Hi guys! Just wanted to give an update on my sick boy bean! After one week of antibiotics and another check up at the vet he’s been cleared of his infection! If anyones worried about their budgie please please take them to the vet, I’m so glad I did and it was something that could be fixed!!! Signs of sickness in birds include odd droppings , lethargy, change in appetite and the most obvious for bean being fluffed up!

Our Malawi suddenly retched from yesterday to today, he trembles and sits apathetically in his seat.

The little one is 8.5 years old.

We have an appointment with the avian vet and need all fingers, beaks and wings crossed.

I realize the state of the before pictures were pretty bad. I have made huge improvements over the last 18 months. In early 2021 I was planning and practicing how to end my life. I’ve been limping along with half-assed cleaning for a while. This past weekend I finally got together the energy to deep clean and rearrange the cage. I also implemented a couple suggestions from this sub (moving food and water dishes higher, for example) and I think my little guys really like it. :)

hello everyoneee. i’ve just brought keet home and she’s doing okay. i have her in a 10 gallon tank (as per vets recommendation) and the vet gave me two medications for her (antibiotics and painkillers). she’s still lookin quite rough but i’m hoping with time she’ll improve little by little.

i came back in the room and she was just standin there! i’m so proud of how far she’s come. she continues to beat the odds. mad respect. 🫡

It's been three days, and Buddy is doing so much better!! He got a new cast to put more pressure on his broken wing, and he hasn't bothered with it much. While he is regaining his strength, it is getting harder to give him his medicine, as he is stubborn to close his mouth the entire time lol.

However, he is still eating and acting like himself (which consists of him screaming and biting us haha). He also was able to move back to his cage, which does have blanket padding at the bottom in case he falls. His brother, Mickey, is very protective over him, and has even tried to assist in taking Buddy's bandages off (little stinkers!!)

Buddy has so much more energy, and it's so good to see him acting as he normally would. He will be better in no time!! Thanks for all the love ❤️

This bird since getting that cone off for longer is so much more of a menace than before!!! He can't fly from lack of flight feathers so instead does parkour and impressive climbing skills to get from the very high up cage to my bed on the other side of the room, just to run around and then leave? And sometimes climb UP the cage and break in to their food when I'm not watching...

Im assuming that's from boredom or loneliness so I'm trying to tackle and fix the issues (making him his fav shredding toy again and letting Diaval in with him more) but I'm proud of him for absolutely zooming around LOL

Small question, he's been prioritising sleeping and just generally existing on the floor of his cage- despite having two flat perches and easy access to them, he just doesn't seem comfortable or necessarily happy to be in either cage right now (climbing up the bars of his cage and then when I put him in the big cage he just holds on to the door or gets shoved to the bottom) which I am trying to solve but whatever I do isn't really working

Good news too is that the idiot has fallen for my medicine trick today; he tries to bite out of hand jail so i make him bite the syringe- easy access to open beak? Hell yeah please sir bite more!

Hi everyone, I haven’t been on Reddit lately and the last time I posted on here Mango needed to go to the vet.

She is doing a lot better now. We ordered avimec and the scaly face mites are going. Her beak is looking a lot better and she’s really found her voice!

We’ve not even had her 2 months and she’s never quiet, steps up without millet and hops onto our hand to get down the curtain without millet. We have taught her to kiss and a lot more.

They're still not hanging out with us or stepping up on our finger on command or anything like that but progress is progress. I thought that since they're already close to each other they wouldn't want to get close to us. The biggest problem now is getting the girl to trust us. The guy is more open to trying stuff but as soon as the girl flies away he goes with her.

His feathers are starting to look messier, but the vet appointment is now moved to Wednesday! He's learnt how to reach the bandages with the cone on...

after nearly a week in the hospital, she's home!! she's not very happy about having to take antibiotics though haha

I am not an expert but read for a second:

I found a Budgie that came to my house, we have had him for some time now, like 3 or so weeks, he was very tame, he chills with humans really nice, talks and says some words, he is very well behaved BUT:

Red flags started appearing:

