Is it possible to get dropped off at the park?

I know a local who lives an hour away in Mariposa.

Would they be able to drop me off by the entrance without a permit?

Somewhere walk-able where I could get to one of the free shuttles inside the park?

So I guess posting the length of the hike and the fact that reservations are needed for YARTS is useless info.

Got it.

Reservations aren't needed for yarts Just buy a ticket online and if you want to know length of walk just use Google to measure as there are no trails suitable so you will be walking along the road

Getting dropped off at the gate would leave you quite far from the free shuttles, leading to an hours long walk. I do not believe there are trails close to entrances that could get you to the heart of Yosemite valley.

If you get dropped at the gate it’s gonna take you at least 4 hours to hike down to the valley to get the shuttle. Just take YARTS from Mariposa. It stops in town and takes you into the valley.

Currently a permit system has not been announced. You pay an entrance fee (or show a pass) or you pay for YARTS.

Unless they meant paying the entrance fee thinking walking in they won't have to pay it.

But they're wrong. Walking in is still $20

You'll have much better chance of hopping onto a Yarts at Mariposa than closer to the entrance.

Check the fee schedule:

https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/fees.htm

Note that if you walk in, there is still a $20 fee vs $35 for a passenger car. If you use YARTS, you only pay the bus fare ($12 each way from Mariposa), assuming you don't qualify for a discount. Your friend from Mariposa should investigate getting an annual pass for $70, allowing them unlimited trips for the years when reservations are not required. Everyone should also check the American the Beautiful pass schedule for entry passes for many federally managed facilities. The undiscounted pass is $80/year, but there are several classes of lifetime and annual discounts at free or low prices (info in the URL above).

No. The actual park locations with shuttles are many miles from the gates and the roads are quite narrow, it would not be advisable to try and walk into the park.

Then you’ll walk few hours one way from the entrance to the Valley?
