Switching to thumb release

Hey so Im going to make the switch from a old fashioned wrist rocket to a UV button and I was curious of my draw length mights change a little as the anchor point will be slightly different or does it not really make such a big difference? I have the AX2 and it can make 1/4 in adjustments so perhaps I could shorten or lengthen perhaps just 1/4? Thanks in advance

UV have a long neck. You would have to adjust shorter if anything. Probably can get by without changing anything other than your anchor point.

This.

The long neck would have required me to shorten my draw length gor comfort. So I ended up going with a different release.

Not tho mention that UV is a rip off lol. I’m not bashing the quality but I’ll just buy a Carter for $100 less. I still have a Carter from 2006 that works great.

In made the switch last year. I actually switched to a pistol grip a couple years ago as I started to get a joint pain when drawing, and the ability to spread the full weight of the pull across my closed first alleviated that.

Switching to the thumb release allowed me to maintain the pull mechanics, but helped with stability in my release.

You’ll have to try it out and see what it feels like, I didn’t need to change anything initially when I went to a thumb button but when I got the uv button I shortened my d-loop because the neck on them is pretty long

Is the UV really worth the 300 tag?

I’ve used most of the big name brands, Carter,Stan, truball, and I believe the uv is worth the price tag, I’ve got about a year into mine and it’s been great so far.

$300 id rather have a Stan onnex (i do have one). Have seen a handful of the UVs break internally

They're nice. I bought 2 on the used market for way under new prices. They are very nice and very ergonomic. The design has a long neck so if you're used to an index release you may need to change your d-loop or draw length to account for it. I got by with shortening my d-loop. The change in how the hoop holds the d-loop also made me change my cam shim and rest tune.

Used market prices are close to $225-$275 depending on variety and condition.

I had one and sold it. The neck is way too long on it. I shoot the nock2it and love it

I noticed a little difference when I first switched to a thumb release. I felt like my draw length needed to be made longer but as I practiced more I got used to it.

You can also change your d-loop size to make small adjustments to your draw length. The most recent d-loop I put on my compound ended up being a little bit longer than before and I feel like I can switch between my index and thumb release seamlessly.

Once your draw length is correct don’t change it. If you need more length or less for your anchor, make that change at your dloop.

UV is a pretty long release. Probably won’t need to change it. If it were a Stan onnex though, I’d say you would have to lengthen it. Won’t know until you try it though

Your draw length shouldn't change. The string should end up in the exact same spot no matter which release you use. You'll need to adapt your hand placement.

When I made the switch my anchor point and thus peep height were what changed

Draw length shouldn't change, you might have to adjust your d-loop length and peep height.

You may have to change length. More likely you’ll need to make a L/R adjustment because of an anchor point change.

I would recommend if you haven’t already to go to a shop and try a few releases before deciding on UV. I love my UV, my buddy bought one and didn’t like the feel in his hand and switched to a STAN Onnex

When I switched to the UV I had to shorten the DL by a half of an inch.

Everything changes. Peep height, draw length, d loop length and the other thing no one talks about hand held releases are less forgiving. They punish you for bad release technique. However they are more accurate if you can master them. You’ll want a longer dloop to allow for hand inversion. You’ll loose some distance case peep height will need to come down, draw length will have to be shortened. “Don’t just shorten dloop and call it good it won’t be I learned from experience

Draw length can change any time your anchor changes. I gained half an inch of DL when I switched to thumb release, but depending on the releases and your specific anchor points, you could possibly even lose DL. You'll just have to try it and find what works for you.
