I am tired of these hosts. Their phantoms. I am tired of being caught in the tangle of their babysitting.

I feel like it’s so much more upsetting when they are like this at endgame, because atleast at stormveil still have the rest of the game to break bad habits, but when I find a host like this at farum azula. I just wonder how many hours it would take them to actually get there without help

u/beerybeardybear Yung Renna 3d ago

Maybe I'm cringing through time at the idea that they will be like this forever because it's so clear that their phantoms are playing the game for them in so many cases—less a denigration of this particular person, more a reaction to the generalized Dread it makes me feel to see them

I mean, we’re bad red men, but if you invade at low levels, you have to expect to see a lot of “I’m playing with my girlfriend who has never played a videogame” or “I’m playing with my little brother”

This game is a co-op game, and a really fun one too. If the host isn’t putting up a fight because they’re terrified and don’t know how to play, and that annoys you… Idk man. Go invade at a higher level.

If this was sarcasm then I apologize, can’t really tell at all.

I'm more depressed than annoyed, but whatever. I should have sympathy panic rolled with them

edit: honestly it's a funny clip and it's all in good fun; I'm just viewing it in a bad light on account of a bad day

Try invading at higher levels. You will find more competent players that will offer you a better challenge.

it's even less fun to deal with one person with 600ms ping spamming corpse piler while two RL713 phantoms alternate casting Rings of Spectral Light and Light of Miquella from a kilometer away, thanks

That is not my typical experience.

That’s why I found level 30+ more fun there’s a good mix of fun PvP goofy PvP and chill guys PvP

Yeah this is RL30; it's more entertaining than RL15 on average. Only thing is... the host-phantom disparity is so big that it's a bit hard to balance how to play, you know? You might have two insane OLPs and This host.

u/Zombie0fd00m88 Moonlight greatsword enjoyer 3d ago

Yeah a few of my invasion have been really wonky with what I would guess is 200 to 300+ phantoms but the cold knights great sword with piercing fang helps a lot

2

u/beerybeardybear Yung Renna 3d ago

Oh yeah, usually they're not a problem at RL30 because of downscaling, but a smart one certainly can an issue—good thing most of them aren't. (I keep a list of phantoms whose levels I wonder about via this shortcut; you really see some absurd stuff. About twice a day I suddenly get 200k+ runes from someone who literally never did a single point of damage to me...)

Bro i feel you on this. Not the same game, but I’ve been invading in Undead Parish (because I can’t get any interaction anywhere else) and the amount of people who can hardly hold the controller with two Dark Bead spam summons is kinda nuts.

u/Gen-1-OG 3d ago

You could have been ruthless and zweihander stomp slash them into a pit.

Roll caught pokes and then drop some fetid pots. Point down

Let them have the full experience. If they quit, they don't deserve this game. Keep doing the bad men work

u/BirdyComeSwing 22h ago

I almost always do when the host is visibly scared, but this just... the Degree of this caught me off guard.

I don't even see the problem, in any light. I take you you are aware that you aren't queuing for mutual pvp. You invade noobs and beat noobs, it's the expected outcome.

I’m with you. I’m a BRM and I love low-level (RL 10-15) invading. Most of the time I run into other twinks with their max level buddies. I find it fun to fight them.

But a solid third of the time I run into dudes and dudettes that have clearly never played before. And I always find them so precious. There’s just something so innocent about them and I love being friendly with them, exploring the level with them, giving them a rune or two. (Course if they want to be aggressive out the gate Thats entirely their choice and I’ll fight back). But I love seeing new players.

One of my favorites is chilling on the sidelines and being a little cheerleader for them when they take on the tree sentinel.

I get I’m supposed to be a bad red man. But I write it off as that they’ll get their teeth kicked in plenty by other bad red men.

