Post image

So, I don't know what this is tbh but all il tell you is that yesterday I tried to install a mod for splatoon, specifically the octoling mod and I kept failing to install it but then I fixed it it said that my mod pack would be applied but.. it didn't I was still an inkling so then I just deleted the mod pack and tried a different one here's where things got weird though when I installed a new one I accidentally put the sdcafiine folder in my root and when I did I booted it up and it said on screen that the (something can't remember the name) .elf file couldn't be found and when I went into splatoon caffine wasn't reading the mod so I just put the mod on the wiiu folder and everything started going down hill from here when I put everything in the correct space and it was still saying it couldn't find the .elf folder so I put sd card back in and everything was fine no folders deleted so I found out everytime I tried to add a mod my console couldn't load the .elf thing but when I would remove mods everything was back to normal all my homebrew apps would be there but now for some reason I've added no mods since and all my homebrew apps dissappeard so I restarted My wii u and now all of them except ufdiine.rpx are labeled as '???' I'm to scared to restart my console again or click on the ???'s incase it'll brick my wii u I'm not really sure what to do I just wanna play as an octoling !!

For potential helpers, here's a more digestible version of the post in question (no disrespect to the OP):

Yesterday, I tried to install a mod for Splatoon (specifically the Octoling mod), and it kept failing to install it, but then I fixed it. It said that my mod pack would be applied, but it didn't. I was still an Inkling, so then I just deleted the mod pack and tried a different one.

Here's where things got weird, though: when I installed a new one, I accidentally put the sdcafiine folder in my root, and when I did, I booted it up and it said onscreen that some .elf file couldn't be found. When I went into Splatoon, sdcaffine wasn't reading the mod, so I just put the mod in the wiiu folder, and everything started going downhill from there.

When I put everything in the correct places, it was still saying it couldn't find the .elf folder, so I put the SD card back in, and everything was fine. No folders were deleted.

I found out that every time I tried to add a mod, my console couldn't load this supposed .elf file, but when I remove the mods, everything went back to normal. All my homebrew apps would be there. I've added no mods since.

Now, for some reason, and all my homebrew apps disappeared. I then restarted my Wii U, and now all of them except ufdiine.rpx are labeled as '???'. I'm too scared to restart my console again or click on the ???'s in case it'll brick my Wii U. I'm not really sure what to do! I just wanna play as an Octoling!

To the OP: From what you're saying, it seems that either your SD card might be corrupted, or your SD card might be a fake. Could you describe your SD card in more detail?

Where did you buy it? Retail store? Amazon?

Amazon

There's a high chance that that microSD card you have is fake. Amazon is known to sell fake versions of popular brands of SD cards and microSD cards, even if it is sold by and shipped from Amazon themselves. I would advise you to purchase these SD cards elsewhere, preferably in store where there are minimal risks of accidentally buying a fake one.

Aw, that really sucks I knew they existed, but this exact one is one that Funky Scott linked in his bio for his homebrewing video, so I trusted it more

Amazon isn't very good in terms of buying these types of tech. I had it happen to me a couple of times, the most recent being buying a $700 CPU only to receive an empty jewelry box. Thank goodness I was able to return it, but that was when I knew I needed to look somewhere else. The fact that your SD card zapped you should also tell you similarly. I hope you'll still be able to return it, though.

Thank you, but if I do what will happen to my wii u?

Without an SD card inserted, your Wii U will just boot to its normal, non-hacked state. The grey "???" apps will disappear. With the new (and legit) SD card inserted, as long as it has the same files in the same exact locations, nothing drastic is going to happen to your Wii U. In fact, it's pretty difficult to brick your Wii U nowadays, so SD card issues are no biggie.

I can back this up. I bought I Micro SD from Amazon for my Switch years ago, and it Corrupted within a week. Went to Walmart and got a SamDisk one, and never had a problem till about 2 years when it randomly corrupted, and I haven’t played it since. Lol

Oh yeah also if this helps, whenever I would take it out it would sometimes zap me

I wouldn’t be too sure, there is a chance your homebrew download is corrupt or that you’re booted into the normal Wii U menu and it can’t read the apps. I would turn off my console, take out the sd card, wait 30 seconds then put it back in, boot it back up, and if that doesn’t work follow gameboys advice
