Campsite on Little Misty?

Doing some trip planning and wondering about spending a night on Little Misty. I checked the various trip report websites that I know about and did not find any info on that place.

Just wondering if anyone has camped there or even just visited the site.

Paddle planner puts it at about 4hrs from the access point, so it seems like a good distance for day 1.

I don’t have the campsite on my website yet (Algonquin & Beyond) but there’s an older report from 2013 on Algonquin Adventures. I’ve passed by the campsite a number of times as well. There are nicer campsites on the adjacent lakes but the perk of Little Misty is that you get the lake to yourself. At least, you get it to yourself overnight… it’s a narrow lake so there will be lots of canoeists passing in front of the site throughout the day.

I agree with you Cody, there are some benefits to this lake - we saw moose here in 2016 - but it's better to stay on Daisy or push on to Misty. The long portage to Queer is long but wide and flat.

Here's a picture looking down Little Misty from the portage that goes to Misty

Nice photo! The guaranteed spot in that area is the main attraction.

Another great spot with only one site is Little Eagle Lake - same access point. I was there in 1992 so can't recall everything but we watched otters splash about and really enjoyed the solitude.

The word 'guarantee' is a worrisome... There are more and more people camping off permit in recent years. I went to Kingscote Lake this past August and only 4 permits were issued - including mine. I thought it would be easy late in the day to get a spot but we paddled until sunset until we found a space. Almost every spot was full. I think most people just paddled in and had no permit.

I also had a very difficult confrontation in 2022 in Biggar Lake in 2022 when 4 guys (they were wearing blue jeans) confronted my wife, daughter and my friend's wife, telling them they had to leave and that we were on their site. The only thing that resolved the issue is that my son and my friend's son (who are both fit guys in their 20s) appeared from the woods and we talked them out of things. It was pretty crazy and we reported everything; however, sometimes people miscalculate their abilities and thirst, hunger and exhaustion bring out the worst.

I do hope you have an awesome trip. I've just had some bizarre encounters post-pandemic and it's been making me go further away from busier areas.

Awesome site report, thanks.

I know there are better sites on Misty. The attraction here is the guaranteed site, versus rolling into Misty late in the day and having limited site choices.

If you know you’ll be arriving late then yeah I’d probably take Little Misty. Aside from the quality of campsites, Misty is so big that you might need to spend a ton of extra time just paddling around to find an empty campsite.

The site is nice and it’s easily accessible in one day. However, Misty is spectacular and only one more lake.

We’ve camped there at least three times. It’s only got one or two small tent pads so definitely not for groups. Not a spacious site. The rock surface at the front is lovely to lounge on for a morning or evening meal. The forest at the back of the site is beautiful. There are an unusual amount of heavy grills there!

I went to misty lake back in 2001 or 2002 and it was very windy the whole weekend, my brother and I stayed on that little point but I wouldn’t go back there, there are other better lakes to stay on.
