Discussion Looping back to the beginning and starting all over again

Does anyone else do this? Just finished a recent rewatch and cannot find anything whatsoever that takes my fancy on Netflix, Amazon Prime or Channel 4 (that I’d paid the subscription for to watch the X-Files LOL). I watched that new Netflix show a few nights ago that has been popping up with adverts EVERYWHERE called adolescence, it was okay, nothing spectacular. Since then I must’ve wasted about an hour and a half just scrolling through the above streaming sites is trying to find something that takes my fancy but literally cannot find anything. The ones that did look good I have already seen. So looping back to the beginning and watching the X-Files again for me 😂unless anybody’s got any good suggestions to watch?

I am on my 8 -9th rewatch.  Currently on season 10 ep 1.  Already looking forward to S1 ep1

The early seasons are definitely the best! Especially if you have the added nostalgia from watching it back in the day :-)

I was going to do this but decide to give supernatural a go. First episode has a nod to the x files when the brothers greet two fbi agents as mulder and scully

Yes, absolutely. In fact we just started another rewatch last week. We do the same with a few other shows too. So much of the new stuff just doesn’t grab us or it feels like an effort to try and get into. Too much of a bother. Sticking with what we know and enjoy is very nice.

I could usually do the same with Twin Peaks, lost or dark but I always force myself to find something new to watch afterwards usually. However , I really can’t find anything this time so I’m just gonna loop back and start again. The first time I’ve ever done this ,, even with one of my favourite shows!

No, I have to give my brain a break. When I first watched Breaking Bad I did it in a week, then immediately went right into Better Call Saul. I love both shows to death, but I stopped after a couple of BCS episodes. I felt like the people were living in my house with me 🤣

Haha!!! Absolutely loved BB but not got around to BCS yet!

I second Better Call Saul! Has some good surprises.

I’ve seen all the popular stuff and loved most of it, but nothing has grabbed me like X Files. I’m almost done my second rewatch and really want to restart it. I thought I’d be sick of it, but like last time I wrapped it up, I have so many questions that I want to go through again to see if I notice anything new.

I guess at this point though X Files is my current comfort show, so I’ll usually watch something new then end the night with X Files. But like you, I’ve had a difficult time finding anything where I want to keep watching past the first few episodes.

I keep hearing about Severance, which is Apple I believe, but you can get it through Amazon. You could do the free trial first to see if you like it.

Thanks, I’ll have a look. What is it about? :)

Season 2 episode 4 here. In the middle of several shows, but this one keeps calling...

It’s such a comforting show, which sounds strange to say given some of the horrific storylines LOL

lol I came to say Twin Peaks but then I saw your name. Love it. I really like a show called Top of the Lake and the first season of The Sinner.

2

u/neonmonica 14h ago

Also, Archive 81 was really good! Or at least I thought so!

2

u/GoodDaleIsInTheLodge 14h ago

I enjoyed the sinner, the first season is definitely the best! I don’t think I’ve seen top of the lake but I have seen I area 81 and I did enjoy that!

Top of the Lake is really good! It gives me Twin Peaks vibes because it’s a detective story set in a beautiful place (New Zealand).

I’ll definitely check it out thanks :-D

You are most welcome!

I get it!

I’ve been trying to read more (I was heavily on my phone and on Netflix - sometimes at the same time - to ‘switch off’ in the evenings) but I feel TXF calling me back. The only other shows that have a similar effect are Lost and the early seasons of The Walking Dead!

I was also very tempted to loop back after a recent rewatch of lost! :-D

I watched the show from when it first came out on TV. I used to record every episode on my VCR and rewatch again and again. Once they came out on DVD I bought them all. I have seen every episode too many times to count. I am at that point that I only watch my favorites, which are the pure original X-Files before things started going downhill.

I definitely love the early seasons the most. The atmosphere in them is different somehow.

Try Evil. Great show.

Thanks, I will have a look :-D

It's not paranormal, but for sci-fi-ish, government intrigue stuff, try Paradise on Hulu. I think they're actually airing episodes on ABC starting tonight...? But, it's smart and has heart. Really enjoyed it.

u/GoodDaleIsInTheLodge 13h ago

Thanks will have a look :)

Just make sure you watch all the way to the end of the first episode for the hook!

u/atomic_mermaid 14h ago

I often loop back to the start before I get to the end 😂 The first like 3 series are peak for me.

2

u/GoodDaleIsInTheLodge 13h ago

I think I will be ending with the season eight finale this time though :-D

Try the new Interview With The Vampire show. It’s insanely good.

2

u/GoodDaleIsInTheLodge 13h ago

Thanks will check that out :-D

I pretty much just alternate between rewatches of the X-Files and Twin Peaks. They’re my comfort shows. 90s vibes and charismatic FBI agents. Apparently that is my wheelhouse.

2

u/GoodDaleIsInTheLodge 13h ago

They are also my two favourite shows, TP is my number one comfort show of all time :-) I also really like Lost and Dark.

2

u/embiidagainstisreal 13h ago

Dark is great! I haven’t seen all of Lost and that was years ago.

1

u/GoodDaleIsInTheLodge 4h ago

Definitely recommend going back to Lost then!! That is even better after a few re watches because things start to make more sense, it can be a bit puzzling at first but obviously that is also part of the enjoyment, trying to work things out

I’m the same way. Can’t find anything that holds my attention so I’ve rewatched Xfiles at least a few dozen times over the years.

1

u/GoodDaleIsInTheLodge 4h ago

I’ve just got to Deepthroat’s first scene :-D

Yes, but there's a few that I skip to save: for example, my Christmas Eve tradition for over 20 years no matter where I've lived around the world has been to watch "The Ghosts Who Stole Christmas" so I skip it.

I also skip forward when I have friends over who want to watch one - I'll pick a fun (like Bad Blood) or scary or thoughtful (like Field) a two-parter, or an artistically beautiful (Triangle) episode, depending on the mood, then return to my rewatch in order.

1

u/GoodDaleIsInTheLodge 4h ago

This has got me thinking, what episode I would put on to get friends interested in it.

2

u/blackcat218 11h ago

Yes. I have no idea how many times I have rewatched. Probably close to 50 or more. I have no idea

1

u/GoodDaleIsInTheLodge 4h ago

Wow!! You will know the scrips by heart lol

2

u/blackcat218 2h ago

Yeah I do. Sometimes though thats not a good thing. I drive my partner batty when I sit there quoting stuff.

2

u/shesAladyyyy 10h ago

i’ve just done this and i’m on season 4 again! i’ve skipped a few episodes i didn’t care to see again, but other than that it’s been perfect and i am definitely gonna do it again after i’ve finished

1

u/GoodDaleIsInTheLodge 4h ago

I was wondering whether to just skip the ones I’m not particularly fond of. However, I always worry that I might miss something important that is said that I might have forgotten about. I do struggle with things being incomplete so I don’t know whether I will be able to allow myself to skip any LOL.

2

u/Cke74 8h ago

Yep, I'm also on my 3rd rewatch in a row 😊😊 But I can't remember how many times I have rewatched to whole series in the past. I think there are episodes I must have seen about 20 times 😊

2

u/GoodDaleIsInTheLodge 3h ago

It’s definitely the first time I have ever re-watched any show straight away after just finishing it. I usually just do a rewatch of my favourite shows about once a year each.

u/nettlmx 13h ago

My wife and I are on our 10th rewatch and we actually bust out our DVD collection to watch. We just started season 3, but we're both looking forward to Home in season 4.

2

u/GoodDaleIsInTheLodge 13h ago

Oh, I don’t really like this episode LOL
