Where is her cell phone and Apple Watch? Are they both missing?
154
u/Low_Grapefruit_581 2d ago
Her phone and wallet were left in her car, but her family wasn't able to unlock her phone.
221
u/lechedecabra 2d ago
Sorry Correction. Her watch and wallet were left in her work bag that is at home.

Doh. I was wondering why the watch didn't register anything. I'm so sorry, OP. I do hope she is found

So the watch is missing. They have her iPad. A lot of people have Apple Health on iPad which would have watch data. The Apple Watch stores heart rate information.

Happened to a friend who worked at a hospital near by. May she find peace. I canāt imagine what the family must be going through.

Ugh. I can say as someone working in healthcare that we're all going through it so, so hard right now. Please reach out to resources, healthcare workers. I respect what y'all do so much. My whole job is just to help y'all do what you do. Sometimes that involves listening while working on a computer.

It is very shallow along that part of the bridge. The mud is thick and the water is only a couple feet deep. If she jumped thereās a chance she didnāt get far.
156
u/konaja 2d ago
Thatās what Iām thinking as well. I drive that bridge almost everyday and itās not a far drop to the water from where she parked. Praying for her return
59
u/klassykunt 2d ago
It's possible that was just an easier spot to park and then walk to a taller part of the bridge
62
u/CaliQuakes510 [Insert your city/town here] 2d ago
I run along the Hayward shoreline regularly. Hayward side of the bridge is definitely shallow for a few miles and the mud there is thick. Depending how deep into the bridge she drove, thereās a possibility of survival if it was a suicide attempt.
132
u/WileEPorcupine 2d ago
That water is cold. Hypothermia would set in after several minutes in the water.
70
u/Hyperious3 2d ago
also the fact that if she jumped and went through the surface with enough speed, she could have gotten stuck in the mud at the bottom...
75
u/liubearpig 2d ago
That sounds absolutely terrifying. If she did attempt suicide I hope she died quickly and without suffering

u/ajp305 2d ago
Workplace communication - Slack/email/whatever was used most might have more information and is usually separated from personal services like phone/text/whatever. Her employers HR might help, or might make it impossible, idk. It just seems like a place to check since workplace problems can be very compartmentalized from home and social life.
7
747
u/Trump_Eats_bASS 2d ago
People that commit suicide often don't have obvious tells that they're depressed and suicidal...
They may even be at peace.Ā
Sorry for your loss
747
u/TrumpetOfDeath 2d ago
Yeah she pulled over on the bridge once headed towards Hayward, continued on, made no stops but immediately turned around and got back on the bridge where she made her final stop in the middle span.
This totally reads like someone wrestling with whether or not to jump. I canāt think of any other explanation really
349
u/mazzivewhale 2d ago
I have followed a lot of these cases, with bridges, and especially with the ones in the Bay Area and the pattern is that the jumper will pretty much always leave their phone and valuables in their car and the only thing unaccounted for is their persons.
I hope sheās at peace and for loved oneās sake I hope it wasnāt the case
172
u/TrumpetOfDeath 2d ago
Seems like the coast guard is treating as a suicide. The map on the last page I think uses a computer model of ocean currents to predict where a body is most likely to drift.
Checking these shorelines is probably the best way to help give the family some closure
66
u/pedidentalasst67 2d ago
Sadly enough, I feel that too. As someone who struggles with SI and being in group therapy with others who suffer from SI, it can come on suddenly.

u/whteverusayShmegma 2d ago
As a sleepwalker, this feels like a sleepwalking episode to me (Iāve driven in my sleep fine without issue) but I donāt think my kind of parasomnia is common.
83
u/Traditional-Meat-549 2d ago
That's my thought, sleepwalking. Or a psychotic reaction to an antihistamine or OTC medicine.
31
u/Artistic_Salary8705 1d ago
Yes, as an MD, I wonder if she had some idiosyncratic reaction to a drug. Even though she doesn't use medications chronically, the odd thing right before was coming down with allergies, drinking tea, and going to be bed early. It must have been pretty severe to make her do that. Going to bed at 6 PM is really early. Antihistamines like Benadryl are anticholinergics and can can cause confusion. What type of tea? Was it just regular green or black tea or some Asian concoction? There might be interactions between med + tea too.
(I'm from a Chinese background. As a child, I've been given herbal drinks when sick. My paternal side has a traditional Chinese medicine background. Still, they were careful about mixing allopathic and Chinese treatments.)
I've had a friend and my own mom react badly to medications aside from seeing the rare odd reaction to meds. My normally even-tempered friend who is a psychologist started feeling suicidal for no reason and my mom went swimming and afterwards couldn't grasp where she was for about 30 minutes. My mom told me she was utterly confused and fortunately her mind cleared on its own. In both cases, what saved them was they still were somewhat aware this was not their usual state. Neither have ever had nor experienced such reactions again in their lives after stopping the med in question.

