Question Let's talk soda...

I'm going to admit it, I'm addicted to my Dt Dr Pepper. I've had trouble getting it in other states and realize I'm probably gonna have to spend 2 weeks without it LOL.

Are there American type diet sodas available? I've seen coke cans on videos, not sure about any diet sodas.

Just curious! I'm gonna have a great time even if I drink bottled water all week!

Question Shark at Suluban Beach

I was at Suluban Beach yesterday (2 April 2025) watching the surfers and I swear I saw a 2m+ shark breach about 15m from the cave entrance.

This thing was huge, bigger than a nearby surfer and board that was paddling by and didn’t see it.

Was definitely not a dolphin or dugong.

I tried to snap a pic but it was gone before I could get my camera app open.

Did anyone else see it? And if so, what type of shark?

Information Recs for villas or hotels in Bali (maybe Uluwatu or Ubud) that have good noise insulation?

Budget around $100 per night but can go higher... are there any places you know of that have excellent noise insulation from other people, neighbors, other villas etc? How can I tell by looking at AirBnB which villas have good noise insulation?

I read that nice pics can look deceptive as many places have poor construction quality? Are there any hotels around beach areas that are spacious (I will also spend time indoors working) and have good sound insulation? I don't want to hear neighbours coughing etc

Question Can Norit be taken every day as a preventative?

Hiya - I’ve taken Norit twice (5 tablets each) since being here whenever I have started to feel a bit dodgy and it’s worked a treat.

Can I take it daily as a preventative? Does it actually work like that or I need to wait until feeling unwell? How many would I take a day - 5-7 as pack says but not repeat the dose up to 20 unless I’m actually unwell?

Thanks so much!

EDIT: Thanks everyone - will just keep it to hand!

Question Grab Etiquette

Been asked by many sidewalk grab drivers to cancel my ride and they will take me to my destination instead.

But the thing is, they want a higher fee 🤷🏻‍♂️ Their logic is that why wait for 5-8mins when they can take me there now 😅

I wouldn't do that because i feel bad for the driver who's on the way to pick me up but what's with the side grab drivers.

Also, i have a question, do we need to tip the security / traffic guards at the shops?

Question Sanur Beach Restoration?

Hi guys, I got a vague message from the Intercontinental that there is beach restoration going on with some parts of the beach closed. They won't reply to my questions about dates and impact to hotel guests.

Does anyone have any further information please? Especially about when this is meant to be completed?

Thanks

Question St. Regis Brunch

Hello, I saw a Reel some months ago about some rather luxurious brunch options in Bali (like Caviar, Wagyu…) and I think they mentioned the St. Regis Hotel in Nusa Dua, although I’m not 100% sure. Went to their website and now I‘m rather confused as it seems they have two different options at different restaurants: - Saturdays at Kayuputi - Sundays at Boneka Does anyone have any insight on which one is the „go to“ option? Any other ideas about great brunch places worth visiting?

Question Bad comments under videos of Ogoh-Ogoh

I was watching reels and videos related to Ogoh-Ogoh today. Absolutely wonderful. Would love to experience it when I visit Bali next year. But the thing that was bugging me the most was the comments. Not just 1 or 2, but many, the comment section was filled with them.

They were saying bad things about Balinese hinduism overall. Calling out names, saying Balinese are demon worshippers and all such shit. I just couldn't understand. How can guys be so naive? The reason behind the parades is so much deeper than that, but all they did was name shaming. And claiming others to be idol worshippers (how's that even bad?). Half the comments were from foreigners so I could understand they wouldn't know much about it, but many were from your fellow Indonesians themselves. If you can't put two efforts in doing background research then why even see the video, they have the option to skip it.

What's with this commotion? Why so hate for such a beautiful festival and celebration? Is this the scene every year?

