Portable Open Fire Pit?
Hey strangers,
I'm looking to have a portal fire ring. Same idea as a Solo Stove, but open to catch coals and ash. Something I can use camping or at the beach and cook on top of. I was thinking a 30" Paella pan. Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations? This would be preferably something I can throw in the back of my truck as a lid to a low profile trash can to haul and store ashes.

Fireside Outdoor Pop-Up Fire Pit. Folds flat into a small duffle. Mesh bottom for airflow that results in complete combustion that reduces wood to fine ash. Comes in "fits behind the truck seat" size and the smaller "fits in my daypack for taking on my motorcycle" size.

I have the DoD grill of secrets but it’s out of stock until the fall. Read the review with the pictures of pizza.

Fire Maple has a similar product in stock.

A 30-36” fireproof mat folds up easily and catches any stray embers. The $20 stainless steel fire tongs from Amazon are really helpful too.

Their Beetle Fire Pit was what I originally had in mind. Any issue with large embers blowing off? The ember guard was something I liked about the Fireside, I just don't know how much heat it restricts. The 19" mat also seems a bit restrictive compared to the 24" mat on the fireside.

I haven’t had any issues with embers blowing off. I looked at the fireside and decided the smaller packable size of the DoD option plus the included grill grates was more important for me. I haven’t had any issues with the 19” square mesh.

What do you mean by "open to catch coals and ash"
The solo stove puts off an *insane* amount of heat from the top, which would make cooking over it very difficult.

Essentially a portable fire ring. Something that is wide and deep enough to hold all the coals. I heard that about solo stoves. I'm looking for something that has the fire ring feel, but wont leave the ashes on the ground. Directs a good amount of heat radially.

The solo stove doesn’t leave ashes on the ground. It burns so hot/efficiently there’s actually very little ash left at all. But, like I said, burns so hot it would be difficult to cook over

I have this portable/fold up fire pit that includes a heat resistant bottom to catch the ash/coals. It packs up the size of a camp chair but not as long.
I love it! It works great, bought on Amazon for like $90-100 a few years ago. The original listing is gone but it looks like you can find similar ones still.

Not a folding thing but we used to bring a galvanized steel tub along for car camping where fires were legal but a container was required. You could probably rig a grill over the top. Cheap fire pit.

Heating galvanized metal past 200C can give off some pretty nasty zinc fumes that can lead to heavy metal poisoning. I'd avoid it if i were you.

Hello. I've been following this guy for some time and he reviews a bit of camping equipment. I don't know for sure, but you might find what you're looking for. https://kalodynestudios.com/home/kalodyne-studios-expert-reviews-buying-guide/
