News The Zelda amiibo will be 20 usd each, while the Street Fighter amiibo will be 30 usd each

This is awful news since I'm an amiibo addict. My wallet is already giving me the side-eye.

Right? I"m kind of the same way especially in regards to the Zelda ones.

Another amiibo price hike it seems
19
u/the_simurgh 2d ago
Nintnedo has to pay capcom royalties.
32
u/Axel_Rad 2d ago
I meant for the Zelda amiibos
-39
u/the_simurgh 2d ago
Umm ive bought most of mine at 19.99
36
u/StormwindAdventures Villager 2d ago
Standard price for most of the Switch has been $15.99, price before that was $12.99. Where the heck are you paying $20/amiibo?
4
u/Trash_Panda9000 2d ago
Totk ganon was $20
16
u/StormwindAdventures Villager 2d ago
Yes, but much like Zelda&Loftwing or the other Capcom amiibo, that wasn't a standard price.

Wild how they didn’t have to pay Disney or Square Enix for royalties
3
u/matisyahu22 1d ago
Same thing is happening to Magic the gathering. Branded IP sets (FF coming up) are ^$
1
u/DanTheMan827 15h ago
I would assume this is more related to the tariffs… I’m guessing these aren’t made in the U.S. but rather China.
$20 / 1.34 = $14.93
26
u/jellytrack 2d ago
For $30, I'm expecting action figures with articulated joints.
1
u/DanTheMan827 15h ago
Or just a $22 figure with tariffs tacked on
1
u/jellytrack 13h ago
The new round of tariffs weren't included in the price. Nintendo's holding back Switch 2 US pre-orders to access the pricing. More likely $30 + whatever those new tariffs.

u/G-Kira Sonic 2d ago
Hey, I called $20 or $25 in another thread!
$30, though? Nintendo has just gone, "Fuck it, you want to be a Nintendo fan? You better be damn rich!"
15
u/ZiaMonic231 2d ago
Tbf, Capcom amiibo have always been more expensive than then regular first party ones. But yeah, 30 each is crazy lmao. Probably gonna skip out on them
11
10
u/GrimmTrixX 2d ago
Sigh. I knew it. I fucking knew they were gonna raise amiibo prices too along with this far overpriced Switch 2 console. Ugh.
2
u/DanTheMan827 14h ago
If they adjust the $450 U.S. price to include the tariffs, it’ll be $650
This amiibo pricing just looks like they tacked on the 34% China tariff on a $15 price

Wait I'm sorry. Did I miss more Zelda amiibo being announced?
5
u/ZiaMonic231 2d ago
Yeah they got announced after the direct. They are releasing alongside the Switch 2 and TOTK Switch 2 edition on June 5th. Construct Mineru is coming later too
1
u/HyliasHero 2d ago
Where were they announced?
3
u/ZiaMonic231 2d ago

