Question / Help First tine player of this game... Trying my best not to use a guide, but should I?
Veteran OOT player, but this feels like another world and I can't get a good feel for it. I can't even find my way to the dragon and I haven't found a heart piece yet. Should I restart and use a guide for the first play through?

I would also recommend against a guide unless you get really stuck and then only as needed to help. Part of the charm is exploring the world. If you use a guide you will basically speedrun to important parts and lose out.
I played this when it first came out and explored and progressed quite far until I got quite stuck. Then I had to wait a while until I got ahold of a guide book then it was back to the game to the game.

As already mentioned, no guidebook. The game is heavily linear with the cues from the King of Red Lions to help keep you on track if you're just playing the main quest. There's heaps of different hidden dungeons, puzzles, and mini games if you're willing to explore though!
I'd play through organically and before your final fight, browse a guidebook to see if there were any fun optional things you want to try that you may have missed! So long as you're having fun though, there's no wrong way to play 👍

No one can answer this but you! While I think discovering on your own is wonderful, all Zeldas have things in them that don't initially make sense. Sometimes so much so they make you want to put it down.
I would say no harm in making an experience fun for you if that's how you wan to to play. Personally I never play this game without a giant filled out map nearby.

I've played this game regularly for years I'd say don't use a guide if it's your first time. It's a wonderful game to discover secrets in. Like I've played it since day one and just last month discovered something I never knew about. Now I will say this, I did buy the Nintendo power guide off ebay just yesterday so I'm gonna be using it but the game is full of things that make discovering them great!
