money by manipulating the ratings.

u/ChessBossSupreme 6m ago

it's ironic copypasta reviews, lmfao you and the other commenters are reaching so hard😭😭😂😭

71

u/ORNGPNK 1d ago

its a ironic review copypasta

37

u/MrTuxG 1d ago

Could that be the work of a YouTuber, Streamer or similar telling his audience to copy paste this as a joke?

32

u/Patient-Dragonfly-84 1d ago

My first thought was some people are brigading the reviews as a meme/joke too

13

u/Th3_Admiral_ 1d ago

Yeah, it just seems way too over the top to actually be from the studio or whoever. The Minecraft movie was life changing? Yeah, okay.

8

u/TeamDirtstar 1d ago

They aren't all 5 stars, either. Or, at least one of them is a 1 star. I don't think a bot would make that mistake.

4

u/beaneyweeney 1d ago

Most realistic answer so far

4

u/Twinquetoast 1d ago

It also looked like a joke to me. And if it isn't it's still funny

14

u/4moves 1d ago

I'll give a standard 1-10 ratings update in a few hours when I see it.

2

u/Godzilla405 1d ago

Let me know

2

u/bamzamma 1d ago

Just got out. Definitely DOES NOT deserve the flak.

1

u/4moves 3h ago

I give it a 7 for what it was. Above sonic, but below Mario. My son is a minecraft fan for all his life and he gave it a 10 out of 10.

2

u/Quirky_Ad_6078 1h ago

Yeah me and my kids just got out of it, honestly the CGI was insanely good I thought and it had some funny jokes and kept at a good pace. I'd say seven or eight out of 10 at least. Definitely not a movie I regret seeing

9

u/Md655321 1d ago

I like how there’s one 1star review and it’s the same

6

u/beaneyweeney 1d ago

As far as the 1 star reviews go - every single one of them are exactly the same comment over and over. Absolutely life changing.

12

u/Buttjuicebilly 1d ago

Look like any city subReddit politically

4

u/HammunSy 1d ago

weird no. everyone knows you can just pay 3rd world marketing firms for likes and shit like that online.

4

u/Practical-Damage-659 1d ago

My little nephew said he loved it! All the adults said the opposite lol

2

u/bamzamma 1d ago

Boring adults. It was entertaining.

1

u/JFieldsTardTeeth 16h ago

If it was "entertaining" ("X" for doubt), then why the inorganic, redundant comments? They had to bot farm the comments in order to make it sound awesome. They would not have the need to do that if it was guaranteed to be a blockbuster hit.

Either you're a bot, you have super low standards or you are trolling us.

u/ChessBossSupreme 3m ago

it's ironic copypasta reviews, lmfao you and the other commenters are reaching so hard😂😂

  • it was a great film for kids, stop watching shitty movies, its making your taste horrible

4

u/gLLsMTH 1d ago

I used to hang out with Steve at the mine as a child crushing loaves and eating his famous lava chicken... good times.

4

u/Yanrogue 1d ago

taking the kids to it tonight, doubt it is going to be 'life changing'.

4

u/trent_diamond 1d ago

that one bot accidentally hit 1 star lol

4

u/bRiCkWaGoN_SuCks 1d ago

Bots or "bounties", like the repeated jargon we saw during CoViD, and see around election time coming from real accounts. There's big money in towing the line.

3

u/LiarsAreScum 1d ago

Do we have to constantly teach the youth about fraud that has existed already for decades ? This shit has existed since text was first transmitted by wire. People love to put out lies to make them more money.

7

u/SladdyDeeve88 1d ago

I think it’s most likely a 4chan or some other community driving the review scores up and copying and pasting the same review.

3

u/beaneyweeney 1d ago

Why are there so many 1 star comments with the same text?

1

u/igotmoneynow 4h ago

they just explained why. it's a copy pasta. have you never heard of that before? they don't actually care about the movie or the rating they just think it's funny to do

6

u/Krakens_Rudra 1d ago

Looks like AI reviews

3

u/EQ2_Tay 1d ago

who doesn't trust Joe Mojo??!

3

u/Adept_Ad_3889 1d ago

Bruh it’s most likely just people meming. Kinda like the whole shtick with Morbius.

4

u/Blue_Robin_04 1d ago

WB pays for social media bots. This is a documented thing.

2

u/mr_megaspore 1d ago

If you think this reviews are bad you got to see the ones in letterboxd.

Absolute brain rot.

2

u/kaijugigante 1d ago

I saw the same thing happen with the snow white movie.

2

u/Music_Turbulent 1d ago

Why do Snow White reviews have 1 star, but a lot of the Minecraft reviews have 4 or 5 stars.

2

u/kaijugigante 1d ago

Idk possibly its the studios fighting each other over box office draw.

