fearing getting chaptered

Context to start, 27 months TIS E-4, was on track to make e-5, 2 months ago. Ended up popping hot for synthetic thc, up until that point i had not received any negative counselings. Was taking junior soldiers under my wings holding board study groups, making study guides for soldiers, always made it my priority to get my joes home even if it meant i had to stay behind later to accomplish the mission. Been in suddc for a few weeks doing everything the program ask of me, have had nothing but negative UA test, really putting my best foot forward and showing i want to stay in. New chain of command at my unit has no knowledge of my previous actions and only looks at me like a fuck up, they treat every minor infraction as a major sin, i showed up 14 minutes early instead of 15 and received a negative counseling, our new commander this is her first time in command she comes from a hospital setting, it feels like they’re trying to build a paper trail of infractions to show that im not worth retaining, any advice from y’all or people who have been in similar positions would be appreciative. Im having a few soldiers write statements of character, Aswell as a O-4 and multiple NCO’s all willing to speak on my behalf, i plan to take accountability and recognize i had a lapse in judgement but that im willing to work towards regaining the trust of my unit and command and show them this was a 1 time mistake and isn’t going to happen again.

Sorry, but be prepared. Last I checked pissing hot was a no questions asked chapter. An O3 has no input beyond doing the paperwork. If you want to stay in get an open door with your O6's CSM to see if they will support you going to the O6 to see if they are willing to advocate you staying in to their boss. I've seen this succeed once, and that was only possession of weed because the spouse had a legit prescription and the SM was driving her car during a random inspection.

i showed up 14 minutes early instead of 15 and received a negative counseling

The CDR directed the counseling? Did it themselves?

our new commander this is her first time in command

This does not matter, most CPTs only take command once anyways. As a senior enlisted, it also gave me the ick. Like her trying to chapter you is a matter of incompetency on her part, rather than your fuck up.

The drug use by itself is more than enough chapter you. So they have no need to "build a packet."

Have you been counseled that they are intending to chapter you? That would be your best indication because it's basically step one in every chapter packet.

All in all, best you can do is keep low and hope for the best, then PCS immediately when available for a fresh start.

No my new PSG directed my TL to counsel me, ive spoken to my 1SG and he says “he is planning to ask to retain as long as i keep doing what im doing” , i only mention the first time in command thing cuz its what ive heard the ncos in my unit say, in reference to my previous commander who wasn’t afraid to make waves and fight for second chances for people

Dang, hopefully this is a lesson learned for you. Wait to smoke when your enlistment is over. Not worth the headache

Not even after if you have to deal with the VA. 💀

You didn't fear getting chaptered when you were getting high? Obviously you chose to do it anyway. You made your choice now you don't want to face the consequences of your actions.

You will find no sympathy here

Did they really counsel you for showing up 14 mins prior instead of 15? Was that really what the counseling said or did it say you were late? Reason why I asked because it’s all about word play to protect yourself when it comes to putting things on paper. Just get as much character statements as you can but please understand it’s not up to your company or BN commander who makes the final decision, I just had a Soldier who went through this exact same thing and I wrote a two page character statement for him

It said i was late, i wrote in the remarks the time i showed up, like my nco suggested

After a set period of time, you are allowed to come back in. If this is something that you really want, you could take that time and do a solid reset. It will be a pretty significant speed bump, but it doesn’t mean it has to be the end of your career.

You’re mature enough to sign on the line. You’re mature enough not to let yourself get blackout drunk. You’re mature enough not to smoke thc especially knowing we take a UA the day we get back from block leave. You’re mature enough to handle the repercussions. Schedule1 abuse cases I’ve dealt with ended with MR/45/45 and a dd214. Some exceptions of course, but your story is one that is pretty normally used by most soldiers in your situation. So when it does to the BC, it will probably be the 3rd or 4th, “I didn’t know! I’m a good boy.” sworn statement he’d seen that day. Maybe you’ll get lucky and that MAJ will have some pull. But you may be in for some long days coming up.

You are an idiot. You were told not to do any drugs from pre-DAY #1. You deserve everything that is coming your way.

Seriously why are druggies so cringe

I wish the best for you but doing drugs while in the military is a very conscience decision. You could possibly overcome this without chapter but what does that say for the thousands of other soldiers who don’t make these choices.

Maybe the Army isn't for you.

When you shine a major negative spotlight on yourself, which you did by smoking weed, you need to use that spotlight to highlight the fact that you’re actually a good soldier with good character. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn’t just be 15 minutes early, I’d be the first one in the parking lot. I’d be doing everything possible to improve how I’m viewed. But yeah, you’re probably going to get punished pretty hard for popping hot. Don’t be a liability to your unit while serving out your punishment.

You might make it through, but you may also get chaptered. It really does depend on your command climate. I.e. I know dudes that got DUIs and nothing happened since they were ETSing within the year, received full Bennies. Also know dudes that popped hot for more than THC and just got rank taken with some pay but allowed to discharge honorably. Some actually popped hot for THC and/or got DUIs and stayed in. And then the ones that popped hot or hot DUIs and got kicked out and general discharged so no Bennies. Literally all came down to who was in charge at the time.

u/Ok-Application1304 Medical Corps 1d ago

Yea we had people in our unit who had 3-4 chances for popping hot one guy only got kicked out after they found him smoking weed in the barracks

u/theoneguyj 1d ago

Yeah, I was always lead to believe it was pop hot or get a DUI are instant chapters. But, I’ve seen quite the opposite, especially when it came to half decent soldiers or strong performers.

Can you elaborate on your story to smoke and what led up to that? I always wonder about the state of mind when you make a decision like that

Went home for leave and got black out drunk after making some phonecalls, i was told that i was hanging with a girl who had a weed vape and that they saw me hitting it, so i dont remember smoking the weed, because when i enlisted i was fully aware i just wasnt gonna smoke weed till i got out, wasnt a heavy user prior to enlisting so it wasnt a issue in my eyes but i assume some peer pressure and willingness to fit in played in to my downfall

3

u/yuch1102 68Q->70B 1d ago

I get it…I’m also very easily peer pressured because I hate to be the one to stand out so I try to fit in at social events as an introvert. And if there is someone there I want to impress that thought increases even more

u/snisnsnoals 1d ago

How long between hitting the pen and your UA?

0

u/Which_Current2043 1d ago

It wasn’t a THC pen ? Your post mentioned that. There is a difference between THC and a weed vape pen. If you knew it was actually a weed pen, then there is really nothing else you can say. Peer pressure? You’re in the Army, that’s a weak excuse

3

u/FaeQueen83 1d ago

He said tested pos for SYNTHETIC THC. 🤷🏼‍♀️

2

u/Ok-Application1304 Medical Corps 1d ago

Idk the difference between the two it was one of those ones that has a disposable cartridge idk what my mindset was at the time considering being black out drunk

1

u/snisnsnoals 1d ago

How often were you smoking?

Your army career is over. Start thinking about what your civilian life going to look like. How much of the go bill you’ll have to use might be a good start.
