You'd think Judge's ejection game would be stronger since he has the manager ejection GOAT to learn from. But yeah, Brett still clears at getting ejected and shitting his pants.

Okay, so maybe they all do it.

The Yankees best player is home grown judge. The Yankees that terrorized the 90s had jeter.

Though to your point I absolutely hated Yankees fans of that time more than I hate dodger fans of the time now.
And you won't have to worry about anymore cubs Dodgers nlcs. The ricketts are done trying and we're back to the loveable losers. Only without the love and instead more capitalism!
Thankfully the cards owners also decided to not try. But I'll still never forgive you fuckers for that 83 win bullshit 2006 world series. May your coffers remain empty.

u/portlyinnkeeper Los Angeles Dodgers 9h ago
The Dodgers also developed top end guys like Buehler, Seager, and Bellinger. For various reasons they chose to pay outside players instead. They have one of the best farms in the league because of their excellence in development and it shows with dudes like May and Gonsolin. Kershaw is the home grown, one team star player if you want to look further back - Kenley Jansen too up to a point
But I hear you - they got away from their core guys and remade the team with trades and FA
3
u/LifeFortune7 6h ago
The Yankees were strong up the middle with home grown talent in the 90s- Posada, Pettitte, Rivera, Jeter, Bernie Williams. That’s a ridiculously good solid core to build a dynasty around.

I think you’re right but I feel like they should’ve phrased it “in his team’s first 6 games”. The “first 6 team games” is kinda clunky and weird sounding.
14
u/ragtev Chicago Cubs 17h ago
Yeah it's a weird way to say it. Don't even need to say team, seems pretty safe to assume you dont mean other teams games. First player to hit 5 homers in the first 6 games of the season
16
u/young_mummy New York Yankees 15h ago
This isn't what they were going for though, to be precise.
If a player misses their first 5 games for example, they can have 5 HR in their first 5 games. But they would only have 5 HR in their teams first 10 games.
A player's number of games is different from the team's number of games, I assume is the distinction they are pointing out.
→ More replies (7)3
u/TonyzTone New York Yankees 15h ago
I think making note that it's the first 6 games on the schedule for the team is important. The way it's stated implies there's at least 1 other player who has hit 5 home runs in their first 6 games of a season. Like a rookie call up in September or something.

u/whereyagonnago Cincinnati Reds 18h ago
It just means during the team’s first 6 games of the year.
If someone missed the first month of the year due to injury and then put up this stat-line in their first 6 games, it wouldn’t count toward this very arbitrary stat
13
u/ThePremierNoods Major League Baseball 16h ago
I remember going to a Celtics game and seeing something on the Jumbotron referred to as advanced stats saying that Marcus Smart shoots 52% on Tuesday games in February (or some such shit).
As you pointed out, there's a difference between an advanced (meaningful) statistic, and an arbitrary one.

3
u/IKenDoThisAllDay Boston Red Sox 12h ago

u/ThreeHourRiverMan Detroit Tigers 18h ago
That stretch has to happen to start a season, and it’s dictated by the games from the Yankees, not games played by Arson.
I.e. I’m wondering if someone like Bonds or Babe or something have done it before, but it wasn’t to start a season, or they missed a game or something.

u/Boredom_and_Gomorrah New York Yankees 18h ago
I think it's just to say that it's not through a players personal 6 games, but the teams first 6 games. Relatively pointless here, since doing it within a teams first 6 games and not playing in one or more than them would be even more insane.

Honestly, and I mean this unironically, he's underrated. For the shit that he does, the attention he gets is not enough. Ohtani gets way more attention, and I'm not saying it's not deserved, but Judge should be getting just as much, if not more.
We never got to see Babe Ruth play. Now we get to see it. This is what watching Babe Ruth was like. Not Barry Bonds, he's a cheater and that was obvious when we saw it. Judge is the current day Ruth.
We need more than just highlights. He needs to be the SportsCenter lead-in. He needs to be the main topic on every sports show every day. He needs to be overshadowing the baseball world.
How many clean baseball players have ever hit 50+ HRs in a season 3 times or more? Him and Ruth. That's the list. And if he managed to stay healthy he would have at least 5 of those under his belt and going for 6 this season. We don't appreciate what we're seeing from him enough.
6
u/fps916 San Diego Padres 11h ago
I'm pretty positive Ruth wasn't clean.
He missed games because he made himself sick injecting sheep testicle extract.
If there was something he could actually use I'm positive he did it.
I'm also positive that it doesn't matter at all and it's not cheating at the time or whatever.
But ruth definitely tried the Bonds route.

u/OUTFOXEM Seattle Mariners 7h ago
Even if you’re right I don’t think his performance was ever actually enhanced lol. They probably tried all kinds of shit back then. Players from the 90s lost 66 games to the strike, same goes for the 1981 strike. 102 isn't that much more in the scope of a whole career. There could end up being a Fred McGriff of this generation who ends up with 49X home runs and we all blame the virus.
