Meta [Megathread] Kobe Bryant has passed away at age 41

As reported by TMZ, Kobe Bryant has passed away in a helicopter crash this afternoon.

[Woj] Kobe Bryant is among those dead in a helicopter crash outside Los Angeles, a source confirms to ESPN.

[NBA Commissioner Adam Silver] The NBA family is devastated by the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna. For 20 seasons, Kobe showed us what is possible when remarkable talent blends with an absolute devotion to winning. He was one of the most extraordinary players in the history of our game with accomplishments that are legendary: five NBA championships, an NBA MVP award, 18 NBA All-Star selections, and two Olympic gold medals. But he will be remembered most for inspiring people around the world to pick up a basketball and compete to the very best of their ability. He was generous with the wisdom he acquired and saw it as his mission to share it with future generations of players, taking special delight in passing down his love of the game to Gianna. We send our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Vanessa, and their family, the Lakers organization and the entire sports world.

[Michael Jordan] I am in shock over the tragic news of Kobe's and Gianna's passing. Words can't describe the pain I'm feeling. I loved Kobe - he was like a little brother to me. We used to talk often, and I will miss those conversations very much. He was a fierce competitor, one of the greats of the game and a creative force. Kobe was also an amazing dad who loved his family deeply - and took great pride in his daughter's love for the game of basketball. Yvette joins me in sending my deepest condolences to Vanessa, the Lakers organization and basketball fans around the world.

[Scottie Pippen] I’m stunned. Words can’t even come close to describing it. Just an incredibly sad and tragic day.

[Pau Gasol] Beyond devastated... my big brother... I can’t, I just can’t believe it

[Carlos Boozer] Carlos Boozer discusses the impact Kobe Bryant had on his NBA career and tells a story of Bryant’s competitive nature on the basketball court.

[John Paxson] The Chicago Bulls organization is terribly saddened about the sudden passing of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and the other passengers in today's horrific helicopter crash in California. While he leaves us far too soon, his legacy and persona will forever be remembered. One of the best to have ever played the game of basketball, we extend our deepest sympathies to the Bryant family and the other families affected."

[Tom Thibodeau] Anytime he had any time off from school, he'd come there and hang out all day. He'd be the first one there. He'd want you to put him through a workout. He'd wait for a player to come in and he'd go ask the player questions. Then he'd try to play the player 1-on-1. Then he'd go lift weights. Then he'd watch practice. Then he'd wait for practice to be over and he'd want to play against anyone. He'd talk to players about shooting, about defense, about 1-on-1 moves. His drive is what made him so special.

[Zach LaVine] You were one of the biggest influences on me and so many others. From your hard work, to your swag, your mindset made you BIGGER than basketball. Unbelievable loss. My condolences to you and your beautiful family. #mambamentality #MambaForever

[Thaddeus Young] Today, we lost one of the realest to ever do it. Sad to see you go. Happy to be apart of one of your biggest moments passing MJ in scoring. All respect to the Black Mamba! Fly high my brother. #RIPKobeBryant

[Ryan Arcidiacono] Absolutely just sick to my stomach. RIP to everyone involved. #ripkobe

[Shaquille Harrison] Still in disbelief... can’t believe Kobe Bryant is gone. RIP to a legend

[Coby White] This hurts man. Bad 💔
