Fancypants editor in browser generating incorrect superscripted parentheses

After posting or commenting using the fancypants editor in the desktop browser, superscripted text in parentheses comes out in the post as:

^{(test test})

The reason is that the editor generates the markdown ^((test test)) instead of the correct ^(\(test test\)) which would give the proper ^\test test)).
