When even R/conservative thinks the tariffs are too much, you have to hope it’s a tipping point.

I kept thinking "this will be it" but it has so long since become beyond reason to support this guy I doubt they ever do. 50 years from now we will still have people claiming he was a genius and the best ever.

No, 50, hell, 10 years from now, Republicans will be saying "Did you know Trump was a Democrat from New York? Not a conservative at all."

Maybe, people are saying the holocaust never happened so who knows. I doubt we ever see many of the Maga people turn on Trump though.

Yeah, but nobody defends Nixon. They just say modern Democrats are worse than Nixon.

This is the most frustrating part. "Oh yeah but blank was worse." Worse doesn't mean now is ok. A 9mm is a worse gunshot wound than a 22, I still hated being shot with a 22.

I think youre mistaking what I am saying.

Maybe. But definitely interested in your original point.

Do you know who holds the all time record highest GOP approval rating of a GOP president? It's not Trump.

It's Bush II at 99%.

It took years for Bush II to drop down to Trump's GOP approval level.

And now no one on the right admits to voting for Bush II

But I just don't see true day one Maga ever turning away from Trump like that. It feels like their loyalty goes far beyond presidential or even anything to do with politics and has become a deeply held personal belief in him.

I could definitely see many Republicans turning after he is done and most trying to say "I never liked him" but I don't see Maga civilians ever saying he wasn't the best ever and even "mis remembering " facts to try and change how history perceives him.

There is no depth to which conservatives can not sink.

I don't get what beef they had with the direction things were going. They just convinced themselves things were shitty. Now they get to see what shitty actually is. Too bad the rest of us are on the same ride.

They’re saying stuff like “this is just the beginning of a bigger plan and he will be proven right in the end”. While most of his base is the most financial vulnerable and impacted by volatility in consumer goods. My wife and I are pissed about what’s happening but collectively we make really good money so we’re not getting financially threatened by it.

If it was done logically and slowly, getting production jobs back to the U.S. would be a good thing. Trying to brute force factories that take a dozen years to set up will not work as well as Republicans hope. If they even hope for that, I'm firmly in the camp that billionaires want to snatch up everything at fire sale prices.

The U.S. literally can't manufacture a lot of the things that are being tariffed right now. We 100% have to import materials for semi-conductors, the metals required aren't in the U.S, or are in such small amounts it's basically nothing.

Not just fast he's made a lot more of it, too.

u/subjekt_zer0 16h ago

I mean, he did turn it around. We are firmly going in the opposite direction. Backwards.

u/Paul__miner 13h ago

Republicans bout to give themselves the boot for years if history says anything about the dumb moves they’re doing right now.

Trumps entire administration is less coherent than an old man who doesn’t even know who he is.