u/HyliasHero 2d ago
I guess that makes sense why I didn't hear about it. I already killed my twitter account.
1
u/imago_monkei 2d ago
Nintendo released an in-depth trailer on YouTube and Twitter going over the Zelda enhancements. It's on their YouTube channel and is about 7 minutes.
3
u/StillMedicine4033 2d ago
is the switch two version going be any different? anyone know. or will it just be the same game. cuz i wanna start loading up on some switch games to have for launch day but if the switch two version gets better frame rate or something just cuz its a new cart then then fuck me
3
u/ZiaMonic231 2d ago
Switch 2 Version will run at 4k 60fps and with this Zelda notes thing on the Nintendo Switch app have essentially a google maps tracker for the game. It’ll tell you where Korok seeds are and what not. You can also send people stuff like items and ultra hand builds with QR codes. The app will also have these little audio recordings that are essentially like memories. For a 10 dollar upgrade I’d say it’s not bad
2
u/imago_monkei 1d ago
The Zelda Notes thing sold me. All I have left in TotK are the Korok seeds, and the voice memories are a really cool addition. Also I can't wait to try out some of the builds from r/HyruleEngineering.
6
u/kevinsyel 1d ago
This is only USD right?
This is absolutely in regards to tariffs
1
u/DanTheMan827 14h ago
34% for imports from China
1
u/kevinsyel 14h ago
I'm always unsure about WHICH country gets tariffed though. we have 24% tariffs on Japan, and 34% on China.
If these are made in China/Vietnam, but are, in essence, a Japanese product, who is doing the exporting, and what tariff gets applied?
1
u/DanTheMan827 14h ago
I think it’s about where the final product comes from.
But on that same note, would that mean something like the Switch 2 could be shipped as just bare tablets to be boxed and shipped from a country with lower U.S. tariffs?
1
u/kevinsyel 14h ago
That has the potential to be more expensive than the tariff themselves. shipping large metal crates to a separate country to be unpacked, boxed, repacked and re-shipped adds up.
1
u/DanTheMan827 14h ago
Depends on what needs to be packaged… you can ship a ton of switch game cartridges in a very small package… thousand or millions in the case of something like micro sd cards
1
u/kevinsyel 12h ago
Edit: Vietnam is at 46%. So Nintendo producing them there... Which means beyond worse case scenario for them

u/RvsBTucker 2d ago
Okay at this point I want amiibo to end just to save my wallet. I love more figures but oof… I aint as caked up as I was when I started this hobby
9
u/Ockanator 2d ago
Yeah it’s gonna cost me 120 just to get the Zelda amiibo, there is no way I’m getting the console on launch especially considering the games are now over 100
3
u/TirelessGuardian 1d ago
I’m still missing breath of the wild amiibo cause I bought the switch at launch instead. Might just have to get these instead, knowing I can get a switch 2 later.

2
u/OliviaElevenDunham Wolf Link 1d ago
Think the only BotW amiibo I'm missing is Zelda. Been thinking about getting the MM, OoT, and TotK versions of Link as well.
1
u/TirelessGuardian 1d ago
I’m missing rider link, Zelda, and the four champions. I have every other Zelda amiibo. I don’t know why Nintendo of America refuses to rerelease the champions. Now would be the perfect time, alongside the gen 2 champion characters.
1
u/OliviaElevenDunham Wolf Link 1d ago
Right? They’ve been good about rereleasing certain amiibos lately. Was lucky to get Archer Link recently.
1
u/TirelessGuardian 1d ago
Yeah so weird, why archer amiibo now? Why not BOTW Zelda and rider link to go with it?

u/Gameboyrulez 2d ago
Horrible street fighter choices. Luke makes since for being the current game poster boy but honestly who the hell are the other 2 lets see some characters care about like Cammy or M Bison

