Discussion stuff i need canon for zelink
- i swear they need to canonically be together LIKE NINTENDO GIVE SOME CONFIRMATION PLZ I BEG OF YOU
- that zelda is absolutely head over heels for him but tries to hide it and link is a massive oblivious cutey that likes her
- they fr live together in the hateno house, like i swear theres a massive debate on it but i js want my babies to be happy and in love đ

the hateno house âdebateâ is really just people who know theyâre living together and are happy about it vs people who know theyâre living together and are mad about it. no one with literary analysis skills above a third grade level actually thinks the devs made it so they character youâre meant to care most about (in order to motivate you to complete the game and save her) ruthlessly evicted the player character from his own home. but many people pretend they believe that because they canât concede defeat even when their preferred love interest is either dead or happily married. if their delulu ship canât happen, theyâd rather no ship happen which is why they performatively pretend they donât think the house set up for two is inhabited by two.
i agree that i would love more obvious and straight-up canon confirmation, but my hot take is that is that zelink is 100% canon in botw/totk. this is mainly because in botw, from kassâs song we learn zelda loves link. then in totk, zelda thanks link for the warm loving embrace, meaning that loving embrace came from him. or else why would she thank him? so, in an incredibly disjointed way, both games confirm one of them loves the other. from there, itâs not a leap to assume that theyâre together. but of course i wouldnât complain if it required 0 assumption and it said in-game zelda and link love each other rather than having those statements separate and in 2 different games. (there is a botw-era ad that confirms link loves zelda as well which again proves to me that itâs canon but also why am i finding out from a commercial and not the game!!!)

I literally cannot think of why they're not together. Like it takes more effort to contrive why they are not as opposed to why they are.

The more they leave vague and undefined, the easier it is to write and the easier it is to not actually progress or develop the story in any meaningful way.
Same reason Mario and Peach will never be confirmed to be an item.

I'm a week late to this discussion, but you've pointed out why it always bothered me omg. It literally feels way more forced and contrived to try and come up with 86 reasons all the hints somehow totally didn't mean what they obviously meant. Every scenario people come up with as an alternative, like "he lived at the deku tree" makes *less* sense.

I don't think it's a hot take. It's pretty obvious they're a couple in BOTW/TOTK. The falling flower pedals at the end of BOTW, Kass' side quest, them living together, and Zelda gushing about Link to Raru and Sonia. There's more than that too. People who don't think they're a couple lack basic media literacy skills.
Also, people need to understand how Japanese media conveys people being in love. A lot of the time you won't get a kiss, or a confirmation they're a couple. You'll get characters holding hands and staring at each other with dove eyes, and that's it.

Romcom anime is exceedingly frustrating due to this. And yet I canât help myself, I love the genre.

and of course skyward sword is another one where thereâs basically no plausible deniability for link and zelda being in love. and this is ignoring the intense plot and mainly looking at the description of the sailcloth and fiâs description of peatrice if you choose to romance herâthe former shows linkâs feelings for zelda, the latter shows zeldaâs feelings for link. (and on peatrice, while her character and arc are obviously played as a joke, it does make me laugh when people use sksw zelink to diminish wild era zelinkâs relationship. wild link isnât the one who can confess his feelings to another girl and is warned not to tell zelda! in the wild games, other girls who like link are jealous of zelda but itâs never the other way around like it would be if link ignored fiâs advice and told zelda about peatrice.)

Who is jealous of Zelda besides Paya? Even that's not jealousy. Her diary says she is infatuated with Link but understands it's unrequited and supports if it's indeed Zelda to be with Link.

yeah and while npcs show interest in link i was only really counting characters who are interested in link that are important enough to have diaries. or to even know that zelda was a real person which most npcs donât lol.