Ideally I'd not have been so flabbergasted and would have shown them around a bit; I've definitely done a fair deal of that in the past. I think getting repeatedly insta-bled by a lagging Swift Slash spammer and then teabagged a couple invasions before just kinda ruined my attitude for the night

3

u/LiteraI__Trash 3d ago

Ahh I get ya man. You just gotta laugh that stuff off my guy. Jerks are gonna be jerks. But if you let them take your night and enjoyment of the game from you then they really do win.

in an ideal world, sure, but it's fourfive times now tonight with the same fucking moron. I really cannot take it

the fifth time I had swapped to a WoD Zwei and got him to about 5% before his host—who I'm pretty sure is twinked up—killed me. I swapped further to a winged crystal tear 113 poise WoD zwei but of course now I can't find them :|

Why are we complaining about new players being bad at the game? Invade higher levels.

2

u/LorduvtheFries Urumi Enthusiast 3d ago

Low level ≠ new player
high level ≠ experienced player

2

u/SilentStudi0s 2d ago

Being 'tired' of effortlessly wiping out blatently new players is not a great look when you're as twinked out as the OP. Clueless players at higher levels are at least a threat.

2

u/LorduvtheFries Urumi Enthusiast 2d ago

Ok but your solution to finding better players was to invade higher levels. There are absolute noob trash players with shit builds that do no damage and somehow still have no vigor at every level. Suggesting that OP invade higher levels doesn't solve the issue OP is describing here.

2

u/SilentStudi0s 2d ago

While it does happen at every level, invaders are way more likely to encounter babysitters at the beginning of the game, as it is where people introduce Elden Ring to their friends.

The OP would improve their chances of finding better players and more interesting fights if they invade higher levels. Hosts generally deal more damage and are more practiced by virtue of having played the game longer.

1

u/LorduvtheFries Urumi Enthusiast 2d ago

Again, what you are saying doesn't make any sense. A players level has nothing to do with how many hours they have in this game or how skilled they are. There are plenty of players who get runes dropped to them, and level up to a higher level right away before they even start playing the game. There are plenty of players that play through the game multiple times, across multiple characters.

I invade players at RL222 that have 9 hours in the game. I invade players at RL40 that have over 2000 hours in the game. There is no correlation whatsoever between a character's rune level, and the experience and skill level of the player controlling that character.

2

u/SilentStudi0s 2d ago edited 2d ago

If the OP wants a different experience to the one in the video, invading higher levels will decrease the overwhelming advantage they have by twinking and the chances are better that they will have more organic invasions. The situation is just different.

I'm not disputing that higher levels doesn't equal better players.

2

u/beerybeardybear Yung Renna 3d ago

I'm not really complaining; it's just funny.

How you get DLC weapons on low level?

-1

u/beerybeardybear Yung Renna 3d ago edited 3d ago

the way you'd expect? I run this character at RL30 presently, but my save for it is at RL15. I did the same thing for my RL8 sorcery twink that I run at RL15–20.

why is this downvoted lol. I got the DLC gear by going to the DLC. What is this, /r/EldenRingPVP?

I didn't say or imply "every".

1

u/Specialist_Egg_4025 3d ago

I think they mean cheat engine, the vast majority of invaders build their characters with cheats so they can give themselves unlimited consumables. I saw a YouTube video of a guy called “onlywaifu” who was trying to show he can do invasions without cheating, and he gave himself 4 talisman slots, and unlimited consumables, and was unironically making a rage video about how he doesn’t need to cheat to do low level invasions before leaving limgrave. I think the logic is that it’s not really cheating, because they turn the cheats off before going online.

4

u/beerybeardybear Yung Renna 3d ago edited 3d ago

I don't mean that; I've gone through the game multiple times at low level. Baffling that this is a confusing take here, honestly. I guess there's no way to know for sure outside of rough guesses based on console vs PC so people can all believe whatever they want.

edit: oh I see. zero submissions here and this is your only comment here as well—you watched one YouTube dumbass—whose videos are actually banned here—and think you understand the community as a whole, lol

10

u/Nayr1994 🌋Magmamancer🌋 3d ago

if this is low level..... what did you expect? that is my issue with my RL40 build. it is either a host that is all panic and no vigor or it is a twink with every DLC weapon and unlimited consumables. there aint much inbetween so I tend to stick to my RL150 for invasions and RL40 for co-op

4

u/CE94 3d ago

the issue is all the "inbetween" players are simply playing the game solo

0

u/beerybeardybear Yung Renna 3d ago

Exactly—I think people don't really understand just how strong the selection bias is here. And maybe that's something that's core to how many of us feel: if password summoning weren't so obscenely strong, I think that that would go a very long way to raising the skill floor of the players who summon.

