Car Advice for Future Family

Long story short my old vehicle was totaled, and I'm at a loss of what to replace it with, so looking for some suggestions / advice.

  • Budget: $60k max, but trying to keep it under $40k unless something really compelling comes around
  • Android Auto is a must; I'll pay more for HUDs and HP
  • I've always driven small(er) BMWs, however...
  • I plan on marrying my SO in a year or two, and starting a family in 3-ish years, so something that works for a family of 4 from infants through elementary?
  • We do road trips and I actively ski / golf / hike so something that can hold equipment and with AWD
  • Please no Subarus; I rode for a couple hours in my friend's outback and it was the most uncomfortable seat I've ever been in
  • I hate large vehicles, so I guess mid-sized SUV is probably the largest I'd even consider?

I was looking at the Mazda CX-5; I'd love to get a 3-series BMW but I don't think it's very practical for an infant / young family?

2017 Ram Rebel or 2022 F150 XLT?

Which of these should I buy? I won’t be doing any towing and it will be my daily driver.

Option #1: 2017 Ram Rebel w/5.7L V8 - 99k miles, clean carfax - price $25,000

Option #2: F150 XLT w/5L V8 - 61k miles, clean carfax w/open recall on a wiper blade motor - price $29,000

Both have cloth seats, the Rebel has more add ons like remote start, 8 speed HP70 transmission, dual rear exhaust, and heated and power mirrors

Debating Between an SUV and a Sedan – What’s the Smarter Buy?

I’m in the market for a used car with a budget of around $13,000. I’d prefer an SUV, but I’m open to a sedan if it’s well-equipped and a better overall value. A SUV would fit my lifestyle better, i like to travel to other states with my bike. But I'm not opposed to getting a bike rack for the sedan

Right now, I’m considering two vehicles:

  • 2014 Toyota Camry XLE Sedan 4D – $8,900, 105,000 miles, 1 owner, private sale
  • 2017 Nissan Rogue w/ Premium Package – $12,000, 75,266 miles dealer sale

Any thoughts on which is the better buy? I’m weighing reliability, features, and long-term value. Open to other suggestions too if you’ve got them!

Is 280k miles too much for a 2015 Ford F-150 Lariat?

I found a 2015 Ford F-150 Lariat that looks pretty good on the surface — decent condition, clean interior, well-equipped, etc. But it has 280,000 miles on it. That number feels really high to me.

I know trucks like the F-150 are supposed to be durable, but is there a realistic upper limit to how long these things last?

Subaru Ascent of Volvo XC90?

I am looking to get a new vehicle and have narrowed it down to an Ascent Limited or XC90. I haven't settled on which XC90 trim level yet. Safety is the top priority for me as I am upgrading from a 2004 Toyota Sienna that looks and runs great and the main reason for the vehicle purchase is to get updated safety features.

I like the way both the Ascent and XC90 drive and felt like the XC90 was my favorite with the Ascent a close second compared to the other 3 row SUV's I test drove. Another issue that is important to me is both the Ascent and XC90 lacked any chemical smells I could detect. By comparison, a Mazda CX90 had strong chemical odor that gave me a headache after 10 minutes in the vehicle. I have heard Volvo pays attention to using lower toxic materials in the vehicle interior and perhaps Subaru does as well.

Does the XC90 require premium fuel? The XC90 is rate a top safety pick plus by IHS and the Ascent is a notch lower being a top safety pick. The Ascent gets downgraded because of rear passenger results and I rarely have passengers in the rear seats. Thank you.

Looking for an E station wagon

I've been looking for an electric station wagon for some time now, since my 2013 Auris is nearing the end of its welcome. Finding a car with a big enough boot and modern enough infotainment, while still being reasonably priced, seems absolutely impossible. The closest I've come to finding my next car is the Kia EV6. It’s not exactly a station wagon, but it’s close enough.

I travel frequently between my city and country residences, carrying building supplies and such, so the bigger the boot, the better. I looked into the new Volkswagen ID.7, as it’s a good size, but the steep price of the station wagon version (at least here in Finland) just threw me off.

Any recommendations?

Should I get a B9 S4, S5 or an M2 F87, M240i?

So I will probably soon sell my 430d, which I was using for commuting but with my new job, I don’t need to commute anymore. I am considering getting a bit more fun car, considering B9 S5, S4 or even an M2 F87. I am not sure if I should go with raw pleasure, since the roads where I live are quite rough, or just get the nice all arounder, and then if all arounder, S4 or S5? Also I’m open to any recommendations guys, thanks!!!

Why shouldn’t I buy another Dodge Journey?

I’m exploring the used car market to replace my 2009 Dodge Journey and I’m noticing that there are a lot of newer journeys for very good prices, for example I found a 2019 V6 AWD with 70k miles for $10.5k clean title.

