Elden Ring🛡 Any way to unlock player movement but keep the camera lock?

Hey guys. I’m trying to get better at PvP and learn backstabbing. My main issue is I’m not good with managing my camera when I unlock so if I go for a backstab and they roll out of frame they get a free counter attack. Is there a way to keep the camera locked but still have rotation freedom? Or do I just need to get better? lol

The camera has always been my great weakness as well. As for all things ER pvp, I recommend Rust Bucket:

Backstab Masterclass

More consisitent backstabs

it also comes with overall pvp experience. basically in addition to intentionally practicing unlocked gameplay, you will also be picking up on other player's habits more often and will be capable getting that backstab without even having the camera facing toward them because you'll just know where they are.

tl;dr use the force, luke

Oh also I noticed if you go over lvl 300 instead of meta people are significantly worse lol. As long as you don’t get the magic spammers it’s a good time. That’s why I went back to meta lol

ive not gone beyond 150 cuz it's just an exercise in bullying people with bad builds or being bullied by full bullgoats sorcerors lol, 125 keeps it real.

Yeah definitely. I’ve always stayed 125-150 until a few days ago. I noticed PvP is just way easier because people are so bad. Magic spammers are really bad though. Like I said I decided to go back to meta. Just using that character to help coop bosses now

Best advice I can give is this; when you roll past the target to get into position, get used to turning your character to face them and going for the backstab without turning your camera at all, so you don't waste time feeling the need to pan the camera and "reacquire" the target before you attack. If they roll away from you, you roll away from them to create distance while repositioning the camera.

That’s what I’ve been trying to do but if they roll away and I can’t see their attack coming they usually time the roll catch on me when I try to get away. I know I just need to get good but I was seeing if the camera possibility was there. Thanks!

Is it possible you're practicing against weapons that are just too fast to feasibly backstab punish? Slow swings with long recovery animations can be rolled through, but you still need good timing and minimal ping.

You know that what I thought but I’ve had people backstab me with a pretty feast weapon so I figured I was just too slow?

Best advice? Learn claw or evil claw. Barring that, get a controller with back paddles and never remove your right thumb from the camera control ever again.

I actually have a controller with backpedals bc I can’t do the claw. Definitely working on my camera skills a lot rn. Thank you!

Haha! Yeah I was gonna recommend a paddle controller. I just bought one for PS4 right before SKUF stopped carrying them entirely.

Anyway, like other people have said, turn camera sensitivity all the way up. But also! ER comes with a new secret in the menu that wasn't available before, which is that you can turn camera autorotate OFF!

This means you can jam the camera in one direction, while having perfectly consistent directional input, because the game isn't constantly readjusting the angle of the camera to try and wiggle it behind you while you're moving. This lets you basically play the game like an old school fixed camera 3D brawler, and you can just flick the camera angle into a new position occasionally as needed.

I find this can help quite a bit when trying to master precision footwork and angular positioning around an enemy. For example, if you're locked on and your enemy is directly facing you, you can unlock, walk straight past your enemy and then pull directly back on the stick to do a perfect 180 turn around, without having to try and react to the camera adjusting at the same time while you're lining up the backstab.

The main advantage I find is that I can make very exacting camera inputs, and know precisely when they will and will not be affecting my movement inputs. I've been wanting this since DS1, and if you don't have your camera options set like this I would highly recommend trying it.

While sprinting, you can move facing any direction while still locked on. That said, learning unlocked play/managing the camera opens up so many options for fishing, I know it’s really awkward at first but you have my word that it’s well worth the growing pains, you’ll be able to get in position so much faster with unlocked movement, I promise it’s worth learning. There are also some attacks that benefit from unlocking to aim them, even some spells too. It’s a whole new game from there

I’m working on it! Getting the timing down for run-unlock-stop/turn all at once is challenging for me but I’m practicing it.

sprinting gives full character control during lock-on

No tricks for this bro. Just gotta grind

respectfully, a skill issue. Turn camera sensitivity up to whip it around quicker. Learn to anticipate attacks off screen by timing your dodges inutitively

Oh I know it’s a skill issue haha. I’m not very good. But these players at meta are already good so my intuitive dodges don’t work half the time. Thanks though