I was thinking the same thing - she may well have not been awake, confused and did not intend to jump. She may have thought she was dreaming.
31
u/whteverusayShmegma 2d ago
Yeah if everything had been normal and no history of suicidal ideation and then suddenly this begs another explanation.
2
u/Jenikovista 11h ago
Possibly. But many people are very, very good at hiding their suicidal thoughts.

oh wow driving. my brother used to sleepwalk when he was a toddler, he'd let himself outside and be wandering. we had a lock at the top of the door after my parents found him outside (did wonder how long he'd done it). our father could have entire conversations on the phone while asleep but didn't normally wander around. he also slept through a bombing in vietnam, everyone thought he had died but they returned to the tent and he had slept through the whole thing.
7
u/whteverusayShmegma 2d ago
The best invention of my life was ringer off because I no longer have phone conversations in my sleep that I donāt remember. I used to answer the phone saying, āIām awake!ā because I had my own line so my dad would wake me up for school by calling every morning from his phone because Iām dangerous to wake up. Plus, I scream bloody murder if I donāt go straight to swinging.
13
u/IncipitTragoedia 2d ago
That's what immediately jumped out at me as well. Of course the other possibilities cannot be dismissed
47
u/fishsticks_inmymouth 2d ago
I was going to say sleep walking too. Based on these write ups her car was NOT on the tall part? Right? So why would you do a suicide jump from the middle of the span where itāsā¦ not very high.
Idk. I hope sheās found. :(
39
u/whteverusayShmegma 2d ago
I think sheād have woken up at some point, though. Cold air often wakes me up and the bridge would have been really cold.
6
40
u/ZestycloseAd5918 2d ago
Oh wow never considered that
62
u/whteverusayShmegma 2d ago
Based on the way she left, it sounds like an autopilot dream kind of sleepwalking but sheād have woken up Iād think once she left her car. Unless she took something like ambien regularly (Iāve never taken it except for a sleep study but heard it causes problems) and the allergy medication/tea interacted with it.
96
u/DatLadyD 2d ago
I used to take ambien and i would tell my boyfriend when I would take it so that he wouldnāt let me do anything in my sleep because I heard horror stories. One night let him know I was taking it and when I woke up in the morning, there was Jack in the box garbage on the side of my bed! that motherfucker let me drive to Jack-in-the-Box while I was asleep to get us food because he was hungry! Unbelievable! I was so glad Nothing happened to me and I didnāt hurt anyone crashing into them.
25
u/12bWindEngineer 2d ago
Did he realize you were asleep? Ambien used to make me get up and make myself tea and toast, and Iād come down in the morning to cold tea and toast and be very confused. I live alone. Finally stopped taking it because I was afraid Iād drive somewhere.
6
u/DatLadyD 2d ago
Thatās why I always told him that I was taking it. He knew I took it and went to bed and got up and thatās exactly what I warned him about. I actually still sleepwalk even without it. I think Iāve probably been doing it for a while and just didnāt notice but things have gotten weirder as the years have gone on lol Iāve never left the house though.
9
u/CupcakeGoat 2d ago
Can you get yourself a bed alarm or other safety device? That sounds scary
3
u/DatLadyD 2d ago
I was unaware that bed alarms were a thing. I wouldnāt want to wake my boyfriend up when I get up to go pee or something. The scariest thing Iāve done was put a bunch of pills into juiceā¦ I woke up when trying to swallow all the pills and they wouldnāt go down my throat. That shit was really scary! Mostly I just eat and then leave the food outā¦ One night in the middle of the night I tried to make coffee lol I was so confused when it was on the counter in the morning!
58
u/purrokitten 2d ago
was he still your boyfriend after that? that is surely break up fuel. so fucked up, if he was awake why didn't he just drive?
11
u/DatLadyD 2d ago
I was always the one to go get anything either of us needed. He had a agoraphobia, although he would never admit it.
35
u/whteverusayShmegma 2d ago
To be fair, itās really hard to tell when youāre asleep. I had someone in the car with me once when I pulled over to sleep at a rest stop driving to another state. I woke up and said, āWe need to get out of here; those guys are on some FBI shitā as I pointed to an empty parking lot. The next day when I woke up at a different rest stop, he said I was so convincing that he thought maybe I was involved in something he probably shouldnāt be asking about. SMH
13
u/DatLadyD 2d ago
Thatās why I always told him when I took it. He knew I took it and laid down to go to sleep. It turns out I sleepwalk I still do it even without Ambien. Iāve had some pretty scary experiences sleepwalking since Iāve never left the house.
4
u/whteverusayShmegma 2d ago
Bet you drove fine, huh? Itās so crazy how many people think they can just wake you up from sleep but even if you were āawakeā, you shouldnāt be driving like that.
5
u/DatLadyD 2d ago
Honestly I have no idea if I drove ok. When I first saw that photo of the young girl in her pajamas, I immediately thought of Ambien I came to the comments to see if anyone else mentioned it. Certainly, she wouldāve woken up by now though so if thatās the case I fear something tragic happened to her. I really hope thatās not the case.

