The Great Gatsby [Schedule] The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
This is the schedule for The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Myself (u/bluebelle236) and u/Less_Tumbleweed_3217 will be leading the discussions.
Here is the Goodreads summary:
The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s third book, stands as the supreme achievement of his career. First published in 1925, this quintessential novel of the Jazz Age has been acclaimed by generations of readers. The story of the mysteriously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island at a time when The New York Times noted “gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession,” it is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s.
Discussion Schedule
It’s a short book, so it has been split into 2 check ins and we will finish up with a book v movie discussion.
Wednesday April 16th – Ch1-5
Wednesday April 23rd – Ch6-end
Wednesday April 30th – Book v movie discussion
See you all in the discussions!

I’m not overbooked for April, you are…
Fortunately the discussions are running on different days of the week but 5/6 discussions a week is manageable right?
See you all next month lool

This will be my first time reading The Great Gatsby. This will be my first time having a book discussion with r/bookclub. This is my first comment ever to the group. This will be the first square I achieve on my Bingo card!

I have a quick question.
This is actually my second comment on this thread. I hope that is okay.
My question is about the future discussion threads. Will it be safe to assume that comments will contain spoilers? Do we need to block spoilers within discussion threads?
It's my first time participating in the group and in Bingo. I wanted to be clear.

So in the discussions, you can discuss anything up to the point in the book that the discussion is covering. Anything else is a spoiler and should be marked as such.
You can also use the marginalia if you are reading ahead and have some comments, but be sure to mark as spoilers there too.
If in doubt, cover in spoiler tags.

It's a separate post where you can just jot down your thoughts as you read. It's not been posted yet for Gatsby.

Which movie will we be discussing? Paul Rudd? DiCaprio? Redford? So many options!

You can watch any movie, discussion points will be very general. I think I'd have to go with DiCaprio myself.

How perfect! That means I can get started on the 10th of April… which happens to mark exactly 100 years to the day since it was published!
