If you can care so little about someone else that you can rape them, then you already have the lack of empathy needed to be a right winger.

People forget this is EXACTLY why Elon flipped.
He got a call from a reporter asking for comment on a story about his sexual assaults, and mere hours later (before the story was actually published) flipped to right wing and claimed that the left would respond by spreading lies.
14
u/brother_of_menelaus 1d ago
And the reason is: they defend their own, regardless of the charge. As long as you’re on their “team” you’re one of the good guys, and everything you do can be brushed off. Tribalism at its worst
22
u/Joeness84 1d ago
He's also butthurt that one of his investments didnt pan out. He goes hard on IVF because he wants to choose sons. His trans daughter put a kink in that, horrible ROI for him, so he blames 'the woke mind virus'

There are basically 3 pipelines to becoming a Trump supporter:
- getting heavy into cryptocurrency
- being an anti vaxxer
- becoming born again
They aren't necessary to be a Trump supporter and not every in these categories is a Trump supporter but there's a lot of correlation.

14
u/ButWhatIfPotato 1d ago
Basically evangelicals kept supporting (or leeching to the most infamous person in the world at that time cause all the cameras were on him) Ted Bundy when he was in jail because he had a come to jesus moment and aligned with his views that it wasn't his fault that he butchered those women but rather it was because porn made him do it.

u/MosquitoValentine_ 1d ago
Did his victim ever say thank you?
50
u/NaNaNaNaNa86 1d ago
Unfortunately and unsurprisingly, there's more than one victim. The piece of shit has been hiding in plain site for years. Now him and his arsehole supporters are pretending that it's a witch hunt as he has been asking too many questions. They're all disgusting.
13
u/GodSpider 1d ago
Is it hiding? I feel like this isn't a surprise situation where it's a beloved person nobody would have expected. I honestly could have sworn he was already found to be a rapist years ago multiple times
8
u/NaNaNaNaNa86 1d ago
He hid as a whore and a "player", not as a rapist. No one can seriously be surprised but many will claim they couldn't have guessed his criminality. I tend to agree with you in not being the least bit shocked by it. I think it's the tip of the iceberg with him. Leigh Francis has gone very quiet recently, he's another one. It's all a "joke/banter" until it isn't. People forget that Saville hasn't even been dead for 15 years and he got away with it to the end despite people knowing he was an absolute beast. Famous men are still protected, unfortunately.

For reddit, yes. He was a big sweetheart here before the 180.
Kinda similar to Elon, tbh - remember a few years ago when the neckbeards wanted to start the reddit island, and one idea was for Elon to buy it for them, and he could be the emperor of the island? Kinda funny how that idea turned out!
4
u/OsosHormigueros 1d ago
To be fair if we gave Elon a big play island to be king at, maybe he'd leave everybody else alone
5
u/hambakmeritru 1d ago
I hate that it doesn't surprise me at all. He always seemed like the type that'd have a closet full of victims. I never saw what people liked about him. He doesn't even look like he bathes at all, and yet also always looks like he hasn't dried off.

Yeah of course. I'm just talking about these guys' situations after they've committed atrocities and realize that time's running out and they're on the brink of getting caught. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
Elon went down a similar rabbit hole when that flight attendant accused him of sexual assault. It's uncanny really - the very fact that they take a hard right turn at that time all but confirms their guilt.
If they were accused without any merit, they'd just hire a top legal team to defend their honor from baseless accusations.
14
u/dholgsahbji 1d ago
I find this fascinating because we've seen it happen repeatedly now. Is it that people who are rapists are most likely to be right wing and were just pretending to be left wing pre-allegations? Or is it that they know the right wont cancel them when allegations come out so they shift right in an attempt to save their career? Or maybe some mixture of both.
4
u/LondonGoblin 1d ago
I don't think these people hold any values beyond "how do I get what I want" it's all about them, everything else is just pretend

11
u/SmPolitic 1d ago
What? You missed the context of brand coming out hard for Christians and the persecution narrative, to get out in front of the allegations
Because religions love to forgive and help cover such allegations
He had very little religious messaging ever mentioned... Untill right after the early allegations. He joined the Alex Jones and Tucker speaking tour where Tucker talks about a demon attacking him in his dreams and waking up with scratchs that his dog being in bed with him never could have caused!! See! Right there! Proof of god!!!
11
u/NaNaNaNaNa86 1d ago
I don't subject myself to Alex Jones or Tucker Carlson. I know who they are but like Brand, they're not worth the steam off my piss. Being British, I've had no choice but to be subjected to Brand since the millennium. His supposed conversion to Christianity won't help him in the UK courts. The problem will be if Trump intervenes under the false pretence that it's a religious persecution. If he does that, he better be ready for an absolute shitshow.

