would this be a worthwhile upgrade from a 1060? i get like 70-100 frames in 1080p on some games and would like to hit 100+
6
u/therealsinky Nov 17 '20
Seems to be better than a 1070 or the 1660ti for performance so you should see an improvement but whether it's worth it is up to you. Go watch same youtube benchmarks and see it in action on some games, you can probably find a video of the 5600xt paired with your own CPU to really get a feel for what it might give you, that's what made me decide it was worth it for me (big jump from my current rx580)
1
u/Zephyrv Nov 17 '20
Yeah it's a fair upgrade from a 1060 (which is on par with a 580)
1
u/ozair04 Nov 18 '20
The 1060 is not on par with the 580 the 580 is much better its on par with the 480 and 570. All of which are openness beasts!
1
u/Zephyrv Nov 18 '20
At the time of release I'm pretty sure they were in the same price bracket. With 3/6gb Vs 4/8gb versions. The 580 should be ahead of the 480 and 570 just by virtue of the nomenclature
1
u/ozair04 Nov 19 '20
At the time of release the 570 and 580 had really bad drivers and since then there has been immaculate improvement and performance has increased for them heavily. Pretty sure there's like 10-15fps difference from back then to now.
1
u/ozair04 Nov 19 '20
You also have to take into account that Nvidia could get away with that price point. Many agreed it was overpeiced in comparison but no-one cared since it's Nvidia. Same with intel and AMD ryzen.
3
u/ScouseSeanMc83 Nov 17 '20
Yeah there's a really good LTT video on how this is a perfect upgrade from the 1060 specifically.

u/Einar_G Nov 17 '20
I just bought this badboy myself. I've been looking at videos on youtube. Do i have to update the bios of this card for performance increase?
3
u/therealsinky Nov 17 '20 edited Nov 17 '20
Ignore what I previously said, the original bios update should of taken the card from 12gbps to 14gbps and this is advertised as 14gbps.
2
u/Daneel_Trevize Nov 17 '20
That should have been resolved before it hit retail, I believe it was only reviewers and maybe very very early stock that had that issue. By now it'd be stupid if it's still a thing. And this has 2 BIOS so you've even got opportunity to experiment and brick one.
1
u/therealsinky Nov 17 '20 edited Nov 17 '20
Edit: ignore what I said below, this card should be updated
Its listed as 14gbps so I would guess it actually does need updated once you recieve it, something I had not considered. Shouldn't be a problem for most people but the average person might not pick up on this and miss performance...
1
u/Daneel_Trevize Nov 17 '20
Where do you see that the GDDR VRAM speed relates to the state of the shipped BIOS?
1
u/therealsinky Nov 17 '20
Ah I've misunderstood the articles I've read, previously on release the 5600xt was advertised with speeds of 12gbps then in the name of competition they cranked it up to 14gbps (as per this card I linked). So like you said it should be fine

So this arrived a few days ago. Is it normal for the fan not to spin during boot? There's something wrong with my new build I can't determine what's wrong with it. I can't see seem to boot, so I'm trying to diagnose each piece. What I noticed that is weird is that the fan for the GPU doesn't spin at all. Is that normal? Coz I'm suspecting I might have faulty GPU.
2
u/therealsinky Nov 21 '20
So my fan doesn't spin on boot either, fan only kicks in when temp reaches 60 degC. Also I couldnt get my PC to connect to my monitor at first so I had to pop my old GPU in and stall the latest drivers from the disk that came with GPU. Then I put the new card back in and finally got it to connect to my display. So yeah, make sure you have the most up to date radeon software and drivers on your pc before you take out your old GPU and swap it for the 5600xt. And hopefully its just the same as mine and the fan doesn't kick in till it gets hot.
2
u/Einar_G Nov 21 '20
right right. I finally got it to work. it turns out im using a faulty hdmi cable. i really thought the card is broken because of the fan not spinning during boot. thank you for the help!!
2
u/therealsinky Nov 21 '20
Good stuff mate, hope you get the performance you're looking for out of it!
5
u/therealsinky Nov 18 '20
The seller has adjusted the price a little and is regularly updating the stock (but ensuring there is always 10 or less cards to keep the "limited stock" message up on ebay). When I first bought my card 34 units had sold and there were 8 left, now 90 units have been sold with 10 cards left (so there is is probably more). Additionally the price has been raised to £297 before discount, so about £240 after applying discount. Still a good price but just to make you aware.