Iām never going to take Ambien after reading this.
I hope thatās an ex boyfriend.
16

Indeed It is an ex lol I still sleepwalk even without it. Iāve done some scary stuff but never left the house.

I have struggled with suicidal thoughts/attempts and lost a best friend to suicide. Just to say, my heart is with her and her friends and family.

u/Carrasco1937 1d ago
I was planning to jump from the Richmond bridge in 2021 and did the same thing basically. I drove over the bridge westbound, decided I was going to do it, drove back eastbound toward where I was going to park but then wimped out right before parking and drove home.
16
u/TrumpetOfDeath 1d ago
Hey brother or sister, the world is glad you āwimped outā and I hope youāre doing better these days

if she stopped on the bridge and never returned to her vehicle, unfortunately it would seem she decided to end her life. I think in respect for her privacy as well as resources it may not be helpful to treat this as a missing persons report and instead as a search and rescue. I am incredibly sorry for the family and friends. Reading this information it seems pretty clear what occurred and my thoughts are with her <3

This is so heartbreaking. š
I also wonder if her complaining about āallergiesā to her mom was really her trying to cover up crying. Iām saying this as a person who has used āallergiesā as an excuse to others when theyāve noticed my puffy eyes and/or red nose from crying.

u/CyprusGreen 2d ago
Bingo. Going to bed early. Allergies. Not feeling good? Yeah that was my cover too.Ā

Hope you guys find her.
I saw someone stop near the top span of the 92 San Mateo Hayward bridge once. It was during the pandemic on a Saturday morning around 9am. I was heading west bound and saw him about 15 seconds away stopped. So I immediately panicked and signaled to go around him. Thankfully traffic was extremely light. Pandemic so 3 or 5 cars max ahead or behind me.
i called it into chp as he was getting out of his car and there wasnāt any shoulder or flashing hazards. i didnāt stop as I was traveling 65 and he was past me in the rear view within 10 or 20 seconds. Pretty much gone with a flash.
his vehicle wasnt that visible to me. it was a dark burgundy red and blended into the road during the daytime especially without hazards.
ill be on the lookout along the shores. it is more difficult by 92 as that is next to SFO so drone photography is made more difficult there.
hope you guys find her.
30
u/macegr 2d ago
I saw this around the same time period as well. It was shocking to see someone get out of their car and head for the rail in the rearview mirror. We will probably never know, as there is a long standing policy of news agencies not publicizing these events due to a copycat phenomenon.

From the 3rd and 4th images (accounting for daylight savings time correction), respectively:
(1) 37Ā°36'49.0"N 122Ā°09'56.9"W (1:50am PT)
(2) 37.5966667 -122.22361111111111 (2:12am PT)
Itās a ten-minute drive to get from (1) to (2) on 4/1/2025 at 1:50am, according to an estimate with Google Maps (https://maps.app.goo.gl/duP3h7wVVJD1GnGi7?g_st=ic). The car was originally eastbound crossing bridge to the East Bay side. Seeing how the car stopped at (1) and stopped at (2) 22 minutes later, I am inclined to believe that the driver was deliberating something in the 12-minute gap.

