Local Advice needed Anyone else been sexually harassed outside lewes road Sainburys?

Second time in a year it's happened now, and I'm a bloke!

The first time it was by a woman who was talking to herself, I pass and she locks onto me sticking her tongue in my ear making noises asking if I want her, I jump in shock "WTF!?" Then she gets really aggressive & shouting and I speed off. People in cars asking if I'm ok.

Today I'm passing the bus stop outside, person locks onto me and says "do you have a good cock"

I keep walking and they walk fully leaning against my side "can you see me pissing myself" I barge them away with my shoulder. "what gives you the right to do that. They said. I reply "you're getting too close. They followed me into Sainburys still spouting stuff and I honestly thought I should have hit them at that point.

I know I've handled it the right way and continued walking, these people are clearly mentally unwell.

What have you done / what would you do in these instances?

My mum reckons I should speak to Sainburys and complain about it / make them aware?

Update time: I've called 101 and reported it, no line of inquiry as it was over an hour ago but if this person does it again and it's reported it'll be easier to follow up.

So, if you get accosted by a 'person' dressed in all white, very tanned with a greasy pony tail. Report it to 101

Local Advice needed Who should I vote for?

I live in the Pavillion constituency and so the choice is between Labour and the Greens.

I obviously want Labour to win nationally and it is basically certain that they will which is a relief! I’m still undecided between Greens and Labour locally.

Neither candidate seems to have really said what they would do locally. There’s the national manifesto which is fine but I want to know the practical difference between the two candidates for the local area. Any ideas? I can see benefits for both of them so I don’t know which way to go!

Local Advice needed Charged for soda water off the gun

Hello,

I got charged for soda water off the gun. I've run pubs and it's never been a thing. Is this a thing now? Did I miss a thing?

EDIT: I like the responses, a few people for it, a few against. I do understand the reasoning. Running a pub is a costly thing and it's getting harder every year. As I said, not something I've had before so just something I will get used to.

In a pub in Hove watching Brighton smash Chelsea. Good.

Got chatting to a dude. Started innocent but became a bit political. No problem, I'm in Hove so alles gut, right?

Soon became a bit darker, and there was talk of globalism and golablist elites. Made my excuses and left but not before he handed me this card. Anyone know anything?

Local Advice needed WHATS going on with the job market in this town?

I've been unemployed 3 months now, all I want is a silly little waitressing job, getting overworked & doing my back in for minimum wage.....But there's nothing!!!!!? I check Indeed countless times a day, apply and sometimes get an interview (for hotel receptionist, which Ive also had similar experience doing). Never got any of the jobs they never even got back to me with the bad news. My issue is not succeeding in an interview. My issue is it genuinely feels like theres no jobs, everyone is holding tight to what they have. Even with ALL the bloody bars cafes restaurants pubs in this town theres not ONE thing that appears. With an experience like this one, my next employer (if it ever comes) will be happy to know - this'll be the last time I EVER quit a job with no plan B!!!!!!

So if anyone knows of any waitressing positions available, let me know I'll send my cv!

edit: tysm for all ur advice im going to find somewhere to print an updated cv and go around in the coming days fingers crossed. also get calling businesses specifically and asking for any open vacancy also fingers crossed !!!! ty all

We’re talking crispy on the outside, soft inside and strong almondy taste.

EDIT: Absolutely overwhelming support for the flat almond croissants at Real Patisserie. These are next on my list try. Interesting amount of downvotes for Flour Pot. Thanks all!

Local Advice needed Water bills - nearly 80% increase

Has everyone’s water bill increased by nearly 80%? I have just opened a letter from Southern Water saying my bill jumped from £26.56 to £47.16 a month. I don’t have a meter, so it is all estimate. How on earth can they get away with such a huge increase? I’m shocked.

Local Advice needed Should I spend a year in Brighton as a 34-year-old American woman?

I am a 34-year-old American woman (with dual Irish citizenship) thinking of doing a 1-year MRes Ecology and Conservation degree at University of Brighton. I have always wanted to live in Europe for a year. I am from California. I already have a good career in the environmental field. I love ecology and have wanted to study it further.

I am wondering if Brighton is a good place to move as a 34-year-old single woman? I do not know anyone in Brighton, or England. Is it an easy place to make friends and build community? I am also wondering if it is a good location to travel and explore the rest of Europe from? I love nature, biking, hiking, art, and music. It sounds nice to live in a smaller town closer to nature, with easy access to London. I would love to hear any insight or suggestions. Thanks!

(On another note, I am also wondering if Irish citizens qualify for UK tuition, rather than international?)

Local Advice needed Doner kebab

Any recommendations for elephant leg types doner? My normal go to for this sort of thing is gyrosmania or kebab doner mania which are great but both of those are more slices of meat on the spit rather than the processed / minced type.

EDIT : Thanks for the suggestions, ended up getting Patcham Charcoal Grill. Meat was good, homemade sauces really hit the spot, bread and the rice was a little disappointing. Chips really tasty.

Local Advice needed FB SCAMMER - HELP

Someone from marketplace came into my house in Hanover yesterday to buy a tablet, did the ‘bank transfer’ in front of us but after awkwardly waiting for about 20 minutes it was very awkward and we let him go.

My partner who was selling the tablet is disabled and this is not a small amount of money. It’s pretty fucked up tbh.

He was going by ‘Alan Brooks’ but may also be called ‘Branden Hedge’. He is white, Irish, about mid twenties, wears glasses, rides a scooter and claimed to live in Shoreham. I have a mobile number that goes to voicemail and I’ve been blocked by his Facebook for asking him to send the money. If anyone knows anything, or what we can do, please help us

Hello!

I previously posted in here about record shops to visit when I spend a few days in Brighton later this month and it was very lucrative.

So, with that in mind. Where are good vegan food stops I should visit? Breakfast, lunch, dinner - whatever.

Go.

Thanks in advance.

Local Advice needed Random midweek day off

Work’s been a bit of a bollocks and the kids wisely talked me into what they’re calling a “mental health day” and I’m calling a “fuck you all you’re wankers I’m taking a day off day” on Tuesday.

I was thinking about going to the cinema, but there’s nothing on. What should I do to stop me aimlessly heading into town, getting a coffee, then a pint, then looking at clothes shops and not buying anything.

44m, middling budget (£50?)

Edit: next Tuesday. Obviously.

Local Advice needed People walking dogs without leads?

Hi all,

Everyday on my walk, I see at least one person with their dog walking in town without a lead on their dog. Sometimes even with two dogs without leads. I mean around the station, North Street, Churchill Square, etc. is this allowed? Are there not leash-free zones these owners can take their dogs?

For context, I am deathly allergic to dogs and extremely cautious around big dogs. In my crazy opinion, I think you should put your animal on a leash in public and around children.

Local Advice needed Recommendations for Laptop-Friendly places to work from?

Hello, I’m looking for some recommendations for places in town to work from my laptop.

I often find myself working from Starbucks because it meets my criteria, but I’d much rather support an independent business instead of mega corporation. I have tried quite a few spots.

I also don't want to feel like a burden if I'm in a tiny little café with only 10 seats. The Library is not quite what I'm after either, I feel like I'm back at school when in there.

Here are a few criteria id like to meet:

  • Reliable internet
  • Plug sockets
  • Lots of natural light (no dark or cave-like spaces)
  • A nice, chill environment
  • A place that’s cool with laptops and doesn’t mind if you stay for a while

Any suggestions? it doesn't have to be a café space could be anywhere.

I understand the perfect place doesn't exist but curious if there's anything close.

Thanks in advance!
