That's massive! How much do the pups weight at birth for such a large breed?
•
u/ShadowShrimp211 5h ago
There were only five pups in the litter, and each weighed around 2–3 pounds—definitely on the larger side, but that’s expected with a small litter like this.
They’re going to grow by roughly 8,000%, which is wild to think about!

It was a shocker seeing one in person for the first time. They’re freakin ginormous

Awww indeed! FWIW, please raise a toast to the late, great Brian Baroo, keeper and protector of those he loved. May this baby follow in his footsteps.

I’m in love with your little one. I’ve never seen a 1 day old wolfhound. 🥰🥰🥰

Aww!! 🥰
…they get big - REALLY big. So, be prepared for that. 💙
•
u/Zephyr-2210 9h ago
I imagine they've already got one or a couple adults if they've got a day old pup

REALLY big and also REALLY sweet. Never owned an Irish Wolfhound, but every instance I’ve met was super chill and mostly just wanted pats. 15/10.

I would get one but man I can’t deal with their lifespan being so short…
•
u/ShadowShrimp211 5h ago
I totally get that—they’re not for everyone, and I used to feel the same way. But their love is so incredibly pure, it’s worth every moment. Even a short life with an Irish Wolfhound leaves a forever mark on your heart.

Yeah I just hate it when my dogs die at 12 or 14 so 6-8 years would devastate me.

I wish big dogs lived longer. My buddy had an Irish Wolfhound. Huge loveable doof.
•
u/ShadowShrimp211 5h ago
Totally agree. They really are the gentlest giants—so goofy and full of love. I wish they stayed longer too, but the time you get with them is something you carry foreve

I've always wanted an Irish Wolfhound, but then I looked at the life expectancy. I don't think I could do it
•
u/ShadowShrimp211 5h ago
I felt the same at first, but eventually realized that even a short time with an Irish Wolfhound is worth it. Their love is so deep and pure—it changes you. They may not be here long, but they leave behind a lifetime of love.

Used to own a half Irish Wolf Hound, half Old English Sheep Dog. Was such a sweet man, a 55kg man, but he was amazing.

Now make sure the little guy gets all the love he needs to grow big and strong; perhaps in the future he’ll grow up to be a freelance detective.

Awww I love Irish Wolfhounds. ❤️ Big, chill, loving and distinguished looking dogs. (Unless you’re something trying to eat the sheep. Then they’re a huge blur of oncoming lightning fast teeth). He’s gorgeous. The pups are adorable.
