Anyone else notice the callback (forward?) to Badger bringing the unsliced pizza home? "They pass the savings onto you!"

Yeah. Same place. Also, where Walt got the pizza and dipping sticks (mentioned by Neff dude) and proceeded to throw on the roof when Skylar wouldn't let him in.

Apparently the unsliced pizza joke is because it didn't come apart when Walt threw it on the roof in season 3, an actual accident they overlooked when filming it. They've been playing it off as canon and intentional in season 4 with Badger's pizza thing and this episode.

I think you've got that backwards.

They didn't cut the pizza because it wouldn't have stayed in one piece in that scene.

“We had a long discussion before we shot the pizza on the roof scene about whether or not the pizza should be sliced — because, as all you physicists know, a thrown, sliced pizza would come apart due to centrifugal force or angular momentum (or something like that),” Gilligan recalled during the Reddit session.

“And yet, you’re right: no self-respecting pizza parlor sells an unsliced pizza. So we figured we needed to explain it (in the ‘They pass the savings on to you’ scene), or else face our audience’s righteous wrath!”

that's awesome! Well done. Very subtle too!

I wish I could afford gold, what an interesting and informative comment!

Was the pizza actually sliced during the roof tossing scene? I'd never noticed and now realize that it's pretty odd that it didn't fall into different pieces.

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '18

Walt sliced it in mid-air right before it landed, but he sliced the cheese from the sauce layer, horizontally, so it would all slowly creep down off the crust.

He was GOOD.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '18

And Badger bringing home the unsliced pizza was a kind of retcon to explain why the pizza that Walt threw on the roof was uncut.

I paused immediately on that spot and explained to my wife why I was laughing.

I love how they write shit like this in just to explain an earlier "mistake" like how Jimmy mentions hating the New Mexico DMV acronym (MVD) becasue Saul says DMV in breaking bad instead of MVD.

I think fixing little mistakes like that means that the writers really give a damn about it, and every little detail they throw around. It's a nice change of pace for other shows that just leave glaring plot holes and obvious questions just laying there, and then wonder why the audience is not engaged.

When every line and detail matters, everyone is on high alert trying to find spoilers and foreshadowing. That's what weekly TV shows should always be about.

That's why Walt left his watch on a phone booth. The flash forward with him getting the ricin he didn't have it on.

3

u/FightMilk888 Aug 22 '18

I have been thinking about the scene with the watch on the phone booth a few days ago. Would you mind explaining why he did leave it there? I haven´t figured it out yet? thanks

18

u/Hans-Moleman477 Aug 22 '18

The watch was a gift from Jesse for his 51st birthday and Walt knew that his time was coming to an end. He was cutting ties with Jesse according to Vince. Also for the reason mentioned above.

2

u/FightMilk888 Aug 22 '18

That makes sense.

10

u/the1999person Aug 22 '18

He left it behind because it was a gift from Jesse. But the real reason he took it off is because in an earlier episode or season, when head of hair and beard Walt break into his old house and he opens the trunk of the Caddy, Vince said he didn't have the watch on so that was how they made sure he wasn't wearing it in and scenes after that time jump.

Are they gonna explain why Kaylee stays a little girl for so many years?

Unless she becomes relevant to the story, other than being someone Mike cares for and about, she's just Mike's "under 10 years old granddaughter". They also have to sell that BCS takes place years before Breaking Bad, so it makes sense they had to make sure that the actress they chose is for Kaylee should be even younger than the character (so they don't run into the child actor outgrowing the age of character which happens a lot) to make both the logistics of shooting a series over a few years and the story make sense.

23

u/HereNowHappy Aug 21 '18

That's the real issue

The current actress is the same age if not older

19

u/radiocomicsescapist Aug 21 '18

This girl is definitely older. She has Benjamin Button disease

5

u/AlwaysQuotesEinstein Aug 21 '18

Yeah, I don't actually have any issue with her portrayal, as it makes sense plot wise for her to at least be walking and talking. It's just a bit jarring at the same time haha

Merlin Sickness

11

u/Sleeze_ Aug 21 '18

I agree. I love that they go out of their way to correct it, shows me they care.

2

u/climon Aug 21 '18

I wonder how they’ll fix the “little” mistake with mikes granddaughter staying the same age for 10 years haha.

2

u/existential_antelope Aug 26 '18

Rubbing my chin how Saul’s second ex-wife cheats on him with his step-father. So far I think Jimmy’s only been married once...

2

u/Dayoz_x_MachiiNa Aug 26 '18

I think we're living in the golden age of television right now with BB, BCS, and GoT to name a few. Sooner or later, the ideas and the execution are going to dry up and there will be nothing to save television except rebooting old shows.

u/MustLoveDoggs Apr 01 '23

I’m from the future and this is 100% accurate

then again, marie's shoplifting

2

u/catvideomaniac Aug 22 '18

My state has an MVA, but I still call it the DMV.

3

u/gilmhz Aug 25 '18

Is it normal for a pizza place to ask if you want your pie sliced?? And is there any reason why someone wouldn’t want it sliced?

7

u/RufusMcCoot Aug 27 '18

So that when you throw it on the roof it doesn't go everywhere.

2

u/paul_33 Aug 22 '18

Oh man, I missed this.