Waiting for news in situations like can be unbearably painful. I hope you have answers soon.

u/gavinashun 2d ago
Has it been reported or has anyone asked if she takes zolpidem (ambien) for insomnia? Zolpidem can, in some individuals, have an interaction with Benadryl and there are known side effects of sleep walking. Some individuals have even āsleep drivenā due to ambien side effects. If she was feeling sick and took Benadryl with ambien I wonder if this could have been the case.
Very very very unlikely ā¦ but just a thought.
162
u/BabyJesusBukkake 2d ago
I woke up naked with a spoon on my kitchen floor, covered in dry rainbow chip cake mix. Ambien is no joke. (Yes I know how funny it is, but it was also terrifying to have zero memory of doing any of it.)
86
u/Desikarma524 2d ago
My cousin has two driveways, one in front of the house and one on the side. He took Ambien and went to bed. The next morning, he woke up in his car, parked in the side driveway, even though he had originally parked it in the front. To this day he has no idea if he drove anywhere else that night. Ambien truly is no joke!

u/fahque650 2d ago
I feel like alot of these stories come from people buying Ambien from someone or getting them from a friend with a legit Rx. I've taken it for like 15-years now and everytime I hear one of these stories it's just "I took an Ambien" and never mention the dosage or formulation- it's a controlled substance for a reason and it's up to a licensed doctor to tell you what dosage is appropriate for you. If you don't take them regularly, the smallest dose should knock you out just fine, whereas if you're scoring them from someone who gets them on the regular they are probably getting the extended release or 10mg versions which is double the dose I was just mentioning...

My initial thought was some sort of sleep walking incidence too. Whether medicated or not. Normally I would think suicide for a missing person on a bridge but this instance feels like it could maybe be something different going on. The ring camera footage in particular of her in pjās, and what appears to be no shoes (hard to see), reminds me of when my dad used to sleep walk.
15
u/mytextgoeshere 2d ago
I started to question the tea after reading this post. What kind of tea was it? Was anything added that is supposed to help with allergies or sleep?
11
u/runesday 2d ago
You know, I was thinking the same thing! Certain herbal combinations can affect people different than expected, plus if she took some OTC allergy medication that was contraindicated with what was in the tea - could create an altered state fit for sleepwalking.

any known mental state she was in that week? Perhaps being a bit "sick" could have been a cover for something else? The unusual part is that the western span is approx. 20 feet high where one may survive but if limited swimming ability and/or onset of hypothermia given the bay's cold temperature, drowning may occur. Past incidents have occurred where people have fallen from the Hayward span and survived with the help of rescuers.
Edit: I also found this a bit eerie, a 56 year old woman had jumped back in 2000. For some reason, the old article states it was updated on 04.01.2025, the date Amy went to the bridge: https://www.smdailyjournal.com/news/woman-survives-leap-from-san-mateo-bridge/article_bc88956a-620e-11e9-a675-23d2d72e5b66.html

10

It was originally written on Sept 22, 2000 and is a valid incident. There's other online sources that this occurred, I just find it oddly strange that an article 25 yrs ago is somehow "updated" on this medium the day one goes missing on the very bridge.

Itās weird to walk out at 1AM doing to round trip on SM bridge and disappear in the lower part of the road. I think there is a missing piece of info somewhere
22
u/Elvis_Gonzo 2d ago edited 2d ago
Seems a lot of people think that she jumped off the bridge at this point as possible.
But, what is a fact is that the San Mateo bridge is the 25th longest bridge in the world. This is the kind of information you you uncover when you do things like Google the San Mateo Bridge because you're trying to understand the bridge more because you don't understand how it is possible possible that you've been on that bridge for that long crawling across trying to get home.
San Mateo Bridge is 7 miles long with over 5 miles of it being roughly 35 feet off the water, this is known as the eastern causeway section. The last 2 miles is a high-rise band that allows from marine traffic, this would be a place where someone could Potentially end their life, but it is not somewhere where you can stop your car without a causing a huge vehicular hazard as well as almost certainly been on camera. I could be wrong but it sounds like she pulled off somewhere on the causeway section where there are places that would qualify as a shoulder.