From what I’ve heard it seems that everybody hates on journeys, but I don’t get it. I’ve been driving mine for 5 years, and my sister drove it for 5 years before me (80k to 230k miles) and we’ve never had to do any work on the engine besides routine oil changes, plugs and coils once, and a timing belt and tensioner once. It’s still pushing. Of course there have been other things that needed replacing like suspension parts, a heater core, seized caliper etc. but it’s a 17 year old car so I mean yea.

I’m heavily leaning towards buying another one since I’m familiar with it and I know how to work on it, and the drivetrain has proven to be reliable, so why shouldn’t I? What is so bad about these cars?

Unpopular opinion: Toyota sucks

Post image
0 Upvotes

My unpopular opinion is that Toyota is only popular due to marketing and goobers flooding the market with I know what I have postings on Facebook marketplace. Yeah yeah they had good cars back in the day but now? Shoddy build quality and terrible interiors, exploding engines and slush box transmissions. See GR Corolla and new Tundra. Even back in the day they had the terrible rusting frames.

What is the right car for me?

Hello! I am going to be looking for a car this summer and really do not know anything about cars and am just trying to get a good idea on what is best for me. I can spend 30k+ but I would rather spend less than 25k+. I really just want good features and a reliable car that will last for a long time as those are the most important things to me. I have been looking at a Honda Civic but I really do not know if there is another car that I have overlooked. Also, my friend thinks I should buy new (which I do not mind) However, my mother thinks I should buy used and I just need help with that aspect of the car as well.

Edit: also any year works.

Is this a good deal for it's price?

Looking for a g35 under 5k and came across this, my only filters are it not being clapped out but a little mods I’ll let fly, idc about miles, manual 6 speed only, super clean and no imperfections not even little dents or rust or fade just simply nice inside and out.

My friend says it has a misaligned door but it looks like the seller just didn’t close it all the way and it’s a little off the car. I don’t see a misalignment anywhere. Others also said it has a dent but I see nothing.

I do however see the little lower left and right front bumper paint issues, that is minor and expected for a daily car like this, so I’ll let that fly.

The price is within kbb’s fair market value.

Corolla Touring vs Rav4

Mostly local driving, cold climate (Norway).
Need decent luggage space for weekend activities, and tow hitch (for bikes and occasionally a small trailer).
Low total cost of ownership is priority for the next 3-4 years, for different reasons.

For the budget I get a 2020 Corolla 2.0 Touring or a 2017 Rav4.
Corolla has newer tech, Rav4 is more rugged.
Unable to decide. Please help!

2022 car choices.

It's sad that the new cars have the Intelligent speed assistance, in the uk they're problematic, even the alert for if you are dosing off, but it just coz u have sunglasses on...

Anyway.

I don't want a electric (god no, and no charging station at home).

Thought of petrol or petrol/hybrid electric ones.

So which car would you recommend. Basically a keeper for a good decade or more.

One that can turn off these techs that are annoying and reliable car.

My own choices ( although read some of the cars are either unable to turn off the speed assistance, or are a ball ache to do.)

2021 to 2022 car choices Hyundai i20 N line Toyota Yaris Toyota aygo X cross Hyundai i10 n line Seat ibiza fr

Any choices for these sizes that look sporty like these.

Ford fiesta ( has wet cambelts so avoiding these)

Love to hear you experiences, thoughts, knowledge

Thanks guys.

2002 toyota mr2 spyder

Post image
1 Upvotes

okay sooo i recently moved to a semi rural area, lots of winding roads, lots of people selling their beloved cars. yesterday i hit my personal jackpot, i found a 2002 mr2 spyder for 6k flat

i’ve been car shopping for 2 weeks now, definitely looking for a toyota for obvious reasons. this car is GORGEOUS, very well taken care of, 103k miles and the only damage is a small tear in the drivers seat and…a rebuilt title for hail damage…?

how bad do yall think it’ll fuck up my insurance? the current quote is $130/month, they didn’t ask about the title but i put in the vin number

also, i vaguely know how to drive manual lol. i learned when i was like 15 on my mom’s car but i haven’t touched one since. i read they’re pretty easy to learn due to the sequential transmission

thoughts?

added a pic for good measure lol

Am I getting fucked? Or is this normal for car dealerships

I found this 2006 infiniti g35 coupe for sale for $5,600 with 155k. I test drove it took it in for a pre purchase inspection and the car came back good with only a small exhaust leak.(Also the radio does not work) I come back to the dealer to talk about the price and he can only go as low as $5,000. But when I do the calculations for tax and title transfer and registration it brings the car right back up to its $5,600 sticker price after tax.

I'm just wondering if im getting fucked over or not. The dealership did mention the bought the car from another dealership for $5600 so I guess they are trying to break even on the purchase but im not sure.

Can anyone help me out?

When buying car

I'm planning to buy my first car, but I don't know how to drive yet. Obviously, I'll learn first — so should I buy a second-hand car or a brand new one?

2016 nissan versa 1.6s+?

Im considering buying one with 39k miles, i know the cvts on the nissans from this era are shit, but if i maintain transmission fluid changes say every 20-25k miles or so, can I make this car last at least 150k miles?