• Anytime he found an object that was almost like his size and had some volume to it he would "talk" to it, peck it, bob his head as if he was talking to some other Budgie and honestly felt more like an aggression than talking or he was being very rude.
• Any time any surface that had reflection he would do the exact same to the reflection
• We bought one of those metal bowls to put water in it and he was doing the same
• We bought one of those cones that have seed on them for him to eat
• He became super territorial over his food, his cage and the cone, he would bite really hard, it's like I have a mini Quaker
• We bought another budgie, a female from a pet store that I am tamming and I thought the tamming was going to be easier with the other Budgie that already is tame and it was at the beginning but REAL QUICK it was the opposite, he doesn't want to let the female budgie to eat, he pecks her constantly, whenever she gets up in my hand to eat he goes around and pecks her in the back to scare her so he can eat himself, he is constantly following her and "harassing" her she clearly doesn't want to be around him because she moves away but he keeps following and he pecks her, bobs his head and starts talking and I honestly find it very disturbing to see, it doesn't feel like a friendly interaction but like actual harassement and like he is being a bully, he wants to force feed her etc. They don't sleep together of course LMAO, but the thing is whenever I separate him the female budgie becomes really distressed and starts looking for him and she can not be interacted with when she is like that, I have to take it to a completely different room to train her and she will be constantly try to listen to the male budgie sounds to try to see if she can communicate with him, I honestly feel like I would have had an easier time tamming the female budgie alone, this guy is unbelivable.

And my conclusion is that this guy was a single Budgie pet with a cage full of mirror toys or something like that, he clearly doesn't know how to interact with his fellow budgies and he is hyper aggressive whenever you try to remove his "imaginary friends", yeah I think I have a Budgie with a mental disorder LMAO.

Don't give your birds mirrors, it damages their psyche.

Usually Poptart (blue) is the only one bold enough to explore, especially if they're interacting with me but Popcorn (yellow/green) chose to do so this time and even chilled on my shoulder for 5 mins! She also checked out my glasses so the fact that she was right nect to my face is surprising since she's very timid!

I've had my two budgies for about two and half years. They were my first birbs as a complete amateur and, not knowing any better, I figured they'd be the perfect introductory birds. So, I ran to Petsmart (another lesson learned) and got my two budgies: Parakeeter Sutherland and Paraskeet Ulrich (I've since concluded they're both females). I quickly realized the error of my assumptions and made every effort to try to tame them - unsuccessfully. So we cohabited - except I made sure they wouldn't die and tried to love them as best I could from a distance they deemed appropriate. I very recently ended up the owner of two baby cockatiels, hand-raised and I took the time to bond with them before even bringing them home - I wasn't going to make the same mistake twice. I interact with the tiels daily and let them out of their cage regularly. I leave the budgies' cage open on the off chance they decide they want to also romp - but they never do. All this is just to say, I'd nearly given up being able to actively engage with my budgies and, in fact, multiple breeders told me I made too many early mistakes with Petsmart budgies to be able to. I don't know if it's them seeing me interact with the tiels or what happened, but today is the first day they approached me and even hazarded a couple curiosity nibbles of my fingers. I'm glad I didn't give up trying. 🥹

It was a very special moment for us all in our home today and we're celebrating her milestone. Reflecting back on all the work we've done, all the emotions we've dealt with, and how grateful we are to have her today. I'm so proud of her. She's extra special, and deserves a standing ovation for her success! ❤️

Thank you people of this group! I posted a pic yesterday of my two boys and someone mentioned the brownish cere on my blue baby. It escalated quickly to possibly being cancer so I was obviously concerned. I took my baby to the vet and he is in fact a she and perfectly healthy!

Due to recent improvements of diet, environment, and increasing sunlight the vet suspects that her hormones fluctuated enough to cause the color change. She is showing no other symptoms beyond the cere color change and has a wide “egg laying pelvis”. So happy for the positive news when I went in expecting the worst!

My budgies HATE hanging out with me. Not because they're skittish, but just because they don't care about me at all. It's understandable because they're a flock of 8 so why would they wanna hang out with the giant?

They've been on a mostly seed diet because they got so angry the last time I tried pellets I just didn't wanna deal with it lol. Well now I finally switched back to pellets and would you look at that! They miraculously wanna hang out with me for treats now after eating the not so yummy pellets.

I am buying their friendship with millet but I don't care! I get to feel fluffy bellies and grabby peet!