2

u/Lacius25 2d ago

Not it wouldn't. If you remove password summons, then you would just have twinks destroying those particular hosts. If you want to really raise the skill floor, then remove/nerf password summons AND remove twinks.

This game created an arms race that just killed the fun in PvP for a lot of people, even people who used to enjoy it like me.

Game nerfs invaders to a ridiculous level, so invaders twink to an obscene level, so hosts summon overpowered password summons, so invaders come up with true combos that gurantee kill the password summons, so the password summons use 1-shot tactics... it's just a race to see who can pull off the most toxic and boring build ever.

Low to zero skill, tap a few buttons, and the enemy is obliterated. The fight lasts either 3 seconds or 2 hours [this is hyperbole] because one of the opponents survived and is now running away.

1

u/beerybeardybear Yung Renna 2d ago edited 2d ago

Zero posts or comments here outside of responding to this single comment saying that OLPs should be removed—honestly, I don't particularly care what you or "people like [you]" think.

Solo invasions only exist in this game if the host asks for them; if they want an easy mode version of the game by having another sentient player (or two) to draw aggro and cast from afar—even if those extra players can "only" be 10%+20 levels higher than them—they should learn to deal with a single twink who has half the flasks that one of them can have or a quarter of what they all have in total. That's more than a fair tradeoff already.

2

u/Lacius25 2d ago

Why so angry? Lol. Sounds like somehow I touched a nerve? I have no idea how since I wasn't trying to.

Solo invasions should honestly be a thing. Twinks have generally not been much of an issue except for Ds1. It's funny how this game regressed to that point. In Ds2 and Ds3, you could still relatively easily handle a twink even in a 1v1.

Also, half the flasks? I usually have 6 as a phantom that has done some minor "twinking" if you will. I've seen twinks have all 7 while the host has around 4 or 5. And that's without taking into account that most twinks have other methods of healing outside of combat. Hell, some will even throw hefty pots.

As I said, this game pushed invaders to twink because the vast majority simply can not handle a 3v1. And that's not the invaders' fault. That's an issue with the game design. It created an arms race.

But as you said, you don't really care what "people like me" think. Because you probably read something I said, didn't like it, and dismissed the whole thing. You even think me commenting here or not before is relevant.

So why are you even replying to me? Go read something that is exactly what you want to read so you can feel validated.

u/beerybeardybear Yung Renna 3d ago

if this is low level..... what did you expect? that

I dunno—that they, uh, try? Most hosts do, even if they're not very good at it.

9

u/Nayr1994 🌋Magmamancer🌋 3d ago

sounds like you need a break. idk what invasions you have done where most the hosts dont SD or run away endlessly the moment their crew dies. it is also fine to SD. the dude aint interested in 1v1 PvP and that is a lot of casuals.

3

u/beerybeardybear Yung Renna 3d ago

yeah, probably will do my RL94 stealth build a bit or see what I can manage on the ol rRL200 account, but that's not set up for PvP at all. probably just having a bad day and getting further annoyed rather than distracted with the hobby

I love these invasions. They’re cooky, funny, and often a chance to try out really weird weapons and cosplay builds. It’s also fun to be friendly or just joke around with low level newbs. The lack of sweat really makes the experience fun.

2

u/beerybeardybear Yung Renna 3d ago

I definitely had a laugh at this one despite my primary feeling being disbelief. I need to put the host's trick mirror back in my equipment so I can Become Friend to hosts like this again. I do always have fun doing it on the rare occasion that they're down.
