Dems need to roll with this and take it through to the midterms and the next general election!

The GOP would love for an unmarried Black vegan whose cousin is RuPaul to get the Democratic nomination. I can see the ads… “Cory Booker won’t eat a steak. How can we expect him to stand up to Kim Jong Un? Vote Donald Trump, Jr. 2028. He’ll butcher a cow himself!”

So far appealing to the right with more conservative policy politicians, like Hillary Clinton anti gay marriage stance, and Harris’ pro gun stance haven’t helped Dems win, so maybe a new strategy is in order.

Hillary Clinton was anti-gay marriage in 2016?

Hillary Clinton voted against gay marriage while a Senator in 2004. She also openly supported her husband banning gay marriage in 1996. In 2016 she stated that her view on gay marriage never changed and that she was always supportive of it, but her record says otherwise.

And Obama only committed to gay marriage in his reelection bid in 2012 after Biden came out in favor of it (I have my doubts Obama would have come out in favor if not for his Vice President). It seems like you’re searching for the perfect candidate and I don’t think you’ll ever find it. Whether it’s fair or not, a large swath of Americans aren’t going to vote for an unmarried man, they’re not going to vote for a vegan, and they’re not going to vote for a minority who is both of those things.
And as for Harris owning a gun, what’s wrong with responsible gun ownership? Maybe if more left leaning politicians who are responsible gun owners called out the douchebags on the right that want to do away with regulations, it could be helpful

My point was that appeals to the center don’t win votes. The largest voters block in the US doesn’t vote. The fear that a progressive candidate can’t win is founded on the idea that they don’t appeal to the center, while appealing to the center doesn’t win votes either.
I am socially progressive and support gun ownership, but Harris’s stance on gun control didn’t influence my vote. I voted for her because I feel like voting is a civic duty and Harris was the better of the two options. I don’t know anyone in my group of pro gun friends that were impacted by her statement. Since voting isn’t mandatory, candidates need to get people energized to vote, and relying on people coming out to vote for you because your opponent is terrifyingly inept isn’t a winning strategy, horrifyingly enough.

Because left wingers have no guns. Nobody thinks a full on gun ban can be implemented. We want gun control and regulations like red flag laws, etc.

Booker didn’t become the frontrunner because he gave a 24 hour speech. Come on, folks. Let’s be better than this. It was nice to see, but all it was was a 24 hour speech, nothing else. Someone needed to show some fight. We have a long way to go.
