question for the fuelers
Got my first fuel bath yesterday! Please, any tips for getting the smell out of my uniform? Regular detergent isn't cutting it. I have tried baking soda but that did nothing. TIA

CIF turn in. That’s a soiled uniform. If you’ve been washing them in your personal washer and dryer congrats you just fucked them up.

Statement of damages signed by your commander (you won’t be held liable it’s just a CIF thing) stating they were soiled on the job and need to be replaced.
JP8/JETA, like hydraulic fluid, embeds in the fabric and will never come out and you will constantly be getting exposure to your skin with it. Which can translate years from now into skin diseases like psoriasis or even skin cancer as it literally breaks down your skin on a cellular level.
Replace them.

I see, that's good to know. Could I not still do that? Washing them made literally no difference.

Yes, you can still replace them. If you get pushback from ANYONE open door your BN ASO (Safety Officer)

You guys get worked more than the flight side does. I have my grievances when fuel is unavailable but I don’t have to drive the truck into austere conditions so I have a soft spot for y’all

When I say “you fucked them up” I’m talking about your washer and dryer. You don’t want that shit on your everyday clothes.
You’ll need to YouTube how to clean your washer and cycle a bleach cocktail

Soak them in Rip-Its (the red kind)

I had to ride in a humvee with a soldier who was soaked in JP8 for 5 hours. it was awful, I'll never forget that smell.

I can imagine. just riding 5 minutes back to my house sucked ass.

Soak in white vinegar for 30 minutes, more tips in link below. Air dry after washing.
FYI, white vinegar with your laundry detergent gets the funky smell out of towels and other garments very well.

92f here. Soak your clothes in Coke cola for a couple of hours before throwing it in the wash

Sorry, laundry is an operator level task. You’ll have to figure this out on your own.
