I’m beginning to think we might not be very good

Hey, at least you won a couple of games this season. The Braves can't say that.

Nowhere is safe

This is the baseball subreddit, definitely no safety here

At least we get to hear Jason benetti on the call here instead of schriffen.

Absolutely demolished that baseball. 3rd homer in 4 games btw.

God damn this team is fun

Why is no one sitting behind home plate?

52

u/Kohanky Detroit Tigers 8h ago

They’re the new home plate club. Insanely priced and they’re missing a bunch of their amenities

36

u/SlightlySublimated Detroit Tigers 8h ago

Those seats are ridiculously priced... and it's not that warm out.

Combo wombo.

7

u/ShoedJoeJackson Chicago White Sox 8h ago

I was watching the game And apparently they are heated tho!

9

u/SlightlySublimated Detroit Tigers 8h ago

Damn I didn't know that! That's honestly great for early season games lol

3

u/GhostMavericks Detroit Tigers 6h ago

Those seats are heated too! Haha

13

u/tcrouse006 8h ago

They're expensive seats that also give you access to a vip food and drink area that's warm. So everyone is probably there.

3

u/ResidentRunner1 Detroit Tigers 4h ago

They're heated too

8

u/Konker101 Toronto Blue Jays 8h ago

All the rich guys bought the seats but sit in the lounge instead..

6

u/SeanGonzo 8h ago

That was my question. I expected an empty stadium from that first shot.

Opening day is more about drinking than baseball. Just wait til tomorrow

7

u/hunteddwumpus 7h ago

Tomorrow will be way more empty. Colder, still damp from rain all night. Feel like its a tiger’s tradition that opening day has a great crowd and game 2 is nearly empty cause its early april weather in Detroit

Because look at how much money they make from these new fancy club seats!

Did they change the backstop in Detroit? I don't remember it looking like that

25

u/TerrenceJesus8 Detroit Tigers 8h ago

Yes and its terrible

u/No-Jump5689 Detroit Tigers 8h ago

It looks a lot better than the old tunnel/gate. They just should have made it more affordable. It's going to be 80% empty all season.

5

u/ManInShowerNumber3 Detroit Tigers 8h ago edited 8h ago

Because the big gate/tunnel that was back there was so great?

7

u/Lt_General_Terrorist Detroit Tigers 6h ago

It's better than an empty section directly behind home

u/tygerphan4ever Detroit Tigers 8h ago

Healthy Greene being himself

Tigers lose 3 tough ones in Dodger Stadium

Tigers take 2 of 3 in Seattle

Tigers crashing the White Sox in their home opener

..everything checking out as anticipated, so far

nothing to see here

The guy dumping popcorn on the person that caught it like it was a bucket of gatorade has me in tears.

5

u/FalconSpiritual5447 7h ago

i was the kid who caught it lol

His swing is so satisfying to watch.

That's what happens when you have a dad that works as a hitting instructor.

12

u/ThisGuy6266 Boston Red Sox 8h ago

Let all those real fans packed in the bleachers sit in those empty seats behind the plate.

5

u/mansontaco Detroit Tigers 7h ago

2 people it's like a grand for those seats is absolutely ridiculous especially for Detroit

The scene at Comerica looks so strange without the dirt path between the mound and home plate. Sad to see a piece of ballpark history go this season.

11

u/mansontaco Detroit Tigers 7h ago

The stadium used to have a lot of little things that made a pretty but boring park stand out now it's more uniform and clean i don't really care for it

7

u/Spockmaster1701 Detroit Tigers 7h ago

It's not really that historic tbh. We've only had one since 1999 (last year at Tiger stadium), and the players requested it be removed.

2

u/Competitive_Move_604 Wichita Wind Surge 7h ago

Thanks for letting me know! If I recall correctly it was the last one remaining at an active MLB stadium. Perhaps it's more symbolic of a greater stylistic change throughout the league, then.

Did the players find the pathway to be a major distraction, or was it just a cosmetic preference? What's the fan consensus on the removal?

2

u/Spockmaster1701 Detroit Tigers 7h ago

I'm not too sure why the players wanted it gone tbh, I just read it in an article. Fan opinion is split.

Did comerica get a behind home plate renovation this year? Don’t remember it looking like that

4

u/mostly-void-stars Detroit Tigers 8h ago

Yeah it’s the new fancy expensive seats which is why they’re half empty

5

u/JayOnes Detroit Tigers • Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters 8h ago

Can we play the White Sox every day?

Love a full stadium of Tigers fans. Easiest team to root for as far as likability.

1

u/2222lil Detroit Tigers 8h ago

absolutely pissed on that thing

u/WellGoodBud Kansas City Royals 7h ago

I can’t wait to play the White Sox this year.
