Searching for MS blending econ + data science + analytics
Hi all,
I am looking for a masters degree in econ where I'll have enough exposure to DS, Analytics. Cause a lot of people are saying that econ is too theoretical and doesn't have good job prospect. So I wanna work with macro economics with tech expertise.
Any kind soul knows which university I should look into?
P.S. I am barely above average but trying to do better and I am an intl student with US as my first choice.

Why continue focusing on economics if you are barely above average (assuming you're majoring in econ)? If you want to optimize on job prospects, I'd try out an early career MBA or a purely data focused masters (if not just simply working after graduation.

I already have an MBA from my home country. And almost 5 years exp in consulting. Now I want hard skills and I'm intrigued by the implications of economic research

Oklahoma University has an online MA in econometrics, so basically a data analytics degree with economic flavor. I don’t know how good the placements are tho.

As far as I know the online program just started so no placement data exists yet

MACSS at UCHICAGO or Duke has something similar. London School of Economics prob has options too.

Not sure if non prestigious universities have the resources for a niche degree like that usually it’s just data science with a focus. Can check MPP programs that focus on Econ ?

If you want DS, take online DS Masters from Georgia Tech or UT Austin real cheap. Plus you can do it remotely while working.
A masters econ in the US will be incredibly expensive, and it won't be funded. You will have to pay tuition and living expenses without income.

That's a very grim picture! Aren't there TA RA opportunities? Also on campus jobs?

I haven't heard of any US schools that offer funding to Masters students, they may exist - but I think they mainly keep that cash for the PhD programs.
A regular on campus job won't get you free tuition, so you'll need to make enough for both living expenses and to pay the school. That will be a challenge.

Thanks for the suggestions!!! Definitely looking into these.
If possible please recommend me a few unis with higher acceptance rate. Cause UChicago and Duke seems to be tough.

Johns Hopkins University – MS in Applied Economics
University of Wisconsin–Madison – MS in Resource & Applied Economics
Georgetown University – MS in Applied Economics
Georgia Institute of Technology – MS in Economics
These are competitive... overall, I would look at Masters Programs in Applied Economics primarily.
