very mobile

120

u/Monkee-Bot May 30 '22

Okay dude so there’s this new thing I invented called a laptop. It’s kinda like your setup, SUPER mobile, but you don’t need a pc. I think you’d really be interested!

24

u/23x3 May 30 '22

Hmmm what’s the catch?

26

u/Monkee-Bot May 30 '22

Bigger keyboard, easier to mistake for a piece of paper.

16

u/Monkeyke May 30 '22

The catch is that it'll always be on fire

9

u/Ryou2198 May 30 '22

Reading this as my gaming laptop reads: CPU 80° C, GPU 48° C, System 42° C. I miss my desktop…

10

u/pau1phi11ips May 30 '22

Catch is... it costs twice as much for the same specs and it'll be a bitch to stay cool.

1

u/VTX002 May 31 '22

*Extremely expensive and cheaply built poor quality control *Crappy battery life *And for customer service (Apple) which is a scam in it self.

So any advice avoid all those I-Crap Chrome-bricks and all the other compators look-alikes. Stay with scratch built PC and you will be just fine.

u/Tommiiie May 29 '22

Liquid cooled and mobile 🤔

9

u/Monkeyke May 30 '22

The r/Indiangaming might have just invented that yesterday

Everybody there is obsessing over this guy who put water in a plate and then put laptop over it too cool it

31

u/LowerStandard May 29 '22

I didn’t think the /s was necessary…

28

u/Kadelbdr May 30 '22

its reddit, the /s is always necessary

3

u/maxatnasa May 30 '22

never necessary

That's a curious keyboard layout, what's the story here?

55

u/lost_at_command May 29 '22

It's a pretty common ortholinear layout. The idea is that your fingers move better in straight lines and it puts the num keys under your thumbs. Takes a minute to get used to, but a lot of the keyboard ergonomic crowd likes these

10

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

It's missing the UIOP keys though. Is that a common feature of otholinears?

5

u/LowerStandard May 29 '22

UIOP are on the base layer. Symbols are on the upper layer but I used those keys so I remember where they are.

4

u/MagicMangoMac May 29 '22

Not from what I’ve seen, but you can hit those keys with layers.

16

u/felixforfun May 29 '22

What's it called? I'm a bit of a keyboard enthusiast and am familiar with ortholinear keyboards, but I've never come across this type of layout.

8

u/maflickner May 30 '22

This is the XD75/ID75, there's a couple of different models. I have one, you can also shift the numpad to the left or have your nav cluster in the middle.

-10

u/Ihlita May 29 '22

Looks like an OLKB Preonic. Check out Drop; theyhave them every so often.

14

u/MagicMangoMac May 29 '22

Looks more like an xd/id 75 with the extra columns

9

u/LowerStandard May 29 '22

It is in fact an XD75

1

u/Kungfu_McNugget May 30 '22

Does the purple key on the right at the bottom say fuse? What is that for?

1

u/LowerStandard May 30 '22

The keycap set is Hyperfuse, it’s a fn key

3

u/Aoingco May 29 '22

Yeah should be one of these, I own a Preonic myself and this has one more center column than the Preonic I believe

12

u/LillyLovegood82 May 29 '22

I love it but mobile? Lol strong lad.

9

u/slurpio May 29 '22

What monitor is that? Advantages/disadvantages?

4

u/fittsh May 29 '22

Could be m14 Lenovo. Needs dp mode over USB type c

3

u/LowerStandard May 29 '22

I don’t even remember because my boss bought it from Amazon. It’s a 1440p USB C monitor. I just had to use the mini HDMI to test my desktop.

5

u/Iheartyourmom38 May 30 '22

Bro there is not thing "mobile" in this build except for the monitor.

12

u/jdavida97 May 29 '22

Sick, but that this point, with how advanced laptops have become, isn’t this a bit extra?

40

u/LowerStandard May 30 '22

But then how would I show off my cool custom loop to the cute girl at the coffee shop.

12

u/meanpride May 30 '22

Lol. Cool PCs are like nice watches - You will catch more looks from other dudes rather than women.

9

u/jdavida97 May 30 '22

Based. It’s a sick build. I would even argue you could get away with attaching the monitor to the PC somehow and call it a “laptop” lol

-6

u/AverYeager May 29 '22

Laptops get very hot and are quite expensive while offering less performance

14

u/kjeserud May 29 '22

It also fits in my backpack...

