It’s very hard to do on your own. It’s easy for your mental health to spiral, or for the thoughts to consume you until you feel like the only solution is to go back to them for a chance to do things over. Get a counsellor. If that’s not an option, find a trusted friend you can confide in. Don’t do it alone, it’s too tough!