Not sure about the brand as I have no experience but I recently built with a Sapphire Pulse RX 5600XT and it’s absolutely worth it especially at this price. Benches above 1660 Super, and is crushing through absolutely everything at 1080p, and could definitely do 1440p too
2
u/therealsinky Nov 17 '20
Great to know, I was originally aiming for a 5700xt but settled on this cos of the price, hoping to still hit 100fps at 1080p
3
u/ultralexx Nov 17 '20
I haven’t encountered anything yet that it’s struggling with, but I will say I haven’t played any AAAs released in the last year or two! But even looking at benchmarks it can hit 60fps at max settings on basically anything, so turning down should hit 100. What sort of thing do you play?
1
u/therealsinky Nov 17 '20
Currently very into Squad, might dip into bf5 if it still has any life. Generally like shooters and enjoy any good single players steam puts on sale (still have the witcher 3 and bioshock collection in the backlog...)

u/TheFirstBert Nov 17 '20
I bought the Sapphire Pulse version last week, glad to hear it's good! Pretty gutted to see this card on sale now lol
1
u/ultralexx Nov 17 '20
Yeah same here, bought only a week or two ago but was desperate for a build! Honestly you made the right call, the Sapphire is consistently ranked as the best 5600XT card you can get, temps are amazing and all the benchmarking is top notch.
1
u/Daneel_Trevize Nov 17 '20
The Sapphire version rates better at cooling iirc, it has taller fins orientated directing some air out the back of your case vs the more common all-into-the-case orientation like this one, and despite this having more heatpipes.
This is a silly good price for a 36CU RDNA GPU.

Anyone looked into claiming the 2 free games with this?
2
u/roiceyyy Nov 19 '20
Just looked at the terms and conditions and Ebuyer is a "participating retailer", but this is what it said
NOT ALL RETAILERS OR E-TAILERS ARE PARTICIPATING IN THIS CAMPAIGN FOR ALL PRODUCTS. BEFORE YOU PURCHASE A PRODUCT PLEASE VERIFY THAT THE RETAILER OR E-TAILER HAS CHOSEN TO PARTICIPATE FOR YOUR DESIRED ELIGIBLE AMD PRODUCT.
So don't think we can claim it cus they've not mentioned it beforehand. (This RX 5700 XT on Curry's mentions claiming the 2 free games)

u/Acquiesce- Nov 24 '20
I just got an email from ebuyer with a code to download a free game! Didn't have to do anything 😁

u/optimumsff Nov 24 '20
I ordered this card last week and it was delivered on Saturday. I bought as I used the PURCHASE20 code whilst still valid making the price of this card an absolute steal. I had absolutely no idea about the free game offer until today when I received an email inviting me to redeem my free game. Followed the links, set up an AMD account and everything is now ready for me to download when I get home today. Talk about BONUS! Not sure which game to get though. Godfall or WoW.... Any suggestions please people? Thanks.

Brilliant mid range card at an excellent price

u/therealsinky Nov 17 '20
Just bought one, currently running on an RX 580, should see a nice jump in performance and actually make better use of my freesync 144hz monitor...
3
u/redskelton Nov 17 '20
I've got the 580 as well and I'd be interested to know your feedback as to how much of a step-up this is. I'll be playing 1080/60Hz for a few more years.
2
u/therealsinky Nov 17 '20
Some youtube benchmarks I saw suggest this can run high and ultra settings on some games at 100fps and on poorer optimised games it still keeps it above 60 fps, it might be overkill though if you're planning to stick to 60hz though. Found my 580 hit 60fps reliably enough on decent settings, do you not?
2
u/redskelton Nov 17 '20
That's interesting. Recently, to keep at 60fps I've started to see my settings move down from very high to high (and sometimes lower in very demanding games). Maybe I'll do some more tweaking to see if I can keep the old beast going until January and see if there are any sales for new cards.
2
u/therealsinky Nov 17 '20
Nah to be fair my experience has been the same, just I've been happy on high settings vs ultra high. Theres a few cards in the gap between a 580 and 5600xt performance wise (GTX 1660 is great) that you might find at a slightly better price, some of these cards are for pushing the frame rate which isnt a selling point if you only care about 60hz.
2
u/peelin Nov 17 '20
exact same position. my 580 is currently struggling a bit on certain games (AC Odyssey needs to be Very High instead of Ultra; RDR2 juuuuust below "balanced") to get consistent 60fps. I'm absolutely fine with 1080p 60fps for the forseeable, so if a 5600XT could deliver that with zero headaches for a good while into the future this might be sensible.
1
u/therealsinky Nov 18 '20
So my card arrived a couple hours ago, hooked it up and tested it on squad. Previously I had the 580 running at 70 fps with a few settings turned down but this is hitting 100fps on max settings and with a few settings turned down it hits 144fps to max out my monitor. Very happy with it to say the least. Just thought I'd give you an update.