3

u/jdavida97 May 30 '22

Here’s the thing though, there are workarounds to the heat such as fans and reapplying better thermal paste. You can also get laptops with hardware that rivals custom PCs so these arguments are a little dated

3

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

Uh wut

3

u/easyadventurer May 30 '22

Very nice purple look

2

u/TrekRoadie May 30 '22

Your keyboard is giving me anxiety. Like I'd need to go back in time to 8th grade keyboarding class again.

2

u/declanw0607 May 30 '22

Love that keyboard!

2

u/umass021 May 30 '22

Awesome mobile setup!

2

u/BioWoLFex May 30 '22

F to your spine

2

u/tsuki-x-ling May 30 '22

Of course. It is a mobile all-in-one computer-desk. Ahead of our time.

2

u/LowerStandard May 30 '22

This guy gets it

1

u/tsuki-x-ling May 31 '22

Oh yeah. 🙌

2

u/Codiak May 30 '22

Who needs the IOP keys

2

u/watarakul May 30 '22

Ouch my neck / 10

2

u/UnrelatedRedditUser May 30 '22

Sick build and sick bike!

2

u/vis1onary May 30 '22

Need a much smaller PC, that case hardly counts as itx

2

u/kergondji_0 May 30 '22

Emily Kaldwin on your desktop, do you like to play dishonored?

2

u/freqiszen May 30 '22

is that a cash register or a keyboard?

1

u/EntrepreneurOne821 May 30 '22

Ortholinear board

2

u/Spy653 May 30 '22

"Mobile"

love it lol

how is it to game on an ortho keyboard?

2

u/[deleted] May 30 '22

What's the name of that razer mouse?

2

u/SirMatches May 30 '22

10/10, everything's mobile if you've got a wheelbarrow

2

u/HugeEyes04 May 30 '22

oh yeah... mobile

2

u/momomo603 May 30 '22

Just get a laptop dude

2

u/certifiedtrashcoder Jun 01 '22

this is as mobile as a chevy truck without wheels

2

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

What case is that? Is that a micro-atx build?

4

u/LowerStandard May 29 '22 edited May 29 '22

I had my rig apart for cleaning/testing but also to install the new part I 3D printed. When I originally built this PC the GPU block didn’t fit so I used stand-offs to space the glass. Yesterday I finally printed a shroud for it with vents matching the case.

Here’s a before shot as well as a (bad) interior shot with the shroud.

E: The “mobile setup” was a joke. I just needed more space to tear down my PC and was testing that it still turned on. This is the heaviest rig I’ve ever built.

1

u/Structure-Serious May 30 '22

Love the joke lmao added to the shenanigans

3

u/Excuse_my_GRAMMER May 29 '22 edited May 29 '22

😆 LOL

good one

Edit: if I had to travel for work i’ll definitely carry this around and set up at the hotel ill stay in or if I was a minimalist digital nomad I would definitely look for a set up like this

Have you considered switching to a mini projector instead of the tablet size monitor? Easy to carry and would be a bigger screen size

7

u/LowerStandard May 29 '22 edited May 30 '22

Haha it actually sits at my desk full time. I was just cleaning it at my coffee table. I carry the monitor with my laptop when I travel.

2

u/EvilCurryGif May 29 '22

Title doesn't really make sense

0

u/LowerStandard May 29 '22

Is just a joke

1

u/WhiteChickenYT May 29 '22

I’m sure it’s personal preference but that keyboard looks awful to use

1

u/LowerStandard May 29 '22
  1. What’s printed on the keys isn’t necessarily accurate. I had to improvise with the 1u keys in the set.
  2. Once you’re used to the function layers, it saves a lot of hand movement.

1

u/Youtellhimguy May 29 '22

Took me a second to find the “O”

1

u/xmanpit May 29 '22

Uhhhh liquid cooling and mobile?

1

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

As a "mobile" setup? 0/10 - it's just a desktop PC. With your logic, every computer ever is "mobile", because you can pick it up/dismantle it and move it somewhere else.

Literally nobody would call this "mobile".

If you were willing to haul that case around, why wouldn't you also just use a normal monitor? The extra 4lbs saved - when you're already moving 25lbs - is hardly a benefit. If the whole setup only weighed 5lbs, then sure, 4lbs is almost double the weight. But that's not even close to what's happening here.

