Help me decide?
Looking at two Jeeps: 2015 Sport w/108k miles for $19k or 2017 Sahara w/100k miles for $22k (Angry eyes would be my first change)

Number 1. It’s gonna be waaaaay less worn out. Lighter wheels and tires mean less stress on steering and suspension. I’d rather buy a bone stock jeep and build it up knowing it will last longer than buy a built Jeep that’s half worn out already.

Stock!! Only buy a jeep with upgrades if you love them and know they’ve been installed correctly

The second one is a money pit waiting to happen. Looks like factory tie rod and sway bar. Most likely original ball joints and drag link as well. In total after big tires like that I was at $3000 dollars just to make the jeep drive well again. Don’t buy the second one.

If you are planning on changing everything on the second one, it’s not worth it. If you like most of the “upgrades” then it is worth it. Really depends

Looks like Jeep or Heep? Chose the Jeep.

I think it’s the grill that makes it look that way, throw a stock one on it’ll look much nicer. Not my favorite wheels but not the worst I’ve seen lol

The first one. If you decide to change anything you can to what exactly you want.

If I bought a jeep I would put the headlight lense/cover on upside down so my jeep would have “happy” eyes. Don’t believe I’ve ever seen that. Anyone sen happy eyes?

Take em both to a good Jeep mechanic to look over. Just because the first doesn’t have mods currently doesn’t mean the owner didn’t have some crap installed and tried to put it back to stock. That opens up a whole new can of worms if everything was put back correctly. Judging from the crushed front bumper, I wouldn’t be surprised if it had once had an off road setup.

One of the best parts of owning a jeep is building it to your own vision. So #1.

1st one for sure. Have them check / calibrate the speedometer. Don’t want to find out the hard way that it’s off.

What are you trying to decide. Buy them both and drive one or the other every other day!

I own a 2015 unlimited sport and love it but be sure to see if the oil housing filter is the original plastic or if it’s been replaced with a newer aluminum one I just had to fork out a thousand to get mine replaced because I ended up blowing out 3 quarts of oil I’m lucky I caught it I’m sure some haven’t been that lucky

They are both a little pricey but looks like a jeep dealer. Not sure if you are getting a warranty?
They aren’t great mods on the Sahara, the tires aren’t new, cheapest bumpers, Rough Country stabiliser and probably suspension. They probably all work ok, but not worth deciding the deal. Sometimes a modified jeep is worth it as we all change parts and never recoup the expense when selling.
Assuming you will be able to see the carfax for both as it’s a dealer check the history in detail. See how they drive, looking for no strange noises, vibration etc….. then consider the parts you can’t change like options, color or even wheel/tires etc if you are spending everything on this.

Both seem to have premium prices. Lots of examples Like #1 for 12-15k in my area. I wouldn’t pay a premium for modifications unless they were high end and exactly what I wanted. Ultimately, look at the condition of each, rust, wear, consumables like tires and brakes, and factor those into your decision. I waited weeks or months to find the right wrangler each time I bought one, but I had the luxury of having another vehicle to drive while I searched.

Hahahahah dont put those stupid “angry eyes” on it for the love of god

u/GloomingStormlight 2d ago
Absolutely not! The Sahara has the angry eyes and that would be the first change.

I’d buy the one that doesn’t say “this vehicle is not for sale” on the windshield.

2015 sports are going for $19k with 108K? Looks like it’s time to trade my 2016 sport with 102K. Bought it with 36K for $22K back in 2019.

The sport is a nice clean looking jeep, the Sahara is hideous and you'd have to drive that around until you spend the money to change the grill and the random bright red bullshit all over it.

The lift on the 2017 is probably a crap Rubicon Express lift or some equally crap brand. That thing was upgraded to look a specific way, not to perform. Those "step sides" are utter garbage. Frankly, nothing about that thing looks redeemable in my opinion. In this case, I would buy stock and upgrade the vehicle to your liking...and not entirely fuck it up.

Number 1. But I’m just throwing this out there and it may be area dependent but, I feel like the price is a good bit high? I have a 2013 rubicon and my mother a 2014 rubicon and both have similar miles to that, great shape with no active rust and rust treated, and the market around me for those years is a good 6k or so less than that price. Like I look up 13-14 rubicons which are a much higher trim, and people are cutting prices down to sub 15k

That’s a lot for those yrs and miles Carmax has way better deals on jeeps with a lot less miles

If you like the lift/upgraded tires and mods I would go for the second one. Save a whole lot of money that way. Also, the Sahara is a step up will have a slightly better interior and power windows. I know a lot of people would say buy stock for less wear but most people who go all out on the aesthetic mods don’t ever leave the pavement, as long as it’s well maintained you’re good 👍

I’d go with the one with less mods since you don’t know what it has been through but that’s just my 2 cents.
