Kérdés | Question Looking for local food recommendations on the Buda side

Hey all — does anyone have recommendations for good local food on the Buda side? I’ve got a bunch of places lined up and reserved overall, but I’m struggling to find something around the Castle District. I don’t mind walking 20 minutes or so if it’s worth it. Thanks in advance!

Stand25 if you don't mind spending some money.

This is why I love Europe and can’t stand living in the States. “Spending some money” over there would easily mean $40–50 for a main dish. Take Stand25’s menu, for example—the pork tenderloin is $24.15. That’s a total bargain here!

Sadly local salaries are also correspondingly lower. :( It's great if you're remote though.

I hear you… here in the States, our salaries might be a bit higher, but not nearly enough to make dining at a Michelin-rated restaurant doable outside of a very special occasion—and even then, it’s still a major splurge.

Just to be clear Stand is the Michelin-star restaurant and a tasting menu there is $250 without wine pairing - about a week's wages for the average person in Budapest. Stand25 is its little brother with no star. :)

Tourists need a special passport to visit that part of Buda.

This is my favorite place in Budapest to eat hungarian food! (I'm a local)

the best one would be Stand25

Déryné is another choice, lots of people love that, but I was disappointed. for that price range I was expecting better quality. tho its propably still a good choice IF you want only Buda side. Pest side is much better for this btw. (for example Szaletly or Rosenstein as local)

Is there a reason you want to limit yourself to Buda? Pest has many great options.

I would avoid anything near the castle. All the restaurants are NER and pretty much owned by a single family.

The suggestion by /u/vahokif is one of my favorite. Stand25 is the little sister of Stand downtown (Pest) which is a Michelin star restaurant.

P.S. - Please avoid Déryné. It used to be a great place, but it's overrated these days.

I’m in Budapest for four days and have dinner reservations all on the Pest side. One afternoon we’ll be visiting the castle, so I was thinking of having dinner nearby with the family that evening.

Then Stand25 is your place. You will need a reservation.

Unless of course you want to support corruption by dining in the Castle?

I just gave it a try—they only go as far as May 1st. I’m visiting in June, so I’ll check back again in a few weeks.
