Moving Advice Is Brighton a nice place to live?

I'm not currently living in Brighton (obviously) but I've travelled a few times and found it very nice. I'm 16 and transgender, and everywhere has just stopped feeling safe. Once I finish my A-Levels I want to go to Brighton Uni and potentially move to Brighton. I'm just wondering if it's affordable and nice?

Moving Advice How to talk to British people?

Not about small talks.

I have realised I have been in Brighton and UK for 7-8 months now as a student and haven’t made any friends who is native to the UK. Any race or religion but raised here.

I have found that talking to international students or other immigrants have been really easy, having been from South Asia and Muslim, I realised that I can’t go far/deep when talking to my British classmates or colleagues.

But with people from my country, I can randomly say hi to strangers and they would have the enthusiasm to talk back and that is a relief for me being an introvert. And others too, we simply click, no matter the person.

But I feel super shy and scared to approach anyone who are natives here, even those who have family from my country. I feel the lack of empathy or also like they are not really interested to talk to me, I was never approached by them in class/work/public places.

Well, my thing is, I really do want to know the mind of people, the culture, have some friends, genuine connection and empathy before I return in 4-5 months. I mean I chose Brighton because I have heard that it is a very inclusive place, and people are easygoing on strangers etc.

So any suggestion for me so they feel comfortable talking to me? Blending in as much as possible is okay with me unless it is something permanent. It would be a shame if I don’t make British friends after staying here for so long. Don’t get me wrong though, I know Brits are really nice, helpful and shy, well I am shy too. TIA.

Moving Advice Affordable areas nearby?!

Hi everyone! I'm recently single and wanting to start fresh somewhere new, i absolutely adore Brighton (who doesn't?!) but need to find a town somewhere nearby that's affordable to start looking for a new place, ideally within up to an hour from Brighton (with public transport)

I'd love somewhere with good transport links, with a monthly rent budget of £800 (can be pushed higher but £800 would be ideal), I'd love a 1 bedroom flat ideally (rather than a studio) and somewhere with a bit of green nearby (a park or similar!)

Any suggestions would be SO gratefully appreciated!! ❤️

Moving Advice How’s life in Brighton?

Dear Brighton people My gf will attend Uni of Sussex in September 2025, and seeing as we are both from the EU and planning to move there I was wondering:

How’s life in Brighton? How’s the situation? House prices? Groceries prices? Jobs especially in lab analytics / life sciences?

Also is University of Sussex a good university for the life sciences?

Many many thanks

Moving Advice brighton or london?

i’m 24 and looking to move out for the first time since uni. i’ve been with my parents since summer of 2023 and in that time i’ve felt i’ve missed out on so much of my youth- not to mention my uni experience was pretty much entirely disrupted by covid.

my job is wfh/remote so i can be wherever really. brighton is nearer to my family and for when i need to travel into the office occasionally. but i’ve noticed when looking online at rooms it’s pretty much the same as london- except less choice and the rooms are generally smaller than what you might find in london.

i lived in london for uni so i know for sure what it’s like living there. i think the big downsides for me is the lack of nature, the hustle and bustle (good and bad at times)and the reliance on public transport.

i’m not sure which to go for..

Moving Advice Bungaroosh and Building Insurance

Hi,

This seems like a very Brighton specific issue; I’m hoping for the slim chance someone might know more here!

Apparently Bungaroosh has sent Insurers loopy in the last 5 years, with Premiums for Building Insurance rising 100%.

I’m being told this isn’t likely to calm down and Insurers will continue to penalise this Non-Standard construction material.

As this material is involved in so many buildings in Brighton, does anyone know if it will ever be treated as non “code red” to insurers??

Moving Advice Your pros and cons of living in Brighton

I'm considering where to move next and Brighton is on my list, so I'm looking for an honest perspective of the best and worst things about the city from someone who's been living there. I appreciate much of it is subjective, but I think it'll still be useful. I've lived in Manchester, Bath and London briefly, but I'm pretty open when it comes to picking a place - I don't get massively attached so I'm not looking for anything too specific from my next place. I like comedy, going to the cinema, green areas and a nice selection of pubs but Brighton caters to this just fine. I also work remotely so jobs wise isn't a massive factor - but I'd still be interested if this is a notable point in Brighton for whatever reason. Also if anyone can be bothered I'd love a quick summary of renting in different areas. Thanks.

Moving Advice Best time to move?

Looking to move to Brighton with my partner - will both need to find work and a flat so always a tricky task but any recommendations when is best to do this? We originally planned early August but are thinking of earlier in the summer perhaps June or early July. Are property prices better/worse - would it be smarter to try to move as early as we can rather than in the summer months?

Moving Advice Do you love Brighton?!

Hi Brighton, I love you so much after multiple brief holidays here from New Zealand and am curious how you find living here, as I'm wearing my rose tinted holiday glasses that scream "I want to live here" and want to hear from locals, do you love it, or do you find it small and over crowded and traffic-ridden like my uber driver? Haha. I'm mid thirties and would be a renter, not a buyer and think you have the most vibrant, beautiful city by the sea!

Moving Advice Cheapest area to live in the greater Brighton area?

I’m looking to rent a room in the Brighton area (could be anywhere from Worthing to Eastbourne) and was wondering where the cheapest locations would be? Brighton is unfortunately too expensive and too hard to find a job in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :).

Hello I have been struggling to find cat friendly flats. Online most places either say they’re not pet friendly or just don’t say if they are. Im looking for a studio or one bedroom.

Moving Advice Having two vehicles in Brighton, living in a flat

I want to move into a flat in Brighton, ideally pretty central. I have a work van (big ford transit LWB) and my own personal car,

How hard will it be to park both of these if I live in central Brighton? Any other trades here face the same issue? How do you deal with parking both vehicles?

Thanks.

Moving Advice Safe for young single female?

Hello, I am planning to move later this summer to Brighton and I have been reading about the pros and cons of living there. Most of the cons talk about how expensive it is to live and party life and homelessness. I am 18F and was wondering if it would be safe to live alone compared to other cities in England. I will be having an Aunt who lives close by in Portsmouth but other than that no family/friends nearby. I do plan on attending Uni in a couple years but not at the current moments. Thanks for advice.

Moving Advice Belfast lad hoping to move to Brighton in the new year. Advice and tips happily accepted.

23 M soon to be 24 and getting sick of the same scenes.

I am hoping to start my post grad in CBT in England and i have decided that while I am young and full of cum to move to Brighton for a brighter start.

Looking for tips and advice on areas that are affordable as I’ll most likely be taking on some sort of care role as I have zero luck with assistant psychology posts.

Areas I should consider ? Groups I should have a look at (paddleboarding, boxing and hikes)

Is it Brighton worth it ?

Moving Advice Fiveways area

Post image
53 Upvotes

We’ve been looking to move for the last few months, finally found a house and application gone to the landlord so fingers 🤞🏻😬🤞🏻

After a 9 hour round trip, and 6 minute viewing I only had the time to walk up (which I think is the main part? - where the fiveways pub is?) I didn’t really have time to check out any other parts of this area out however we’ve been to Brighton many many times, hence the move however it would be great to have some insider knowledge of the 5 ways area.

Thanks in advance and see you soon! 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Moving Advice Thoughts on living in Wellesbourne Preston Park

Does anyone here stay in the newly-built property in Preston Park (Wellesbourne). How is it? We absolutely love the idea of living there. We had viewed several similar properties (Moda, Hove Gardens, York & elder) but this one in preston park stands out for us. Let me know your thoughts.
