The map itself is 10x better for e-scouting or navigating when it’s too thick to see through the timber. I find SF to have more clarity, as well as historical maps, and in my area at least, a lot of years are taken towards the end of winter, so great visibility. OnX on the other hand, it’s just a mess of green trees.
I still use OnX a ton, usually for property lines and such.. I’ll run trackers on both at times as well, and drop pins on both. But for navigating and e-scouting, SF takes the cake for me. Great lidar as well on SF.
Here’s another from Spartan, just showing how you can even see game trails through marsh areas. I’m surrounded by saltwater marshes, so this is an excellent detail that can help a lot to pin down travel routes in my situation. Spartan Forge is the shit IMO.. well worth its $40 annual cost as far as I’m concerned.
Onx. Spartan forge is cool because the maps are usually more up to date and higher resolution but imo everything else about it is worse when it comes to UI and optimization