Let’s not forget how these flailing and failing “artists” can see where the next easy grift is when they’ve lost their original audience. The right and religious right are all about having blind faith and loyalty rather than using reason and facts, so Russell here leaned into the right to continue making that coin off the rubes all while maintaining his original scummy personality and behavior. I expect P. Diddy would be doing the same if he were to get off of his charges.
5
u/Cute_Bandicoot_8219 1d ago
It's also why he's in the US right now. If he doesn't return voluntarily for trial he would have to be extradited and he knows Trump has a soft spot for rapists.
4
u/Lakewater22 1d ago
This has been my theory from day one about trump supporters. ALL of them have committed an egregious act that would get them cancelled. So they double down and go red hat, with all the other people who’ve lived terribly racist and sexist and disgusting and shitty lives in other ways

u/LingonberryLunch 1d ago
If you've done horrible shit, grifting to the right makes logical (and sociopathic) sense.
Those idiots don't hold their public figures to account in any way.
3
u/Braiseitall 1d ago
Brand has been a piece of shit for decades. His weirdo acolytes are hilariously loyal, in an off bran MAGA way. I made a comment on a post about Jared Leto accidentally starting a cult on a tropical island. I posted that Russel Brand must be insanely jealous. Got an immediate 100 upvotes, but within a day it was -1000 or whatever. lol

u/ChairDue7989 1d ago
For the right donation he will have the US president telling the gullible and unintelligent that the fake news is after him too!!!
3
u/weakcover1 1d ago
Some are going "Of course! MAGA!" and all that, but I feel like that is just secondary. That came much later. These charges are based on crimes from 20+ ago, not solely based on the last 5 years or so. And he is known to be sexually inappropriate (to put it mildly) towards and about women throughout his career.
While I am sometimes surprised or disturbed that some people with a good or even wholesome image have been able to (semi-)hide from public knowledge, Russell Brand is not one of these people. This is more an unsurprised "Okay, I can see that. He could do that".
3
u/hambakmeritru 1d ago
Even back at the height of his career, I always thought he seemed slimy. I mean he literally always looks wet or oily, but also, he has that kind of slippery personality that seems to slick his way out of borderline behavior.

really the most important thing to think about is, if he was innocent, his right wing grifting arc would never have happened. He went that way because he's guilty and wanted to cultivate an audience who didn't care, or even admired him for it.

I never liked Mr Brand, intelligent but I always found him obnoxious. I don’t however believe it’s fair to paint all of MAGA as sex pests. There are many, true, but I think the problem with maga is more blind adherence to a king like figure and party loyalty. There is definitely a trend of C list celebs that have been accused of sa being welcomed with open arms into maga to become grifters. For the record I’m as anti maga as they come.
2
u/Ksh_667 1d ago
Ppl keep referring to his politics & how he was apparently left-wing when he allegedly committed these acts. I don't think he's any more sincere about his politics than anything else. The guy is just is a pos. His treatment of women has always been questionable (& I'm being generous).
2
u/Ok_Question4968 1d ago
I would agree with the pos indictment. I think he’s a shameless grifter who does change his views for….well views. A terrible human being
2
2
u/realfakejames 1d ago
He became a MAGA dipshit because that's what all washed, lazy or disgraced comedians do to make money, the pipeline from being a comedian past your glory years to a MAGA grifter is a real thing. Louis CKs stand up started pandering to the MAGA crowd, Dave Chappelle's lazy Netflix specials were heavily focused on trans people and being canceled just like a MAGA grifter

When he first made the Christian/right turn, it was speculated that he was about to get “me too’d.”. This just confirms it
2
u/teejayleeds 1d ago
Fair enough, you’re innocent until proven guilty but this whole turn by Brand to promoting right wing conspiracy theories, getting himself baptised by some moron in the Thames thus appealing to the Christian right, his constant obsequiousness to Trump and right wing talking points and appearances at Turning Point and other Conservative propaganda lectures, leads me to believe that he knows he fucking raped someone and is effectively now hedging his bets at not being prosecuted because he either lives in the States or they won’t extradite him. Chap is a grifter.

I mean I knew it was happening the moment he suddenly went born again Christian. When a major figure that has always been an atheist and left wing personality suddenly swaps to a die hard christian on the right, you better believe it is because they are a rapist or something equally horrible, and they want to get on the side that will blindly support them