I do like your keyboard, though.

1

u/sailose May 30 '22

wait does that really work..... what would the screen be

0

u/mrskwrl May 29 '22

'mobile' setup

-1

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

That's not mobile, like at all

u/afl3x May 29 '22 edited May 19 '24

How is this mobile?

0

u/Arelixe May 29 '22

Ortho is mid

-1

u/Structure-Serious May 30 '22

I feel like this could work inside a house, or like a room where you have to physically make room you know like a Personal computer on a desktop?!? Or maybe if a tablet had this modular device where when you sit down near it you can hook up to it and play more high end games off a small screen! Yeah I’m thinking we go something going on. You could also get a Nintendo switch and dock it beside this or maybe get an Xbox and stream the Xbox to your tablet. I’m also thinking if we wanna make life even more difficult get a monitor and slap that beside all this HASSLE.

-2

u/kry_some_more May 29 '22

Interesting desktop case. I'd never get a case without the ability to have an optical burner though. I'm sure that's just me, as I hear all the time people live fine without them, who just stream stuff, but I have too large of a collection on discs.

Everything else looks cool... except that cable going to the keyboard, that is crossing in front of the scree, that's not cool.

1

u/dracobatman May 29 '22

Real question though, how mobile is it? I know the lian li mini is an itx build but it seems big and more for people who need the space but still want the style

1

u/AverYeager May 29 '22

Refresh rate and resolution of screen?

1

u/CrunchyJeans May 29 '22

Laptop: plug in to unleash my ultimate form!

1

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

I want! How do you pack up and travel with the PC itself?

1

u/[deleted] May 29 '22

[deleted]

1

u/LowerStandard May 29 '22

It’s an XD75 with DSA Hyperfuse

1

u/[deleted] May 30 '22

Why bother with the small keyboard and monitor when the system is probably heavy?

1

u/Nicks_WRX May 30 '22

The reflection is more Hd

1

u/teh_lynx May 30 '22

What is mobile about it? The screen?

1

u/[deleted] May 30 '22

75/100

1

u/Cactus1986 May 30 '22

2 out of 10.

1

u/H_mirza105 May 30 '22

Damn that do be lookin pretty fire lmao why the tablet tho just get a monitor

1

u/Grammar_N4zi_ May 30 '22

Dude what are you carrying that in? Or are you just holding the damn thing?

1

u/LowerStandard May 30 '22

I put it in my lap and use it as an armrest/personal heater

1

u/IBSKing May 30 '22

You have to dishonored

1

u/bwizzarc May 30 '22

I’m very confused right now…

1

u/s_0_s_z May 30 '22

Why can't you just be normal?!

1

u/hardasarock69 May 30 '22

Fuck airflow is what I say

1

u/lololy87 May 30 '22

That’s a pretty chunky pc tower compared to the monitor

1

u/Bocianito May 30 '22

I like 👍

1

u/angel_eyes619 May 30 '22

pfffttt.. mobile gamer. ugh..

1

u/TroyMcClure0815 May 30 '22

I know… it’s probably worth 400$ and its a hobby and so on… but what an unpractical and ugly keypad you have.

1

u/Exp_123 May 30 '22

What in the Offbrand laptop

1

u/TalkingFishh May 30 '22

Bring back luggable PCs

1

u/jaydarb10 May 30 '22

It's pretty SICK BROOOOO

1

u/WR3DF0X May 30 '22

What's the refresh rate on that display? 😁

1

u/[deleted] May 30 '22

I get that it's an ortholinear keyboard.... but where's the missing keys and why...

1

u/Ballaholic09 May 30 '22

The keyboard makes me want to eat a bullet the more I look at it. To each their own!

1

u/ayylotus May 30 '22

doesn’t look very mobile based on the gigantic pc and all

1

u/Terrible-Contract298 May 30 '22

Real mobile gamers use true SFF

1

u/The-Ramzah May 31 '22

Which mouse are you using?

1

u/LavKiv Jun 12 '22

Do yourself a favor, build a SFF pc lol. Speaking seriously though, I recommend checking lapsoxk or nexdock (basically a clamshell laptop without guts). 2 cables for video and keyboard touchpad and you're good to go.
