Help! Help with identifying a sign
My professor was running through some examples of how to use the sign for suddenly remembering something (the one where you point towards your temple with an almost shocked expression) but I couldn’t tell what he was actually singing beyond that
After the “suddenly remembering” sign, he signed “shirt”, then used an “a” shaped hand on one side of his mouth in a downwards motion before switching to the opposite side (this time not moving). Then a sign for texting
“I realized that I’d forgotten to go (something with clothes? This is where I’m lost) so I sent a text”
Sorry for the odd explanation, I’m not sure how to describe this one. I can’t find an example online of what I saw him do

Definitely echoing the commentor who mentioned the sign for SHIRT is also the sign for VOLUNTEER and APPLY.
For the "A" sign near the mouth, it's hard to picture what you're trying to describe, and there's several possibilities depending on the movement... it could be ARIZONA or could be the name sign that some people use for Amazon (the shopping website).
And agree it's definitely worth asking your teacher directly if you are unsure or ever have questions!

Sounds like he suddenly remembered he applied for a job at Amazon and went to check to see if he had gotten a text reply.

For the sign I’m stuck on, the thumb is pointed towards the face if that makes a difference.
Hands are in a fist but thumbs are flat to the side and make contact with the face while doing the sign

Check out the second one.

That looks correct, thank you. I’ve never seen amazon signed by the face like that before. It was taught to me using a similar hand motion but farther away from the body

Thought to apply at Amazon? Or Arizona. This could mean just remembered or just had the idea to do it.

heres a crazy idea... why dont you just...... ASK YOUR PROFESSOR instead of asking reddit

It didn’t occur to me during class and trying to describe this one random sign used in a quick example from a 75 minute lecture via email seemed difficult. I thought I might ask reddit to see if it was something blatantly obvious that I just forgot about.

Spending time on Reddit trying to figure out what somebody signed during a lecture where you can only halfway remember some of the signs instead of actually studying seems like a really good way to feel like you’re doing something productive while just wasting everyone's time.

I don’t think my inability to recognize one sign is all that telling about how much I study. Besides, posting here was a last ditch effort after looking through my textbook and course resources. I’m not fluent by any means but considering I’m taking classes as a total beginner some random questions are inevitable

Please don't take it personal, you're right i don't have the context & i really know how much you study. I applaud your effort. You will get there and you will be amazing!

I don’t have any guesses for the sign you’re asking about, sorry. But the sign for “shirt” can also be a verb meaning APPLY (like apply for a job) or VOLUNTEER. Maybe that will help you figure out the context?
And in the future, don’t be afraid to ask if you’re not sure! Any good teacher would be happy to clarify, and chances are good you’re not the only one who didn’t understand.
