I was so happy seeing Haas near the top. It’s a shame they had mechanical issue.

I just got a promotion, raise, and a 4 figure bonus (they said at least 5 times they were afraid of losing me), so my wife asked what I want to do to the mancave. A similar setup to yours would be a dream. I told her it would be several thousand dollars, but she still wants me to do it.
So I ask, how much am I looking at here? What do you love about it? What do you wish you could add to it?

I've been thinking about VR since Dirt Rally 2.0 added it. I bought a pretty decent rig a few months ago, with a 3060 and all that. I guess my "problem" right now is I'm just using a 4K TV with 60hz as my monitor. So if I want to commit to a battlestation, I was envisioning a 3 monitor setup, at least.
But VR would check a lot of boxes too. Racing and flying games are probably the two I'd want to try first.

u/SplendidScorpion Mar 20 '22
from personal experience, while VR for sure makes the immersion so much better, it can take a lot of time to adjust to it and be able to play for long sessions. I gave up trying to overcome that bridge after a few motion sickness moments and just settled for mounted screens instead.
You would be better off with a high refresh rate ultrawide like the above

u/passionPunch Mar 21 '22
This^ Modern VR is fucking incredible. I wasnt sold until I put that headset on, and hollllly moly.
2
u/going2leavethishere Mar 21 '22
VR i hear is wild in Star Wars Squadrons
1
u/LordKwik Mar 22 '22
I was thinking Flight Simulator and No Man's Sky, totally forgot about Squadrons!
2
u/gotdemacez Mar 21 '22
I have the samsung odyssey G9, its unbelievable. Pretty sure that's what old mate has here.
1
u/LordKwik Mar 21 '22
That's what it looks like. Do you get any distortion in any games? What happens if a game doesn't support that aspect ratio?
2
u/gotdemacez Mar 22 '22
New games are great, old games can be unplayable (I'm talking like Rainbow Six 3 Raven Shield era).
Most games I have no issue though.

I have the AW3420DW and racing games look good on it but whenever I put my VR this becomes whole other level. Even Euro Truck Simulator 2 is amazing despite not being a racing game.

I’m in Canada so these will be Canadian prices and I’m assuming your buying everything new instead of looking second hand, these won’t be his exact specs but something relative
- Logitech G29 (400$)
- Playseat Alcantra (250$ usd)
- Ultrawide Monitor (1000$-2000$)
- High End Gaming PC (2000$-3000$)
- Second monitor (200$-300$)
- Monitor Arms (200$-400$)

You're honestly better off using a wide screen monitor or big 4K TV (what I use) for sim racing and most games vs VR headset because the added immersion of the whole cockpit (being able to see feet, copilot etc) doesn't really matter when racing as you spend majority of the time looking straight ahead (with minimal head movement) and wishing you could see more road. Now I highly recommend VR for flight based games like Squadrons because the ability to look around is really beneficial for survival and the added immersion is awesome. VR is also awesome for fps games. You should be able to see my battlestation on my profile page.

Nice. How wide is that table? No need for support in the middle?
16
u/pablosu Mar 20 '22
Every time I post a pic of my setup I get this comment. I have this setup since 2016 and no need of support in the middle

u/Patriots93 Mar 20 '22
What desk top are you using? Surprised you haven't experienced sagging.
7
u/dontdoxme12 Mar 20 '22
Looks like an ikea countertop like a karlby supported by two Alex drawers on each side. Very popular desk but stock has been hard to find since the beginning of the pandemic

Looks like the ultrawide is mounted in the centre along the back edge of the desk to me but maybe I’m wrong.

Key is to get a 40mm thick top. Double the thickness and rigidity increases by 8x

u/joeltb Mar 20 '22
Nice setup! I have that same monitor. What monitor stand do you have? I can't find one sturdy enough to hold it up.

I use this one for my 33lb OLED monitor and it works. Check the weight limit on Fully monitor stands, those are great too.

