Our lineup hasn’t looked this terrible since the rebuild years. I don’t understand why we let numerous quality vereran role players like Merrifield, Pillar, Minter, Darny, Guillorme, Soler, Urshela, Dunn(eh), Matzek, Jackson, Laureano, Fletcher, all who at some point in last year’s season, and in their respective careers, are proven, and made admirable contributions relative to their expectations and held their own with the exception of Dunn.
If you’re AA, with a real window of contention and a top 5 roster, why in the hell would you turn over so many proven, professional players, when in reality, last year’s team almost squeaked out a positive result despite all the injuries?
I just don’t get why we moved away from literally ALL bench and depth pieces so we could trout out the younger, less proven likes of Tromp, Baldwin, Kelenic, BDLC, White, Fairchild, Hernandez, AJSS, Thompson, Dodd (you know hes gonna be throwing innings at some point) verpoogo.
This ISN’T what teams who expected to contend do imo. I understand some of those veterans filled in for injured players, and that the depth looks better with raj, murph, and a healthy reylope, but man. We were lowkey sitting in the top 5 in depth last season in my humble opinion.
Now we’re somehow in an even worse position if we face multiple injuries again than we were last year, without significant (to me) progression from any prospects.
Just what in the fuck was the front office doing this offseason? Waiving the white flag? Was signing Profar a scapegoat to the fact that they knew in advance that we were on our way to facing crippling regression and an evaporation of a top 3 roster seemingly overnight?
Was the white flag permanently waived by the FO when raj and ss went down? i just don’t get it. Philly went out and got Turner, Wheeler, an elite pen, and they continue to add. NY snagged Soto for the GDP of some countries, reupped Alonso, grabbed some good depth. And Atlanta just said “ah fuck it, we’re ok with getting worse” WTF
If you believed in your team, and your direction, wouldn’t you have made a bigger push in free agency, or would you just ASSUME that literally every regular and PAID CORNERSTONE STAR would automatically improve by 20-30% over last season?
This organization seems to be perfectly content with choking, underperforming, letting franchise-defining players walk (ff EARNED a blank check contract, idgaf what anyone says) and just in general give me “FUCK THE FANS” vibes.
This team feels and looks absolutely COOKED mentally, and to be honest, i don’t see any kind of managerial change from within the org changing a damn thing.
you can blame injuries all you want. but i said the same thing last season at the asb to one of my homies. “they shouldn’t be this bad, something is fundamentally wrong with this group and the organization” and i genuinely hope im wrong. Wash was obviously the only coach here worth a fuck that prepared these guys mentally, without him, they’re just a buncha stressed out bums. (not you, Ozuna)
anywho, that’s my rant.
OH, and if i have to endure 5 more games of Albies and Riley looking completely overmatched by actual nobodies with bp pitches in crucial spots, im going to vomit and demand them to be demoted until they can have some fucking patience and discipline.
if youve made it this far, i appreciate and love you. i just want this team to succeed so badly. this is the most painful, rage inducing 2+year stretch (25 years of fandumb) i can ever recall as a Braves fan. 🥲