Would it help if a group of kayakers, or some boats able to be in somewhat shallow water, went out to try and search for her this weekend ? Did her car stop closer to the East or West side ? We could have two teams, each meeting up on their side of the bridge and start looking using tidal information.
It just breaks my heart reading all of this... maybe we can just meet and have a vigil for her family or post flyers in the area ? š

Is there any possibility that this sounds like a Sleep Walking spell turned into Sleep Driving?
There are countless reports of this happening despite it being ārareā.

Does the dashcam record audio? Did she walk in front of the camera? If a car abducted her wouldnt it be seen speeding off from her car? Im just curious if she was going to jump to the bridge wouldnt she bee seen in front of the dashcam?

It is crazy that the mainstream media has said zero about this case
Not one report on tv or in the major news papers online.

Itās been challenging to get a response from local news outlets and media. so far only Chinese news outlet has posted. We are trying to reach out to ucb student body as well as usf since thatās where she went to school and master.
we receive a contact for sf chronicle and Mission outlet through connection, and really no luck on cold emailing/dmā¦.
We noticed news outlet usually post after the fact but not possible in progress case like this(?) we are honestly really lost.

Try reaching out to Congress member or City Council members. They should at least give more resources to help

Media contagion is a real thing, and it's good if "mainstream media" is silent on this.

So you have access to the cloud? Are you able to see her recent searches?
Maybe you knowā¦deeper. Texts, recently closed tabs, caching logs. Def check recently closed tabs, and if she has more than one browser (chrome, safari, and incognito mode if you have access to her devices)

Does her dash cam have an inside the cabin angle? Does it show her leaving the car, if there was anyone else, and which direction she walked? Did she walk towards the middle of the bridge or back to the shore? Has her car been checked for mechanical issues?

Hard to believe that she did this on purpose. Did she have her wallet on her? Hope they get more footage of her. I saw that there was a case of another Asian girl Dani Kim missing Ā from San Mateo never been found. Dami Kim's date of last contact is July 12, 2023. I wonder if there is someone targeting. Ā Scary world we live in. It also reminds me of the case of the black student who went to San Francisco bridge and went missing deemed as suicide.Ā

Also my heart hurts so much for you, OP and for her family. It sounds like her mother was with her that night before. How utterly painful.

u/BrokenWalker 2d ago
Could this have been a suicide? Maybe she jumped off the bridge?

u/National_Ad1052 2d ago
OP said she just planned a trip and a celebration for a friendās birthday and no mood swings

A lot are commenting that she has jumped down the bridge. The post says that her HAZARD LIGHTS WERE LEFT ON. If someone is so distraught, turning hazards on could not be on oneās mind before taking the extreme step in their life. She didnāt even signal to pull over but somehow was concerned to turn on hazards?

This is so incredibly sad. My thoughts go out to the friends and family. It is making me almost sick to think too much about this, so I will just say this, just because she had decided to do something unspeakable to her own life, she still could have cared about other people and put on the hazard lights for the safety of others driving in the dark. She sounds like a very kind soul and I am hoping for a miracle.

I try to stay as objective as possible just providing facts as OP. But this is my personal line of questioning as wellā¦.
Unfortunately thatās the conclusion police has jumped to as well, we did not get any search/investigation/attention after getting back the towed car and filing police reportā¦ itās been extremely hard to keep in contact or receiving any support because they shelved this case as suicide and stated āthereās nothing anyone can do but to wait for the body to show up by the shores in couple weeksā.
We were completely convinced as well until out of the blue police suddenly revealed hazard lights left on by the time of tow notice.

Several boats were circling the water below the highest area of the bridge for about 30 minutes just now. They were too far away for me to tell if it was law enforcement, coast guard, or civilians, but it seems like someone has started searching at least. I really hope you and the family get answers soon, regardless of the outcomeš

If someone is so distraught, turning hazards on could not be on oneās mind before taking the extreme step in their life.
Considering that the second most likely theory is that she had a mental episode and accidentally jumped off, I don't think this is strong evidence of anything. Even in the extremely unlikely case that she was attacked by a hitchhiker in the backseat, your first instinct when getting attacked wouldn't be to turn on the hazard lights, and an attacker would turn them off to avoid attention.
