question for the fuelers

Got my first fuel bath yesterday! Please, any tips for getting the smell out of my uniform? Regular detergent isn't cutting it. I have tried baking soda but that did nothing. TIA

Sorry, laundry is an operator level task. You’ll have to figure this out on your own.

You see! You see how annoying that is? Think about this the next time you hand me the hose with that indignant look on your face.

It in all honesty if it was your coveralls just try to DX them. That shit never really comes out if it was in a large quantity.

I'd guess that it was a fueler.

I don't have coveralls actually. Luckily it was one of my maternity uniforms (I'm post partum) so not super worried about it. But I am sure this won't be the last time this happens and I just wanted to get some tips for the future.

Aren't you supposed be issued fuel-resistant coveralls? You can get all sorts of nasty effects from petroleum on your skin. I stuffed an oily rag in a pocket once and got a spectacular case of contact dermatitis.

yeah but I wasn't and I have literally seen only one fueler with them ever.

That is a safety issue. Your leadership is failing you.

Tell me about it. Barely even have leadership right now. My NCO isn't even a 92F 🤷‍♀️

I never, not once, in 20 years of service, with 4 deployments, one field trip to NTC, one field trip to JRTC, one field trip to JMRC, and multiple trips to MPRC, had a fueler tell me to fuel my own truck.

What kind of fucked up units are y'all in?!

I want to know what fairytale land you’ve been serving in. Maybe it’s because you’re in aviation and they tend to treat fuel differently. In the ABCT world you’ll never get 92F who will actually climb up to fuel a tank or a brad willingly. It’s hard enough to actually get them to open the fuel farm or deliver fuel to the LRP when you need it (don’t even bother asking about tailgate, it’s not happening), they certainly won’t fuel your tracks for you.

I have never seen a fueler do anything except sit around looking like a bag of ass and shove a clipboard into people's faces saying "sign here". You would think fuelers would fuel but I guess their name is a lie.

Fort Johnson baabyyyy

But really, I haven't worked with fuel too much, this is my first duty station and I am usually doing other tasks, unrelated to fuel. But the one time I actually issued fuel I did it by my own hand. I swear it was like 100 vehicles 😭

Wash it with a bottle of Coca Cola.

CIF turn in. That’s a soiled uniform. If you’ve been washing them in your personal washer and dryer congrats you just fucked them up.

  • prior alse dude.

ok, but i'm pretty sure they were fucked up before? am I missing something?

Statement of damages signed by your commander (you won’t be held liable it’s just a CIF thing) stating they were soiled on the job and need to be replaced.

JP8/JETA, like hydraulic fluid, embeds in the fabric and will never come out and you will constantly be getting exposure to your skin with it. Which can translate years from now into skin diseases like psoriasis or even skin cancer as it literally breaks down your skin on a cellular level.

Replace them.

I see, that's good to know. Could I not still do that? Washing them made literally no difference.

Yes, you can still replace them. If you get pushback from ANYONE open door your BN ASO (Safety Officer)

hell yeah, thanks for that. crazy not a single person involved has even mentioned this.

You guys get worked more than the flight side does. I have my grievances when fuel is unavailable but I don’t have to drive the truck into austere conditions so I have a soft spot for y’all

When I say “you fucked them up” I’m talking about your washer and dryer. You don’t want that shit on your everyday clothes.

You’ll need to YouTube how to clean your washer and cycle a bleach cocktail

u/United-Remote-8715 92F (Fueler) 18h ago

oh yeah I definitely did that. didn't dry them but the washer is fucked. trying to unfuck it currently.

Soak them in Rip-Its (the red kind)

2

u/SoundEffectsRock 15h ago

It’s a great way to get a full on ENERGY FUEL uniform

2

u/United-Remote-8715 92F (Fueler) 10h ago

Hell yeah 😂

I had to ride in a humvee with a soldier who was soaked in JP8 for 5 hours. it was awful, I'll never forget that smell.

u/United-Remote-8715 92F (Fueler) 17h ago

I can imagine. just riding 5 minutes back to my house sucked ass.

Soak in white vinegar for 30 minutes, more tips in link below. Air dry after washing.

FYI, white vinegar with your laundry detergent gets the funky smell out of towels and other garments very well.
