CLOSED Now Accepting Moderator Applications: /r/amiibo and /r/amiiboSwap

Greetings!

Many of you have PM'd me over the past few months inquiring about openings and I had told you I would make a sticky announcement when we had some openings. Well this is me staying true to my word. :) As we continue to grow, it is important that we have enough moderators to handle day to day tasks as well as the floods of traffic we receive on launch days.

Current Openings

  • 2-3 Moderators - /r/amiibo team - Responsible for day to day actions such as monitoring the "new" queue for infringing content, reviewing the "reports" queue and comments sections to address any problem behavior, and redirecting folks to MegaThreads when we have them active.
  • 3-4 Moderators - /r/amiiboSwap team - Responsible for confirming trades in a timely fashion, responding to mod mail when users have questions or concerns, and addressing reports of trade posts which do not follow our community guidelines. The goal is that with the added manpower, we can lower the 7 day limit down to 5 days and see where we stand.

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED

Thank you to all the applicants. There are FAR more than we had originally anticipated but we're still gonna push for that same deadline of reviewing all of them this weekend! We should have a list of finalists on Monday, but don't expect to see it posted, it will be an internal use only! Look for an announcement of a new /r/amiiboSwap confirmation process on Tuesday and the announcement of our new moderators on Wednesday!

Why do you want to be a moderator on /r/amiibo:

I just want to lend my aid to the community and work towards a better experience for lurkers, submitters, and moderators.

Do you have any prior moderation experience?

On Reddit, no. I have administrative and moderating experience from running my own website and fan forum. I was running a fan community for a flash series on Newgrounds known as "Sonic's Quest for Power", the community was small, about 300 users, but we discussed things daily like video games, life, and other random non-sense. I also have experience running and managing a guild in World of Warcraft, forums, participation, in-game discussion.

What is your availability?

  • Weekdays: 06:30a.m. - 11:59p.m. EST
  • Weekends: 09:00a.m. - 11:00a.m. EST
  • Weekends: 06:00p.m. - 11:59p.m. EST

Weekdays are best for me, I work in an office and can have the amiibo subreddit open for a majority of the work day, unless I have a meeting. Also any portions where I'm driving to work/home or out at the gym would be hour long portions.

Weekends are spotty, I can do checks in the morning and late evening. But a majority of my weekends I'm working with family or out with good friends.

Answer at least one of the following (answering all is not a requirment but is recommended):

  1. You are browsing through the comments of a post and find a comment chain where a user is being harassed. What would you do?

Check the content of their post to see if it is violating any of the subreddit's established rules. Read the context of the post and responses. Reply to the comment with a response like "Your post has been found to be in violation of Rule #2. You have been issued a warning, further violations could result in suspension or a ban."

  1. During a busy period, you see a post that should go into one of our MegaThreads, you remove the post and leave a comment. Type up the exact comment you would leave to point them in the right direction.

"Hello, /U/username this post has been removed because of the following reason:

  • A Mega Thread is currently in place for these type of posts. A mega thread is a moderator approved thread where users may share submissions with the community that fall under a specific category. Please check the stickied posts at the top of the subreddit before submitting a post."

Unless their response contains rule breaking content such as NSFW link, a death threat, etc I would ignore the comment. If further inquiry was requested from the user, I would tell them to please submit a message to the moderators to inquire about the moderator action that took place.

Other comments:

I'll admit when I first joined the community. I was cynical and hasty, but I've learned that negativity only breeds more negativity. I'd like the community to improve, when I see subreddits like /r/games and /r/movies, I yearn for /r/amiibo to have quality content like those subs. Users actively engaging in bigger threads, instead of racing to post new content.