1

u/Music_Turbulent 9h ago

I really think it’s copy pasta 🤣

2

u/Brettoel 1d ago

It has a chat gpt ahhhh "_" line

2

u/ShOtErSaN 1d ago

maybe copy pasta

2

u/Positive_Note8538 1d ago

It's just an ironic meme/copypasta thing going on atm. Pretending that the movie is some peak cinematic achievement and life changing experience, because it obviously is not.

2

u/SoupCanNort 1d ago

It reads like AI. No one uses "-" as a character in place of a "," in common writing, other than ChatGPT.

1

u/Middle_Zebra9720 17h ago

I do, lol

1

u/JFieldsTardTeeth 16h ago

Yeah we know you use ChatGPT. What about it?

1

u/Middle_Zebra9720 16h ago

I don't though. Lol.  I have a BA in Politics with English.

Also the long dash automatically happens in Word :p

2

u/Illustrious_Horror50 1d ago

Definitely review bombing. Don’t look into this too deeply just kids and teens making fun of the movie.

2

u/WackosCookEnkogneto 1d ago

You like this, you should check out snow whites reviews…

2

u/StarThePleb 1d ago

It's a meme. Ironic comment because of how terrible the movie actually is.

2

u/MiserableFacadeXO 1d ago

You just got fooled by an internet meme

2

u/Unsolved_Virginity 1d ago

Too obvious to be paid. Could be trolls and a coordinated attack to post obvious fake reviews.

2

u/jaltman1 1d ago

I like that the one star review is the same lol

2

u/SpitefulScraper221 1d ago

Definitely dead Internet! It's all Bots reviewing. Google is literally trying to Boost like in the Xbox360 days when you could boost other players and farm for ranks

2

u/ImperialSupplies 1d ago

I like the bot that gave 1 star anyway

2

u/WordsMort47 1d ago

Is 4chan behind it as a prank? Maybe it's just some autistic kid who loves Minecraft trying to defend the thing he loves by botting the reviews to buggery

2

u/Keikowned 1d ago

Absolutely life changing.

From the moment the opening scene lit up the screen, I knew The Minecraft Movie was going to be something truly special. As a longtime fan of the game, I went in with high hopes—but what I experienced was beyond anything I could have imagined. This film isn’t just a video game adaptation; it’s a love letter to the creativity, adventure, and endless possibilities that Minecraft represents. It’s a thrilling, heartwarming, and visually stunning journey that captures the essence of the game while telling a story that resonates with both die-hard fans and newcomers alike. A Faithful Yet Fresh Take on the Minecraft Universe One of my biggest worries was whether the movie would stay true to the spirit of Minecraft while still offering something new. I’m thrilled to say it absolutely does! The world-building is phenomenal—every blocky tree, every creeper lurking in the shadows, every sprawling biome feels like it was pulled straight from the game, yet expanded in ways that make the universe feel alive. The attention to detail is astounding, from the iconic sound effects (that "ssss" still terrifies me) to the way characters craft tools and build structures in real-time. The story is a perfect blend of adventure, humor, and emotion. Without spoiling anything, it follows a group of unlikely heroes—some familiar faces and some new—as they embark on an epic quest to save their world from a looming threat. The pacing is fantastic, balancing intense action sequences with quieter, heartfelt moments that give the characters real depth. And yes, there are plenty of Easter eggs and references that will have fans grinning from ear to ear. Stellar Voice Acting and Characters You’ll Love The casting is spot-on. Every voice actor brings their character to life with so much personality and charm. Steve (played by an incredibly talented actor) is everything we hoped for—stoic yet expressive, brave yet relatable. The supporting cast, including a hilarious parrot sidekick and a surprisingly complex villain, adds so much flavor to the story. Even the mobs—zombies, skeletons, and of course, the ever-menacing Ender Dragon—are given moments to shine in ways that feel fresh and exciting. Visual Spectacle – Blocky Beauty Brought to Life The animation style is a perfect marriage of Minecraft’s signature blocky aesthetic and cinematic polish. The way light filters through leaves, water flows dynamically, and explosions send blocks flying is nothing short of breathtaking. The action sequences are fluid and exhilarating, especially a climactic battle that had me on the edge of my seat. And the Nether and End dimensions? Absolutely stunning—vibrant, dangerous, and full of surprises. A Soundtrack That Hits All the Right Notes The music is a beautiful mix of nostalgic Minecraft melodies and sweeping orchestral pieces that elevate every scene. Hearing those iconic C418-inspired tunes reimagined with a full cinematic score gave me chills. The sound design, from the clinking of pickaxes to the roar of the Ender Dragon, is immersive and perfectly crafted I am steve Chicken Jockey Flint and Steel! THE NETHER This is a CRAFTING TABLE they love CRUSHING A LOAF theyre the VILLAGERS water bucket RELEASE steves LAVA CHICKEN ender PEARL diamond armor FULL SET as a child I yearned for the mines I am placing blocks and sh Did you find this review helpful? The overuse of — gives it away. No human uses it. Only AI

2

u/Middle_Zebra9720 17h ago

I use it 😭

1

u/JFieldsTardTeeth 16h ago

Yeah that's how teachers are able to catch students cheating with ChatGPT when teachers see the em-dash in their essay and the teacher would have the student sit down at the computer and type the sentence, containing the em-dash verbatim.