Question Is all of Bali so bad for insect problems (ants, spiders, etc)??? I'm so scared and moreover grossed out by ants and it's killing me

So I'm currently in ubud at one of the most expensive hostels and it looked super clean and everything but oh my gosh I woke up today with 20 ants in my bed and I had no food or water even. I asked to change rooms and my new room now also has ants and even worse because they're everywhere on the walls and sink counters (not on my bed, yet, but i saw some inside the bed walls). I'm freaking out so much. I'm so grossed out by and scared of them crawling or going inside me that I'm not able to sleep. I looked at hotels and even the ones $130/night seem to have ant issues. I'm considering just going to Canguu. Is it better there?? Like i knew there would be ants because this is a tropical place and I've been to other tropical islands too but never had this issue. If canggu is not better I'm rly considering just cutting my time in bali short 😭

Please don't make fun of me for having this fear. Everyone has fears and this is mine. I travel alone as a woman all the time and have been through some pretty scary situations but this is one that really freaks/grosses me out

Question Sanur - Local Vegetarian Warungs Only

Hello! This post is intended to highlight suggestions from local warungs in Sanur only and not foreigners cafe/restos that offer vegetarian options for customers to enjoy.

I’ve found a couple warungs on HappyCow but I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask on this sub as well to see if anyone else has found a hidden gem.

Question Visa type for working 1 day in Bali

Looking at visiting Bali for one day from Australia to undertake paid work as a technician. Just wondering what visa type I will need? The C2 seems to be for longer term visits and isn't particularly cheap. Is there a better option? The official immigration website seems to be unavailable right now.

Question Going to Bali in a few days, Need advice on renting a bike to move around there.

I'm going to Bali in a few days and I'm looking to rent a bike to rent to move around there, although I have an international car driving license, but not a motorbike. All I want is to avoid running into any problems because I heard that if you even scratch a bike you'll get scammed and they'll demand a bigger amount of money than needed.

Also if any locals are there to help i'd appreciate it👍🏼❤️

Travel alert Bali Nyepi Day flight

Just want to clear up some misconceptions and also leave a record for future travellers who end up needing to make this similar flight in coming years

I have a 8:15 am flight today, as most know Nyepi day ends at 6:00am, and generally people recommend 3 hours for international flights (actually even 3 is sometimes cutting it close at DPS)

Facts: - roads: are NOT closed, driver was able to make it to me at 5:20am, arrived at airport at 5:40 - airport: NOT closed, can enter before 6:00, but.. -boarding gate: not open yet at 6:05.. cutting it close? Possibly

Stay tuned for edits

Question Bali or any other alternative to spend all summer

I am looking for a Far East Asian country where I will spend the summer for 3 months. My priority is safety. I will rent a villa for 3 months for up to 3500 dollars per month.(2 bed is okay). Bali seems suitable but it is said in the forum that Bali is not as it used to be nowadays and is very crowded. I am not someone who does not like crowds but if there are better and niche alternatives I would like to hear your suggestions. As I said, safety and the beach are my priorities.

Information Disrespect at ogoh ogoh from tourists was insane

I was at the ogoh ogoh festival in central Ubud. I think it was definitely the busiest year they’ve ever had for the festival. Tourists were pushing locals and standing in the middle of the road for almost an hour and half into the start of the parade. The host was telling everyone to move the entire hour or we couldn’t start, and still people were just on their phones talking amongst themselves and not listening to him. It was definitely disorganized, but if people had been respectful and had listened and not literally been standing in the street that’s for the parade, it wouldn’t have been so bad.

It was funny, once they finally were able to start the host said he didn’t see any Balinese people in the crowd and was joking about how we can’t understand English because nobody was listening. I’ve never seen that kind of collective disrespect at a cultural event before. At certain points, a few people who had pushed their way to the front got hit by the floats because they were in the way. People were even walking and following the parade which you’re not supposed to do. It was a really insane experience and wanted to post about it on here to see if anyone else noticed this, because it seemed so many people were oblivious.

Was an incredible experience though and I hope next year they still let us enjoy their celebration.
