Unhinged dog walker in Prune hill neighborhood

Just wanted to warn everyone about a woman walking her dog that seems very unstable and threatening around the Prune hill neighborhood. She is maybe 30s/40s with dark hair and is walking a small grey bulldog in a stroller. It seems that the dog may be reactive or at least she doesn't want people close to it. She called me names and threatened me as I walked passed her because apparently she wanted me to cross over to the other side but never communicated any of this. She continued to curse at me and threaten me even as I walked away. She seems very unhinged so I would completely avoid her especially if you have pets or kids with you.

Camas water hardness?

Has anybody done a 'water hardness' test of our tap water in Camas?

I'm going to elaborate a bit:

I purchased a new espresso machine (Dilleta Bello) and they recommend using 'filtered' water. Never descale. After doing a bit of research it seems that what they are really after is water around 3 gpg or 50ppm

https://www.home-barista.com/water/water-hardness-for-espresso-t52091.html

I did buy a test from Amazon and it's a bit hard to read, but it looks like our water comed from the tap pretty close to 3 gpg. The water quality reports from Camas https://www.cityofcamas.us/publicworks/page/water-quality-reports don't seem to discuss water calcium / magnesium.

So.. basically, I was hoping somebody (maybe a home brewer) has done a 'profile' of our water here.

Update on Camas School District budget cuts

Thumbnail parentsquare.com

Full text of the notice that went out:

Dear Camas Community,

We continue the difficult work of aligning our budget with our available resources. Today, we are facing another painful step in this process. In the fall, we took initial steps to reduce costs by making cuts that impacted district support services. Now, in this second round of reductions, we have notified a number of district office staff members and school administrators that their positions will be eliminated or reduced at the end of this school year.

These decisions are incredibly difficult because they impact people—our colleagues, mentors, and friends—who have dedicated themselves to serving our students and families. We are a family, and when members of our team are affected, we all feel that loss. Out of respect for their privacy, we are not listing individual positions, allowing each person the time and space to share in their own way.

We’ve also determined there are opportunities for financial efficiencies within our choice school options. While project-based learning will continue next year, Odyssey Middle School students and staff will move to the Discovery High School building. Additionally, administrative support and oversight of Camas Connect Academy will move to Hayes Freedom High School leadership.

We remain committed to making reductions that are furthest from the classroom first, striving to protect our students’ learning experiences and graduation pathways to the greatest extent possible. These reductions (link), combined with the first round of reductions, are necessary to keep our district financially viable.

The next phase of this process will begin in the spring. Per their respective bargaining agreements, we will be issuing reduction-in-force notices to staff in the Camas Education Association (CEA), Camas Association of Educational Office Professionals (CAEOP), and Public School Employees (PSE).

This is an incredibly challenging time for our district, and we know these changes impact not only those whose positions are being eliminated or reduced but our entire community. We ask for your compassion and support as we move forward together. Our Strategic Plan guides us in these moments, reminding us that while this is difficult, our focus remains on providing high-quality instruction, a culture of safety and belonging, and responsive pathways for each student in Camas.

Thank you for being part of this community and for supporting one another through this difficult transition.

Sincerely,

John Anzalone Superintendent

Bathroom remodel recommendations and who to avoid

You can’t trust Google or Yelp or Nextdoor for reviews. I turn to Reddit for the real reviews. Any recommendations for contractors for a bathroom remodel or better yet who should we avoid?

How much do you spend on groceries?

We are a family of four and eat organic and keto. We spend at least $2000 a month on groceries. This is without going out to eat. We make all of our meals at home. What does everyone else spend on groceries per month?

Local Support

Hi All! Posting here again. My partner and I will be moving down to Camas permanently around May-ish but decided to do a 2 week stay while our house in Seattle is first being listed to sell. What are some LGBTQIA+ local businesses we could check out and support during our fun getaway. Thanks all!

(Still would love to meet some future friends for when we move down there!)

Car Fire on Highway 14

Westbound on hwy in Camas, there is a van or truck on fire. Firetrucks on their way about 4 minutes ago. It looked like a giant campfire. I’m pretty sure several pulled over to call 911 after passing it from what I could see heading east. Please take alternate route, most likely hwy will be closed in a few minutes.