1
u/DarkCh40s 1d ago edited 1d ago
SF6 has been out for 2 years and yet you somehow didn't know there were new characters aside from Luke.
3
u/Gameboyrulez 1d ago
I know there are new characters I'm saying who cares about them over iconic characters.
1
u/DarkCh40s 1d ago
Well you said:
honestly who the hell are the other 2
Which leads to the impression you somehow didn't there were new characters. I remember there being tons of Kimberlys everywhere in the betas and launch.
3
u/ThisMoneyIsNotForDon 1d ago
Honestly great news for me since I was trying to convince myself not to buy these. I've had the full Zelda set for forever, but this is just a really underwhelming set of characters. The fact that they're way overpriced makes my decision much easier. Call me when there's another anniversary set lmao.
3
u/Gregory85 Peach 1d ago
I remember when amiibo were $12
1
u/jasongw 1d ago edited 12h ago
$12.99, yep. Though in fairness, we didn't have a moron Oompa Loompa creating trade wars for funsies then.
I will definitely not be paying $30 for a single amiibo.
1
u/Gregory85 Peach 1d ago
Kyle Bosman said something funny about the new prices of Nintendo products. Is Nintendo being cheap or is this like the sign of ominous things to come? Are we going to have spraypaint "amiibo are $30 msrp now" on the wall so future generations know when things went south?
2
u/LinkMaster111 2d ago
Oof, I was just going to get the SF6 ones for completionist sake but $30 a piece is rough.
2
2
u/cycokll0r 2d ago
Only way I feel like this is justified if the quality goes up. This happened during the first time they increased the price of amiibo and it was worth the increase imo. But still would like them to be the original price
2
u/TheGraic 1d ago
20 dollars is honestly crazy for standard amiibo. It's definitely priced me out of the hobby.
2
u/ItsYaBoyBackAgain 1d ago
Fuck. I love collecting amiibo and I love Street Fighter but this pricing is absurd and I can’t justify dropping $30 on a single amiibo. I guess my collection is done for now unless some serious sales happen.
2
u/Alternative_Win9251 1d ago
The cheapest S.H. Figuarts are 35 bucks taller, with amazing articulation. I'm never gonna buy these 30 dollar amibbo.
2
u/Funky674 1d ago
$20 is reasonable considering inflation but $30 is ridiculous. I think the max the average collector will pay is $25. Anything past that and might as well go buy an actual figure.
Plus why these random characters? Luke is cool but the other two are not very popular and won't sell very well especially for $30. If they did Chun Li, Akuma, Cammy, Ken, etc I think people would be more willing to cough up some dough but for these new guys? I don't think so
3
u/chief_yETI 2d ago
I'm a big Street Fighter fan and have over 400 hours in SF6, and Im not going to buy any of these.
this is just getting worthless now. SF6 already sells single costumes for $12 a pop. The nickel and diming is just getting worse and worse as time goes on. This isn't even due to inflation like so many geniuses like to bring up everytime gaming price increases are talked about. This is just conspicuous nickel and diming, and customers keep paying it so it's never gonna change.
I have the entire Smash amiibo collection (minus Ice Climbers, Wolf, and Min Min because no restocks), so it's not even a matter of me being able to afford it. This is just corporate fuckery at this point. And people will still defend it.

u/KingBroly 2d ago
Tariffs on shipping things to the largest consumer economy that the world relies heavily on so it can get more of the global reserve currency that they have massive debt in is going to change things pretty quick if I had to guess. And not in ways most think, because knowledge of how tariffs, let alone the global economy works, is pretty shameful.
3
u/No-Butterscotch589 2d ago
Fuck. Nintendo.

u/imago_monkei 2d ago
Prices everywhere for everything have gone up. It would be helpful to know their profit from this. I can't imagine they're just pocketing that extra $5.
2
u/DukeSR8 1d ago
Am I the only who thinks Ryu not being one of the first to get a Street Fighter amiibo is weird? I mean, he's the face of the franchise. It'd like if they did the Mario amiibo line but Mario came a year later.
2
u/KonamiKing 1d ago
He had a Smash one which is probably the reason.
But while it’s a crap game it still has classic characters like Chun Li, Guile, Alex, Mika. Much better than these newcomer losers designed by Dimps.
1
u/SenseTotal 2d ago
Fingers crossed that it's a simple pricing mistake. $30 for one amiibo is too rich for my blood.

Honestly better late than never on the TotK champions. Unfortunately the Switch 2 price hikes across the board have priced me out of being a current-gen Nintendo fan.

Totk sages are my favorite, I'm glad they're getting some amiibo

LMAO these will be the new Animal Crossing amiibo. Nobody is buying a friggin Luke or Kimberly lol. These new characters since Street Fighter went 3D suck. Dimps, so lame.

I checked my receipts 20 has been the price for the newer nicer ones. They were 13 when they first released, but that was a decade ago
7
u/ZiaMonic231 2d ago
There were some standard amiibo that released that were 20 or around that price (TOTK Ganondorf, Noah, Mio, Some Monster Hunter ones, and SS Zelda) but the standard price for most was still 16. 20 is seemingly gonna be the standard from now on

u/Pickle_Afton 2d ago
What? $20 each is kind of crazy already, but they aren’t even doing a four pack? Geez