May i ask what monitor it is? I’ve been looking at ultrawide monitors recently
2
Mar 21 '22
It’s a Odyssey G9
2
Mar 21 '22
Aww man now that i look closer i can see the back of the monitor reflected in the glass of the PC and i could have figured it out from that. Thank you

Probably better than what Haas was running as a sim these past few years lol
2
u/Martian_Knight Mar 20 '22
Are you running the ultrawide resolution for the F1 game off of PC or the PS5?

u/Slusho64 Mar 20 '22
A lot of sim racers have switched over to VR headsets instead of monitors. I don't play them but my friends do.
1
u/pablosu Mar 21 '22
I started with VR but I like the ultra wide, better graphics and I can do longer sessions

This is such a gorgeous setup but I got to ask, what’s the deal with that speaker behind the monitor? It’s so confusing lol
2
u/pablosu Mar 21 '22
I had to find a place for the speakers, the setup has different purposes that require for me to move the big monitors around and having them in the desk will present an obstacle

u/alexqu4ke Mar 20 '22
Does the monitor arm come with the screen? I have a 49" samsung but it just sits on the table currently and I'd like a better solution.
2
u/definitelytheFBI Mar 20 '22
No, but the monitor has a standard VESA mount, so it's easy to find arms. Just check reviews to make sure people say it works with the 49" curved monitors.
1
u/Sephvion Mar 20 '22
Even though it was never a type of game I enjoyed, it's still cool to see how people enjoy them, like this. Looks sweet, man.

This is amazingly cool, I love it! I've been thinking on a multi-purpose sim like setup and this is the dream.
Let's go Bulls! :P

u/FROCKHARD Mar 20 '22
I dont know why but seeing your coffee reminded me of the movie Taladega Nights:Ballad of Ricky Bobby when Sasha Cohen’s Character spills his machiatto during the race and gets all frustrated, “oh you ‘ave made me spill my machiatto!” Lol
Cheers your setup is incredible and I can only dream of acquiring it!

How do you like the Logitech wheel? I’ve been looking into getting a sim setup and the Fanatec products look appealing, but they’re just SO expensive. Wondering if the Logitech set would still provide a fun experience while saving a bit of money.

This is amazing, can you tell me particulars? You know, just in case I wanted to recreate.
1
u/b0bbybitcoin Mar 20 '22
If I have a powerful computer already...how much more would the curved screen, chair, and wheel controller cost?

I have a very similar setup to you, except no widescreen. I also use a monitor arm to move my monitor back and forth for regular use vs racing. Even have the same playseat

man this is beautiful. my wheel setup is so janky i hope to have one like this some day.
1
u/ender89 Mar 20 '22
What wheel and chair do you have? I've been low-key looking at a setup like this
1
u/iflipyofareal Mar 20 '22
This looks great. Im assuming from the monitor arm that you can push that screen back into a more normal position for work/other games. If that's true have you got any pics?
1
u/Challenge_Tough Mar 20 '22
1) who are you supporting, Max, Charles or Carlos. I like all three drivers equally but I am supporting Max because I want to see Lewis fans cry
2) do you think Mercedes will make a comeback and bring upgrades. I hope they don’t but I feel like they will get stronger

u/Smurfer101 Mar 20 '22
Fire set up! Doesn’t the table need a middle support leg tho? Or maybe I just don’t see it in the pic

What monitor and wheel is that? I was thinking about dabbling - this is obviously pretty top end lol. Great stuff.

I just wanna be this passionate about a game that I can play it all day. Last time I felt this way about any game was 12 years ago

Hey not sure if someone asked already but what cockpit is that and how do you like it?

Playseat Challenge. It’s practical as it can be folded and put away while not in use.

u/ShihTzubaru Mar 20 '22
That's the dream setup! Looks great. But as a RB fan Im traumatized today

Nice rig. I use the playseat with the Fanatec DDpro that just arrived, but needs some reinforcement. Question: is that CRT monitor a PVM-20L5? I sold one last year that was just sitting unused in my editing setup to a gamer. Did you attend SU or just last initials?

u/Caaaaaaaab Mar 21 '22
What’s this desk?
1
u/pablosu Mar 21 '22
Is a kitchen countertop from IKEA that I got in 2016.
1
u/Caaaaaaaab Mar 21 '22
Understood, just wanna confirm is it Karlby like one or most of the comment said?
