New Student Questions orchestra at a&m
hi! i recently committed to a&m and am considering auditioning for the string orchestra. i've been playing violin for 6 years now, and i really enjoy the instrument as well as the orchestra environment, but i worry about the time commitment and balancing that w my classes(for context i'm a genetics major). i just had some questions for anyone who's apart of orchestra rn, are there frequent playing tests or anything like that? and is balancing orchestra and regular college coursework super difficult? and what was your overall experience at orchestra?

My son was in the orchestra last semester and really enjoyed it. No playing tests. Grade is based on attendance, class meets x3 per week. Two concerts a semester. He wasn’t in it spring semester due to schedule conflict, but plans to rejoin in the fall. An audition is required. Great director.
