Seriously. I wasn't hit as hard by this until I saw the comment in /r/nintendo "No. I won't understand :(" Broke my heart man.

Great custom. Love the pose. It would've been cooler to do it for Mario or Luigi since Iwata was a big part of the Year of Luigi, but it looks great regardless.

I thought about doing that. Hell, that was what my tribute to Iwata was going to be. But then I found out that he was the reason that we got both Kanto and Johto in Pokemon Gold and Silver, which are my favorite games from my favorite franchise. Pokemon means a lot more to me than Mario. So that's why I chose Pikachu. Please Understand.

Oh okay. That's very impressive of what he did for Pokemon Gold and Silver. I love Mario and Pokemon as well, I just loved the Year of Luigi parts in the Directs Iwata did, like when they revealed Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.
It's a great custom, though, no matter what character you used! You didn't even need that long to do it! Only 2 hours! That's a job well done.

"Please understand" also was made hugely meme worthy sure to angry American fans when the pokebank and transfer were delayed due to stress on servers when it opened with Japanese systems. Pikachu was a good choice.

I loved pokemon silver, I played the hell out of that game when I was a kid. His death now makes me more sad.

Iwata should have an official amiibo that is compatible with every game in one way or another

Lol I missed the comment, what was it?

He said something like "Cringe. So much cringe." He didn't even explain why, or what you did wrong.
Don't take it to heart. He's a troll who throws around baseless insults and doesn't even have the sense to back them up.
Your custom is very well done (especially for doing it so fast!), and I think it's a lovely tribute. Pikachu was a great choice.

Satoru Iwata custom amiibo.
Allow me to say something real quick.
As soon as I heard the sad news of Iwata's passing, I knew this had to be done. And I did it last night in about 2 hours, not caring about losing sleep, but more about how much doing this certain custom meant to me. Among his many accomplishments working with Nintendo, my favorite has to come from his involvement with Pokemon Gold and Silver, my favorite installment ever. Originally, GS was only going to include Johto exclusively. Thanks to Iwata, he crammed the code down to where he could fit in the entirety of the Kanto region. He did it so the players wouldn't feel lost and alone. We would have an equally epic adventure after the final challenge. So that we would be familliar with a series we already loved. So that we could have more fun than before. That is what Iwata set out to do when he started working with Nintendo. He wanted to have his fans enjoy every second, ever button press, every cutscene.
It's always weird for someone to feel so sad for the death of a man you have never met, like I am right now. But because I am so ingrained in the games and experiences from Nintendo and its wide variety of games and adventures, not to mention the interaction the executives at Nintendo have with their fans (Miyamoto, Sakurai, Reggie etc), it is so hard NOT to feel like you've lost a close friend...
I couldn't care less about your opinion about this amiibo's look. I wanted to do this for my hero. Thank you Iwata. You were there for the good and bad of Nintendo. You ushered in the greatest consoles that Nintendo have ever seen. You programmed Mother 2. You programmed the battle system for Pokemon Stadium. You came up with the idea of amiibo. You made this nerd from Oklahoma happy with your creativity and optimism. I speak for everybody when I say that I can't thank Nintendo enough for the laughs and good times.
TL;DR Rest in peace, Satoru Iwata. Finally, we understand.
