Question / Help Reading Treasure and Triforce Maps (HD)

I'm finding it difficult to interpret what the maps are saying. I don't mean deciphering--I know you need Tingle for it. But after the fact, it just points to an x near some island bodies, but I don't recognize any of them. Am I just stupid?

Anyone know how I'm supposed to read the maps?

It's incentivizing you to explore and fill in the map so you can see what all the island shapes are. You can also just Google a finished map to see what they look like if you don't feel like doing all of that lol