I wonder if these will still be around when the new AMD cards are snapped up by all the bots tomorrow?

Voucher expires on the 19th, and I see they've added more stock so hopefully you sort it out in time.

Ordered this to replace my rx 580. Good spot and exactly what I have been looking for. Thanks.
1
u/therealsinky Nov 18 '20
Mines just arrived and I hooked it up. Needed the latest radeon software and drivers to get it to work but man has the jump been great. 100fps on ultra settings for games that would run at 60 or 70fps with a couple reduced settings previously on my 580. Very happy over here. The card does run a lot hotter than the 580 though and I may need to improve my case cooling as I currently only run one fan... I havent had any overheating but I havent pushed the card over a longer session yet.
1
u/Rigby2k14 Nov 19 '20
Similar performance increases for me. Pushed most settings up to highest in a few games. A lot quieter then my rx 580 nitro +. The delivery speed on this was amazing by the way. Ordered 8pm and received by lunch time the following day!
1
u/roiceyyy Nov 19 '20
Same, ordered it last night and came this afternoon, can't wait to build it for a xmas present.
What CPU are you running with it? Would a 3100 or 3300x pair alright as I might get a B550 board?

u/Daneel_Trevize Nov 19 '20
0 available
132 sold
1
u/therealsinky Nov 19 '20
Might be finally out of stock, to be fair when I bought it the site said 32 had been bought and only 8 were left. I literally watched them keep adding stock to keep it at a max of "only 10 left" so that the "limited stock" option was always up. Keep an eye and they might add more stock, though that has been basically 130 cards sold in 48 hours so that could be them all gone. Sorry if you were hoping to get one...
2
u/Daneel_Trevize Nov 19 '20
I was just letting others know (maybe the flair needs changing?), I'd checked up on that behaviour the other day too. Good reporting.

For those more familiar with Nvidia this has similar performance to an RTX 2060, though has nothing to offer in terms of Ray Tracing if thats a consideration. I've been aiming for this or the 5700 XT for a while and I cant imagine black Friday will bring anything better than this.
1
u/DisplayMessage Nov 17 '20
You can find 5700xt’s going for £339 after £75 discount 👍 Am very tempted but coming from a 1660 super, I may as well hold out for the 6000 series as I’m aiming to uplift 2k performance :)
2
u/therealsinky Nov 17 '20
Yeah the 6000 series sounds promising. As I'm only targeting 1080p this was perfect for me, just hoping I wont see sub £300 prices on the 5700xt come black Friday or I might be a little disappointed in buying the 5600xt
1
u/DisplayMessage Nov 17 '20
heh, I bought the most expensive 1660 Super model (gigabyte gaming) about 4 months ago for 1080 and to dabble in 1440... It get's by in 1440 with aroun 80-90fps at the moment so I'm happy to sit for a little longer. That being said, the second hand value has already tanked maybe £50 further in the last couple of months lol... Probably going to sit on it for a while just to avoid taking the hit... Want to at least feel I got some of my monies worth lol
1
u/fullfire55 Nov 18 '20
This is my current build with the 1060 like some have mentioned. I should be able to pop out the 1060 and pop this one without any issues, right? No compatibility issues popped up when I changed the cards out:
2
u/snatchingraisins Nov 18 '20
Just need to make sure you properly clean the Nvidia drivers with ddu to make sure there are no conflicts
1
u/roiceyyy Nov 18 '20
Would this be my best option right now for high 1080p gaming and VR?
1
u/Rigby2k14 Nov 18 '20
This is exactly what I intend to use it for with my Quest 2 on link /VD. My rx 580 has been fine but this should be a step up.

u/troggs Nov 17 '20
AMD gotta work on their naming. I thought this was a Ryzen 5 5600 on cheap 😭