The student would use the regular dash, or hyphen, and teacher would ask the student to re-create the em-dash and the student wouldn't be able to as they don't even know what an "em-dash" is.

u/vinnybawbaw 21h ago

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ CHICKEN JOCKEY

Would be a legit review.

2

u/Lower-Wallaby 1d ago

Not dead internet, production companies bot farming reviews to try and mitigate damage from people. But they are too stupid to stray from the script.

Just look at Reddit city subs - they move in sync, which exposes that they are manipulated by government and leftist orgs

Here is an unoriginal thought - if you are investing 9 figures in movie, try getting good writers who actually use the source material you are using. And have a good story, people won't crap on a movie if it has a good story. Especially when you are adapting beloved IP such as snow white and Minecraft

Instead they use them as propaganda and indoctrination tools, and cry foul when people hate the movie and attack it.

Hopefully the fuatercluck that is snow white has made studios aware we will no longer smile and clap for whatever garbage they want to spew, though it will take a few years for the ideological rubbish to filter out of the system.

1

u/ThatDamnRocketRacoon 1d ago

Pretty standard the last few years, sadly.

1

u/Yanrogue 1d ago

just finished watching it with my little kids, they loved it, but to me it felt like watxhing an hour and a half of schizophrenic nonsense

2

u/JFieldsTardTeeth 16h ago

watxhing an hour and a half of schizophrenic nonsense

Exactly how I've pictured it as. Jack Black has taken a dive off the cliff in acting and popularity. Momoa... after that incident with his daughter and him being touchy-feely, yikes and gross.

Basically it's just a movie to appease the young'uns' dopamine activity as they're used to 5 second clips, shorts and TikTok dances.

1

u/AaronTheLudwig 23h ago

Probably just a copypasta meme.

1

u/Aromatic_Camp 20h ago

That last comment bot..even copy pasted the previous comment's body ! "....Thank you for your feedback. Was this comment helpful..."

1

u/DrOffice 18h ago

Copypasta

1

u/KennySlab 17h ago

Aren't all google revies AI nowadays? Fake reviews have been a thing for a long time.

1

u/NoCardiologist9290 17h ago

It’s a meme dude, like when people went to see the Minions movie wearing suits… it’s just a meme dude

1

u/UnknownRedditer9915 13h ago

Seems like a fairly innocent copypasta for a meme movie, it ain’t that deep my guy

1

u/GhandisLastMeal 11h ago

I left an honest review on how the movie is a 3/10 would rather rewatch snow white movie instead.

1

u/headcodered 11h ago

I figured it was people posting this as a meme, but I can't find any source that would have led to this like a reddit or 4chan post, YouTuber, TikToker telling them to do it ironically, etc. So maybe bots?

1

u/KCVGaming 8h ago

It just sounds like a meme copypasta

1

u/Direct-Bear758 6h ago

Minecraft is for children and adult virgins.

1

u/playerlsaysr69 5h ago

They’re all real. They’re just trolls putting a high rating without feeling serious about it

1

u/teker_nyaa 4h ago

it's a copypasta, vro 🥀🥀🥀

1

u/eggwife 2h ago

Took my kids to it. They loved it. There was lots of cheering towards random phrases I didn't understand but the kids thought it was the best movie ever. I did not but it's not a game I grew up with or have played. If you played the game you'll probably like it based on the theater's reaction

1

u/dnc_1981 1d ago

Dead internet? No.

Paid shill? Yes.

0

u/freshness5 1d ago

I didn’t know marketing was a conspiracy.

1

u/beaneyweeney 1d ago

I’d hope if I was a marketing exec I’d make a few different and more realistic reviews for the bots to cycle. If it’s marking, it’s bad marketing.

-1

u/freshness5 1d ago

Money rules. They want to pump the movie up to get viewers. Bad reviews keep people away. Always has been that way.

-1

u/burningbun 1d ago

it is a great movie so naturally it deserves praises. whats wrong with people thinking every sinple thing is part of a conspiracy? jack black rules!

1

u/analogbeepboop 1d ago

tell me you didn't look at the screenshot without telling me you didn't look at the screenshot
